“Sofabed in PH3 (Room 703)”

We spent a week at Ocean Two in late March 2013 in a one bedroom ocean view room. The resort was nice, until near the end of our stay.

On the last couple of nights, our daughter wanted to sleep in the bedroom so I slept on the pullout sofa. After the first night I noticed a couple of itchy red bites on my arms, but I thought they were mosquito bites and thought nothing of them. The second night I had a couple of more bites but again thought they were mosquito bites. We saw a couple of mosquitos in the room and we had the balcony door opened from time to time. The last night before we left, I ended up getting a few dozen bites on my arms, neck, and a few in other spots. I had never had something like this happen before. We were busy getting packed and ready to leave and I did not do any research on whether this was mosquitos or something else. When I got home, the next morning I began looking into the bites and everything that we saw suggested these were bed bug bites (including seeing some examples of three or more bites in a line). After unfortunately leaving our bags in our house for the first night, we immediately moved them outside and then did what we could to ensure that while washing our clothes, etc., we did not bring any stow-away pests, if there were any in our luggage, into the house. We also ended up throwing out our luggage as we were too concerned about bringing them back into the house. We contacted management of Ocean Two to tell them that we believed there were bed bugs or something in the sofa bed. The Manager responded that day and said he would investigate and get back to us in two days. Six days later we had not received a response so we emailed the manager again. He said he would call the next day.

When the manager called back 7 days after our initial email, he spent some of his time talking about all of the steps they take to prevent outbreaks of bed bugs and also explaining how common it is for airplanes and airports to be infested with bed bugs. While not necessarily related to preventing outbreaks, I don't believe they changed the sheets on the pullout sofa once during the week we were there and I believe their brochure says they change every 3 days. I made it very clear to him that whatever bit me, did so in the room before we left Ocean Two.

We were a bit bothered by his reference to bed bugs on airplanes as it could not have had anything to do with this situation. Whatever bit me did so in the room before we left Barbados. We considered his response and got back to him a few days later.

We responded the following week and said that it was clearly difficult to reconcile the bites that occured on me with the hotel's apparent finding that there was nothing on or around the sofa bed, but in the end as we were not prepared to take a chance with our luggage, we had thrown it out and purchased new luggage. We provided receipts and asked for a small refund to reimburse for the cost of the new luggage. This amount was a bit less than the charge for one night.

We received a response from the Manager a few days later that really annoyed us. Over half of his written response was spent explaining the existence and spread of bed bugs on airlines and in airports. We found this to be offensive as by this point, the only reason for suggesting it appears to us to be to suggest that I must have been bitten on the airplane ride home and not in the room at Ocean Two. This annoyed us far beyond their refusal to provide any reimbursement. This type of response was not fair and has certainly soured our view of this otherwise wonderful resort and its management. We stayed in room PH3 (703).

At Ocean Two we take preventative measures and all necessary procedures to ensure that there are never any bed bugs in our suites. All rooms are checked thoroughly on a daily basis to ensure that the rooms, furnishings and all areas, visible or otherwise, are of the highest standards.

We carried out a thorough investigation of the suite in question and no bed bugs were discovered. Further to this, many guests have stayed in this suite prior to and after the dates provided and we have never received any complaints of this nature. At Ocean Two we appreciate the opportunity to remedy any issue whilst our guests are with us and we truly wish that you had informed us of your concerns whilst on property.

Although this trip did not exceed your expectations, we truly hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back to Ocean Two in the future!

Stayed at Ocean 2 10th April for 1 week and cannot fault this hotel. We had booked on bed and breakfast basis but were absolutely thrilled to be upgraded to a top floor penthouse suite (701a) as we were there to celebrate a special birthday.

From arriving at this hotel to leaving we were treated very well. The staff, especially the beach staff, were always polite, friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble.


We would definitely return to this hotel

Room Tip: We were in room 701a, top floor corner room with fantastic views over the beach.

Just an update of previous comments of branson 46
Reception moved us to a different room on a lower floor only a few hours after requesting a room change and also made sure we were happy and comfortable with it. As i said in earlier post the rooms are very good but the one we had on top floor was a bit noisy if you are a light sleeper. Thanks to the freindly staff ,they sorted it for us. They also gave us a nice bottle of wine and a meal as an apology for any incovenience. What amazing service.

