“Great location, fantastic views”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2013

This is a wonderful hotel on the corner of St Lawrence Gap. It is budget accommodation but has everything you could need - from a little kitchen, seating area to a fantastic balcony with the most amazing views of the ocean. The staff are friendly and will do their best to help and there is a little restaurant downstairs called Opa, which specialises in Greek food. This is separate from the hotel so you will have to pay for your meals as you go along but we used it every day for their fantastic breakfasts.
The beach across from the hotel is not really used for swimming and sunbathing, which means that the area around the hotel is quite quiet during the day. However, at night the area becomes quite lively as there are a number of good restaurants nearby. We particularly liked Cafe Sol and Pisces (a bit more expensive).
Do remember your earplugs, because later at night the reggae lounge nearby will start up and you can definitely hear it from the rooms. With earplugs though, it is no problem at all. Our 5 year old son slept through it.
It is a short walk to Dover beach which has excellent facilities and there is a little grocery en route to pick up essentials. The pool area is popular and is a nice area to have a drink. Would love to go back.

Room Tip: All the rooms have sea views

Thanks for the great review - I'm happy you like our location, amenities, staff, pool area and restaurant! You're right, the bay in front of the hotel is not used for swimming but it is great for snorkeling and paddling with little ones. When my kids were toddlers I used to take them there to swim quite regularly.

Recently we have been seeing paddle boarders in the bay as well and of course my guests tell me quite often they see turtles out there so if you want to swim with the turtles it's the ideal place to do so.

I'm also happy to hear that you would like to come back and hope you do so as we are truly honored when first timers become repeat guests.

Such a nice review - thanks so much! The fact that you have stayed with us three times already and planning a fourth visit says it all. Heads up about booking for 2014 - if you are planning to stay with us in February or March next year, please book early as these two months are filling up quite fast. Not sure why but it may have something to do with cricket!

A very simple selling itself as 3 star but giving 4 star service. It had good rooms well appointed kitchen and thoughtfully had provided coffee to start us off salt and washing up liquid. There was a kettle and a toaster and a microwave. Bathroom was good and lots of soap and smellies were provided. Bath only good for toddlers but shower always had hot water.

The pool area was small but just over the road from the quiet beach it meant that we could leave our towels by the pool and have a shower to get the sand off after a swim. Little Bay is not a busy beach it is shallow having a sand bar about 100 ft offshore so it only got about 5-6ft deep even at high tide. When swimming or even just walking in the sea we often saw leatherback turtles.

This little hotel has towel service and does rooms maintainance and reception very well. Reception staff were excellent remembering who you are and what you like to do very quickly. Even maintainance guy was smiley and chatty from day 1. Room lady goes without saying she was just wonderful. Concierge service not much needed by us we had only 2 requests and when at first we asked we got info then a little sign went up in case any of the other guests needed same info. This happy giving atmosphere made our holiday.

Room Tip: We chose a high floor. This is not for the faint hearted as there is no lift. All rooms have lovely...

I loved reading your review, especially how you started about the service we offered. It's the first lesson I was taught in this industry - that you don't have to have a 5 star hotel to offer 5 star service and it is something that my staff hear from me over and over again. I'm a little disappointed that you only received 4 star service though - it's time to have a little chat with my team again and remind them about our service motto!

I'm also happy that you appreciated the little extras we put in the rooms for our guests - we really try to make them as comfortable as possible. Thanks for taking the time to post your comments and we hope to be able to welcome you to our hotel once again in the near future.

The hotel info sheet states that they will ask the bars to turn the noise down if necessary. On Friday night the music from the Reggae Lounge was thumping at 2am, we rang the duty manager but the din persisted. At 3am we went down to the office ad asked again. Finally the noise reduced slightly at 3.45am! The hotel is well aware of this and on our insistence they visited the Reggae Lounge the next day, but this changed nothing. The next night the music was still pumping past 3am, and thro the week it still carried on past 2am. Do not stay at the Yellow Bird if you want a proper night's sleep.

