“Nice hotel, beware the noise”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 6, 2011

The South Gap is a very nice hotel in St Lawrence Gap, the lively section of South Barbados. The rooms are clean and functional, staff are really helpful, the pool is a fairly decent sizeand while I didn't use it loads, the bar/restaurant also seemed very good (and decent value). My only tip if you're planning a stay would be to ask for a room with a door facing the sea as opposed to the road. All the rooms face out on to the sea I think, but some have doors on the road side. I ended up in one on my first night, there was karaoke going on in the pub across the road, and I actually felt like I was trying to sleep in a karaoke lounge it was so loud. The next day I asked the lady on front desk whether there was karaoke every night, and without hesitation she upgraded me at no extra charge to a room with a door facing the sea, from which I couldn't hear anything and slept fine for the rest of my stay. So I can't fault the hotel staff for their care and attentiveness. But there seemed to be something (karaoke or a gig) going on most nights in St Lawrence Gap, and I can't imagine anyone would be able to sleep in one of the rooms with a door facing the road, unless they were planning on being out late every night and the noise having died down by the time they went to bed.

Room Tip: In the middle of the bars/restaurants in St L Gap

We stayed at The South Gap Hotel for about 13 nights with our friends and want to come back for sure.
There is of course a lot too choose from of all the hotels at Christ Church...
but the atmosphere was very relaxed. and i liked that the staff always had a smile,
they where very professional without loosing their charming touch.
the rooms are spacious and the balcony is very nice with a wonderful seaview..
There are many places to sit outside on hotel area with your own drink etc ..
beautiful and very clean pool, was cleaned every day...
There are a lot of restaurants and bars close by with some sound but it didnt disturb us
you really get sleepy after a day in the sun, an excellent dinner toghether with wine ...
and the sound of the waves make you sleepy .. the beds are super
for the first time my back functioned ..
but of course this is individual. .. one can always find faults if you look for it ..
loved the kitchen with all accessories you needed and everything was very clean
The location of the hotel is perfect if you want to step right into nightlife and many very
good restaurants within walking distance
Ship Inn and Harlequin became our favorites...
and the one above all Champers , taxi short distance away
At daytime we spent mostly at Dover beach...
just perfect with a lot of activities for eveyone
since we and our friends are in the fifties and dont want to do extreme sport
we chose to snorkel at shipwrecks and with turtles .

" CLIFF SHARKER " see facebook, is at Dover beach and offers various activities
he picks you up at Dover beach and off we went ...
what i liked is that we where a small group
and because of boat size he has access to special turles place
it makes it more personal and finally i was able to snorkel due their patience
what a world beneath in the water ... you just want to stay there forever
Recommend to contact him if you want to have a trip on the sea.not expencive, fanatastic

additional , there is so much to see and do on the Island, ask the hotel, they will assist you

I just fell in love with Barbados and its people

Alltogether ... Yupp.. we will be back for sure and have another visit to the same turtles and South Gap Hotel

The people worhing there were outstanding, friendly and helpful, especially Rose and Annalee on the front desk. Andy the bartender eas also great.

Room Tip: stay on bottom floors, less noisey. All rooms vi.

The staff at The South Gap Hotel go above and beyond the call of duty. They were friendly, helpful and made you feel special.
The location was great. Lots of wonderful restaurants within walking distance. The restaurant at the hotel also serves delicious food. The fettuccine alfredo with grilled chicken was so great, that my sister and ordered it twice, during our 8 day stay.
Andy, the bartender was wonderful and made our Margaritas to perfection.
Gael who works with Andy at the hotel restaurant helped us with a problem the night we arrived. we had to get distilled water for her CPAP machine. Gael made several calls to various stores and found that a garage stocked it. This is one example of how the staff went out of their way to accommodate their guests.

The room was comfortable and the toaster and coffee pot were so clean that they looked new. I had read reviews about no dish soap, so I brought some with me. Turns out I could have bought it at a convenience store, just a 2 minute walk from the hotel.
Every morning my sister and I would drink our morning coffee on the balcony, overlokking the pool and Caribbean.

It was a grand vacation and we will return to the South Gap Hotel.

The hotel is located around bars and restaurants so it is very noisy at night and may not appeal to families or those looking for a quiet sleep. The staff is friendly especially Rose who provided great tips. We were offered a room in another part of the hotel when the noise became a problem.

All the rooms had a great view of the ocean but the bed blankets were not clean. Dishes are provided, but you are not provided with soap or a rag to clean them. I don't know if the dishes get cleaned between guests or not. The hot water worked well.

We returned to Barbados for our second holiday in 6 months and stayed at South Gap where my girlfriend had stayed a number of years ago.We found the hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. The Hotel bar was excellent and the food served as well as the cocktails were very good with generous measures.[hic].The room size was good and wonderful sea views from the balcony
It was very easy to access the beach from either of the adjoining hotels. The hotel's pool is excellent and we had it too ourselves for most of the time when we were in it.Although the hotel is on the Gap we never had a problem of excessive noise etc and were happy to be in a hotel tat was very good to local bars and restaurants.
We'll back for more at the end of the year.

Our first and second year at South Gap Hotel we stayed for 4 weeks. This past visit we extended to 5 weeks and next year we have already booked for 6 weeks.

The incredibly friendly staff, intimate size, and convenient location keeps us coming back. At the front desk, Rose, Anna-lee & Monique take care of our every need. The regular rum punch parties help you get acquainted with other guest as well as the staff.
And, behind the scene is the Manager Cecile and Donna keeping it all running smoothly.
The cleaning and maintenance do a superb job of keeping an older hotel clean & neat.
The on site restaurant Salvios is as good as it gets. Andy & Gail and their staff go out of their way to make your meal memorable. If it's not on the menu, give Andy a heads up and he'll make it for you.
All of this keeps us coming back to our "home away from home"