We recently returned from a 2 week trip to Ocean 2 with our 2 children who are 5 and 2. We stayed in a one bed deluxe suite which was perfect, really well appointed and equipped with a fantastic view. All the staff at the hotel were very friendly and made a big fuss of the children, we were always greeted with great big smiles and nothing was too much trouble. The pool was perfect for little ones not being too deep or wide and my husband was a big fan of the swim up bar. There was no shortage of very large and comfortable sun beds, and the beach and pool attendants were vigilant about clearing unused sun beds and made sure everyone got a bed. They also organised regular games for the children on the beach which the all loved. We stayed on a B&B basis, breakfasts were good with a good range of options. Other meals in the restaurant were good if a little pricey, and the kitchen sometimes struggled to cope with the lunchtime rush but the laid back approach is one of the charms of Barbados.
The hotel is really well located and there is a great range of quality restaurants close by.
We had a fantastic trip and would highly recommend Oceans 2 for a holiday to remember.

Great hotel. Staff are welcoming and helpful. I wouldn't listen to bad reviews on this place if you have looked at the photos it is very obvious what is and isn't on offer. The pools are not massive but this is well advertised. The beach is clean and you are well looked after by the pool and beach staff.
Rooms were very clean, food was good; a little expensive but food on the island generally is. It isn't anything the hotel can help. Fresh fruit water provided by the bar every day is a must.

We have just returned from a 2 week holiday here and had a wonderful time! We had a 1 bed apartment which was spacious and very well equipped. The view was amazing, I didn't once tire of opening the curtains in the morning to the blue seas and sunshine! We had 2 children with us (4&8) and they loved it, there were quite a few families there as it was the Easter holidays so the pool was busy with children having lots of fun. Not everyone's cup of tea if you don't like kids but as the beach is a footstep away it is easy to get away! The sun loungers are huge and the beach staff are so friendly and helpful (Roggick, Errie and O'Neal were great!) Bodyboards, snorkels and masks etc are all available to use free of charge.
We walked to the Gap most nights for something to eat (loved Rush) children were well catered for which makes life easy and the locals are so friendly we felt at ease stopping in the local rum shacks for a drink and a chat. The kids were mesmerised by Handy Andy and Foxy Brown!!!!
We had breakfast and lunch at the hotel and that really is the only thing they need to improve upon. The breakfast is great such a massive choice but even though you get asked if you want tea and coffee it is a long time coming and even though the food at lunch was excellent quality it would be nice if they changed it now and again and there was more choice as after 2 weeks it is a bit repetitive.
As has been said before you have to keep an eye on your bill as well as they don't always get it right and its not cheap. However when we mentioned our niggles (only in conversation) about the restaurant to a very nice member of staff (Shantelle) she immediately ran and got the manager and he spent a huge amount of time discussing things with us so you do get the impression they want to get it right.
Overall fab holiday, lovely people :)

Room Tip: LPH 3 great views. If we stayed with kids again I would go for a ground floor apartment as you could...

The Ocean Two was an excellent choice for Barbados. Its far enough from the bars on the St. Lawrence Gap that it's quiet and removed, but only a 10-15 minute walk down to the main restaurants (which we ate at every single night). I agree with everyone below that it's all very expensive but you'll find that everywhere you go on the island. The Hotel's staff was uniformly superb and friendly (unlike some of the other service-oriented positions we encountered on the island) and the little touches like a glass of rum punch during check-in were nice. the balcony overlooking the ocean is stunning and incredibly close to every single room that faces the back of the property. The rooms are laid out a little weird with the bedrooms in the back with no windows but it strangely wasn't that big of a deal in the end and we were ultimately incredibly pleased with all the amenities and large-size of the space. Although we took a local bus into Bridgetown one day, we spent almost all three days either at the beach or taking walks up and down Dover beach. It's a great place for an escape and it's very well-appointed, classy, clean, and large. You can't go wrong.

Room Tip: must do an ocean room. nothing else to say.
