We stayed in room 404 from May 15 to May 20. The "sit back and relax in the lobby while we check you in" check-in was possibly the best check-in experiences I've ever had. The one bedroom ocean view room was very spacious and absolutely beautiful W/D, convection oven with microwave capabilities, fridge with ice maker and purified water dispenser, nice sized bathroom with a huge shower with a rainfall shower head, ridiculously strong central air conditioning and even stronger water pressure.
The beach is very nice. >75% of the beach is blockaded from the water by huge rocks which I assume is to prevent erosion. Those who preferred to swim went to the beach in front of the villas/condos next door. On the weekends, you tended to be inundated with aloe and tour vendors while trying to relax on the beach,
To find solitude, I went to the beautiful rooftop. There's a small pool and lounge chairs everywhere. I assume that during the wintertime or spring break, this would be the place to be. Lucky for me, though, it was little used during my stay. I also specifically set my alarm everyday to watch the sunset from the roof. It was beautiful each time.
The staff here made me feel like a celebrity. Every little thing I asked about or called for, they went WAY over the top with their generosity. I noticed that at certain times, staff would not board an elevator with guests and they would wait for the next elevator (perhaps to prevent a delay in having guests reach their destination floor?). Even when I witnessed other guests being unreasonable with their requests (my fellow Americans, unfortunately), the staff maintained their professionalism and did not stop until the guests were pleased.
I have seen other reviews complaining that there is a limited TV channel selection and there is no HDTV. While true, I'll just say that I wasn't in Barbados to watch TV. I barely watched any.
There is free wifi. I brought my laptop and every morning I tried to stream my favorite morning show to catch a half hour or so. There was a lot of buffering. While I did not do a speed test, I do understand that guests aren't in Barbados to stay in the room and stream movies through the hotel's wifi during peak hours. However, I was able to catch up on my baseball team by watching video highlights at 1AM while on the balcony without a problem. Yeah, that was nice.
The bathroom really could use an exhaust fan. If it did have one, it didn't work very well. I probably should've asked the front desk about it.
On Wednesday's, there is a manager's cocktail party. It usually happen on the rooftop but during our stay it was in the lobby and on the beach. THAT WAS AWESOME. They had live music and free appetizers and drinks.
In my previous experience with 4 & 5 star hotels, the gyms usually had dirty and rusty equipment and were located in a room the size of a closet. However, the Ocean Two gym had brand new clean equipment with two large full bathrooms with a shower. Very impressed with the gym.
Most guests tend to eat away from the hotel, but the breakfast buffet is a great bargain. The food is absolutely delicious. Make sure you bring the appetite and try everything. I think I had four or five plates. LOL
I really had no disappointment with this hotel. The disappointment begins when you walk off the hotel property, but that'll be explained in my review of St Lawrence Gap. In my opinion, this is the best hotel in the Caribbean I've ever stayed in.
