“Great hotel - super view, noisy”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 27, 2013 via mobile

Just got back from barbados, stayed in yellow bird for 7 nights and it was great. We had apt 401 the 2 bedroom penthouse. The room was huge, probably 900 sq ft with a spacious patio overlooking the ocean. The 2 bedrooms were large, one with a king size bed and the other with 2 singles. The bath was also very spacious with a shower and corner jacuzzi tub. The staff were incredibly friendly, accommodating and made sure you had everything you needed. Our shower needed a minor repair and they had it fixed within the hour - impressive.

The only downside is that the suites bedroom windows face the reggae bar which plays super loud music 7days/wk. from 10pm-3-4am it was as if we were in the bar. I love music and can handle a bit of noise but this was like you we're actually in a night club- crazy loud. I had to sleep with ear phones in a couple nights. I would recommend a rm on the lower level it seemed to be a bit quieter on levels 1 and 2, facing the other way.

“Great location, fantastic views”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2013

This is a wonderful hotel on the corner of St Lawrence Gap. It is budget accommodation but has everything you could need - from a little kitchen, seating area to a fantastic balcony with the most amazing views of the ocean. The staff are friendly and will do their best to help and there is a little restaurant downstairs called Opa, which specialises in Greek food. This is separate from the hotel so you will have to pay for your meals as you go along but we used it every day for their fantastic breakfasts.
The beach across from the hotel is not really used for swimming and sunbathing, which means that the area around the hotel is quite quiet during the day. However, at night the area becomes quite lively as there are a number of good restaurants nearby. We particularly liked Cafe Sol and Pisces (a bit more expensive).
Do remember your earplugs, because later at night the reggae lounge nearby will start up and you can definitely hear it from the rooms. With earplugs though, it is no problem at all. Our 5 year old son slept through it.
It is a short walk to Dover beach which has excellent facilities and there is a little grocery en route to pick up essentials. The pool area is popular and is a nice area to have a drink. Would love to go back.

Room Tip: All the rooms have sea views

“This was the pefect place for us to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 7, 2013

A very simple selling itself as 3 star but giving 4 star service. It had good rooms well appointed kitchen and thoughtfully had provided coffee to start us off salt and washing up liquid. There was a kettle and a toaster and a microwave. Bathroom was good and lots of soap and smellies were provided. Bath only good for toddlers but shower always had hot water.

The pool area was small but just over the road from the quiet beach it meant that we could leave our towels by the pool and have a shower to get the sand off after a swim. Little Bay is not a busy beach it is shallow having a sand bar about 100 ft offshore so it only got about 5-6ft deep even at high tide. When swimming or even just walking in the sea we often saw leatherback turtles.

This little hotel has towel service and does rooms maintainance and reception very well. Reception staff were excellent remembering who you are and what you like to do very quickly. Even maintainance guy was smiley and chatty from day 1. Room lady goes without saying she was just wonderful. Concierge service not much needed by us we had only 2 requests and when at first we asked we got info then a little sign went up in case any of the other guests needed same info. This happy giving atmosphere made our holiday.

Room Tip: We chose a high floor. This is not for the faint hearted as there is no lift. All rooms have lovely...

“Up all night, unwillingly”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 2, 2013

The hotel info sheet states that they will ask the bars to turn the noise down if necessary. On Friday night the music from the Reggae Lounge was thumping at 2am, we rang the duty manager but the din persisted. At 3am we went down to the office ad asked again. Finally the noise reduced slightly at 3.45am! The hotel is well aware of this and on our insistence they visited the Reggae Lounge the next day, but this changed nothing. The next night the music was still pumping past 3am, and thro the week it still carried on past 2am. Do not stay at the Yellow Bird if you want a proper night's sleep.

Room Tip: Stay elsewhere
