A beautiful place. Lovely gardens and pool area. The beach is close by. Everything about the place is perfect.
The hotel has an excellent restaurant but it is good to go out and dine at the numerous places close by.

Room Tip: We asked for a sea view room and were delighted with it. Watching the sun set from the balcony was a...

After a couple of nights at the South Gapa Hotel we moved to this hotel which was 150 meters further down the road. It is set on an expansive beach with clean white sand and pale blue seas. Probably not too safe for children because of the surf and undertow but the hotel has 2 pools so not a problem. Rooms were pleasant and airconditioned. We had a 2 floor room with a sumptuous double bed upstairs and pulldown double downstairs. There were convenient cafes and restaurants outside for breakfast lunch or dinner. There was also a restaurant and bar at the hotel but quite expensive compared to the alternatives outside. Disappointing was the lack of coffee, tea or sugar in the rooms considering the price of the hotel. Unfortunately it was the only one which had rooms available over the New Year. Price range should have been half what it was. Staff were pleasant and helpful.

Standard rooms are very basic, no cooking facilities, and the fridge and kettle are outside of the room on the balcony. Although a nicely positioned room overlooking the pool it needed a little more of the luxury touch for a hotel in such a position. Also a lot of the guests are repeat customers who know everyone such as the staff and these guests are treated very differently to "newcomers". We were there on our honeymoon but there was no nice touch for us such as a bottle of wine or anything, even though we let the hotel know in advance on our booking. When staying in the rooms round the pool it can be very noisy at night if you want any sleep so avoid these if you dont want to stay up till 2am. The food in the hotel is very expensive, breakfast is £20 each! We tended to go outside the hotel to a little cafe where you could get the same for about £8. We had a wonderful time but not because of the hotel and its staff but because it was our honeymoon, the location is good but you have to pay for the beds on the beach if you want a cushion on them at £10 a day which is very steep if you are there for a couple of weeks. Would I go back to this hotel? No I wouldnt, I would save a whole load of cash by booking a villa instead

This is the fourth time that we have stayed at the hotel, and it was as good as always. Very relaxing, great service, wonderful staff who are ready to do anything for you to make it a memorable stay. We will definitely be back.

Stayed here for 2 weeks with my partner. What can I say, we had the most amazing holiday in the world. Rooms were spotless with huge bed! (Free bottle of rum on arrival), beach towels are provided free of charge with fresh ones daily. Had a garden view room but had great view of ocean from my bed! Staff are very helpful couldn't fault them in any way at all. Food was lovely for everyone's taste. Pool areas are very clean, the facilities on site was brilliant, all equipment for mini golf, snorkelling and body boarding are all free. Gym was clean. Perfect location and beach is unbelievable (sun set is breathtaking). Easy 2 minute walk to the bus stop, but lovely bars and restaurants within walking distance that were nice. Couldn't say a bad word about this hotel overall. Got home 4 days ago and booked my return for next December. Would 100% advise to stay here.

Room Tip: Garden view rooms also have sea view even on ground floor.

Me and my partner have just returned from a very pleasant 13 night stay at Southern Palms. I had previously stayed here in the summer of 2009 and the hotel has not changed at all.

We had a basic room which had a sea/pool view. The room was kept very clean and we also had a fridge and kettle which was very handy – we would visit the Supermarket every couple of days to stock up on beers, rum and coke! (turn right out of the hotel, pass the football pitch and it’s on the left)

The hotel is located on St Lawrence Gap and to walk into the main part takes a good 5 minutes. Good variety of restaurants including: Waterside (book a table in advance as it is small - the ocean view tables are beautiful), Pisces, Harlequins, Brazilian and Café Sol (Mexican) and a couple of more.

We found all staff at the hotel very friendly, with the exception of one! We are a young couple (19-22) and we felt this particular waiter was not happy to serve us. He would snatch menus off us and spoke to us in an unfriendly manner. It was apparent to us every time we walked over for lunch he would sigh. He made patronizing and sarcastic comments to us relating to requests for mayonnaise (it’s not good for you and you don’t need it!) and if we ordered a beer he would advise ‘ you should drink more water’! Apart from these type of comments, there was no other pleasantries, despite us initially trying to engage in conversation with him.

We only had breakfast once at the hotel which was very nice. Food was nice and reasonably priced (apart from the service as stated above!). Lots of people return to SP year after year – we appreciate that staff remember them and have built up relationships, but we did notice a difference in service to those who had visited previously. We found this unacceptable (along with the rude waiter!) and were contemplating eating elsewhere on a couple of occasions as we were ignored.

The hotel had a weekly rum punch party on a Monday 6.30-7.30pm and happy hour on all rum based drinks/ cocktails and beer every night (except Monday) 6-7pm. We did not find many bars on the gap.

We travelled with BA but spoke with the Virgin Rep in regards to trips and car hire. We found all car hires to be really expensive £75+ per day, but we found a place 5 minutes down the road (turn right outside hotel) where we hired a convertible jeep – this cost us $350 Barbadian dollars for 3 days.

Overall we loved Barbados and will be return next year ……….. however we will look for an alternative hotel nearer the top end of the gap.

Room Tip: Our room was on the third floor round by the second pool which could be quite noisy at night as they...

Our 6th wonderful holiday at this lovely hotel. Beautiful position right on beach and made more perfect by the pleasant, helpful and very friendly staff. Cannot wait to get back there again next year.
