This is a little hard to find- its like 1st Ave is L-shaped and this place is on the back of the L !!! When we got there, we thought the place is clean- but- wow, we had the bedroom with the king bed, that can be made into 2 beds- there is NO room for your suitcases and barely room to walk around the bed!! I put mine ontop of one of the nightstands and it was partly on the bed- good thing its a big bed!! I felt like I was sleeping in a closet. For the first few days, we found Bridgette downright strange- it seemed like you couldn't get away from her. She'd talk about 6 inches from my face and about personal business stuff- like how many affidavits she had to do and on and on and on- I'm on holidays... I DON'T CARE!! My sister and brother in law had picked us up from the airport- there was me and my girlfriend staying at Bridgettes, she closed the bedroom door in their face- and said she had to tell us something private- she said we could bring men home- too weird- like I'm 53 and I need permission from her?? Whatever- there was no room for us, let alone bringing home strays!! haha
So, from the beginning we couldn't wait to get out of there- we ended up staying with my sister 4 nights, and left the room empty (but of course, we paid for it) . We'd only stop to pick up stuff and get cornered by Bridgette- it seemed you couldn't get away from her. (I remember thinking...it's MY holiday and I'm NOT your entertainment) She said she could have rented our room out many times- I said I don't care and neither should she- she got paid- what difference is it to her. I found the heat in Barbados, pretty warm!! But the island breeze cooled a person off. Well she wouldn't let you keep the patio door open- someone might climb the walls to get in- she said- so there was no air flow- with only 1 window in the bedroom- that totally sucked. We ended up paying extra for the air conditioner. The little balcony upstairs was a godsend- for having a coffee and toast in the morning and getting a last breathe of fresh air at night before bed. The next duplex has metal bars on their patio doors for security- this one should have the same- so you could get some air flow in here and still have security.
I couldn't imagine cooking in the downstairs kitchen- with no airflow- it was stifling hot. And I don't know where you were to eat your meal, as the dining table was full of laptops and paperwork. The dining room and living room are used as an office- so files and papers everywhere. And yes Bridgette smokes in the house which I didn't mind, as I smoke. And , when we came home late, the T.V, would be just blaring loud- which I thought is quite strange when you have guests trying to sleep- has no one heard of cordless headphones?? I think that Bridgette stays up half the night and in the morning the phone would be ringing with no one to answer it. The room was paid half with a credit card online and the other half was to be paid by cash when we arrived, as per her instructions.
There was an Austrian man in the other room, and he and Bridgette seemed to get along well. They could talk to each other in German, I suppose- I think he must have told her to stop bugging us- because she did, after that things weren't too bad, no accousting us at the door and chatting- till you couldn't get away from her, anymore. We even had a pleasant little visit before we left!! No hard feelings, for sure.
The girls that work for Bridgette are very nice and helpful and polite. The shared bathroom was roomy and okay. For the price ($40 USD a night for 2 of us), I would say, is a good deal, as it is so close to Dover beach and shops and food outlets, stores etc. and the St Lawrence Gap.
For the price and the location - in spite of it all, a person would be tempted to stay here again, next time I would just tell her- to 'can it' (shut up!!!) And put some security bars on those patio doors- so people can breathe- it's HOT in Barbados!! We need air flow!!
The room had a handy safe, and a closet and a large cupboard- so we could have emptied our suitcases into them and maybe asked her if she had a place for the suitcases- so there would be more room, in the room, because really- there isn't any. And the place was clean. Outside the bedroom was a fridge with a small freezer- we froze water bottles to take to the beach in it- nice to keep water and ice, bread, butter , cheese, jam and fruit etc. in, and a toaster and coffee maker- also the cleaning girl would wash any dishes we used, which was really nice.
In the end this turned out to be an okay place to stay, close to everything, which was really nice for us, because when you are on a short winter holiday in Barbados- it's hard to get used to the heat (when you've just come from a Canadian winter) and walking for blocks and blocks was way too hot. Places are cheaper off the 'gap' but then you need taxis or a car rental to get around.
I agree with CBC_7, she is a control freak and seems to be a insomniac and workaholic!! But if you can make it work, its economical, clean , handy and close to the beach!!