Room Tip: Stay elsewhere

I'm so sorry that the music from the Reggae Lounge disturbed your stay with us. When the owner of the club is on duty the music is not so loud. It's when he leaves that his young deejay's pump up the volume. Our fantastic location in the Gap means we have to be near to this establishment but unfortunately that is the way it is. We have alot of repeat clientele who seem to be able to sleep well even with the club nearby but then there are some who just can't.

I hope it doesn't deter you from visiting Barbados again as we have so many nice hotels in quieter locations and I hope you will return again and enjoy our beautiful island.

Just returned after 2 weeks at the Yellow Bird. Great location with St. Lawrence Bay right across the street and 2 lovely beaches within walking distance from the hotel. Close to restaurants and night clubs. The Staff are the friendliest group of people who take great care in making sure you have an enjoyable experience. OPA Restaurant located right in the hotel has great food, and the staff are very friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: Upgrade to one of the newly renovated rooms, you won't be disappointed

Thanks for taking the time to write this lovely review. I am so happy that you enjoyed your stay with us. You are absolutely correct - we are located in the best spot on the island with each room facing the bay and two beautiful beaches so close to our hotel. Plus we've got the best staff and they just love to spoil our guests. And being able to walk out of a hotel and sample delicious food at so many different dining establishments is quite amazing if I say so myself! Our very own Opa is fantastic as well - hope you tried their Big Fat Greek Omelette - it is very good!

So I hope you come and stay with us again and please recommend us to your family, friends and co-workers!

We stayed in the yellow Bird for 2weeks after Xmas. It has a great location, being close to restaurants, bars and a couple of Nightclubs. Howerver, the noise from the Reggae Lounge was very loud until 3a.m or so. It was OK for us as we were out late but if you fancied an early night it would be very difficult to sleep.
The room was basic, but I understand that all the rooms will be upgraded soon, the ones that have already been done are amazing. I would love to stay in one of the newly done-up rooms, they are like a 5star hotel, so maybe next time!!
Great to sit on the balcony and watch the world go by, looking out onto St.Lawrences Bay and the amazing sunsets. The view is really fantastic. The Greek themed restaurant is excellent, and the staff friendly, prices are good too.
Small pool with some sun-loungers, never gets too busy as you are so close to beautiful beaches. Very handy location to get a bus in either direction and at 2bajan dollars a pop it's very cheap to travel on public transport.
Superb restaurants in the area all within 5mins. Pisces is across the road, and although this is one of the more expensive ones, you can't leave without going for a meal there!

I never get tired of reading the lovely reviews of our hotel and yours was very nice. I am happy that you were able to enjoy the music that comes with our location. I always tell my guests, "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em!". Think about it, how many of us get to go clubbing regularly like we did when we old enough to do so? Most of us work five days a week and have errands to run on weekends.

Staying at our hotel in St. Lawrence Gap gives my guests the opportunity to revist those carefree days. So if you book a room at our hotel, remember to pack your "dancing shoes"!

from the very first email with the hotel i found the staff to be pleasant and helpful. They booked my reserverations for new years eve, and when an upgrade became available they emailed me straight away to ask if we would like it. I accepted and am delighted to say the room was amazing. from everything you could possibly need in a kitchen from a toaster / kettle/ microwave down to condiments provided.

All rooms I believe have a sea view, and this in its self is beautiful. Our maid was so friendly and kept everything spick and span, and when we had a minor issue with the room, maintenence sorted it efficently and with a minimum of fuss and no disruption to ourselves. The restaurant downstairs (Opa) was well priced and food was delicious. My only suggestion would be to have some lighter snacks availalbe in the day such as a sandwich etc, but this wasnt a problem.

Hotel is well situated and within minutes walking distance of some fantastic beaches. I note that some people complained about the noise from the surrounding clubs but this wasnt a problem for us.

All staff were extremely helpful, and offered great tips for getting out and about especially Dale !!
Cant wait to go back there, and would recommend it to anyone.

Room Tip: Room 301 is the newest upgraded room which we had, offers fantastic views, huge extra king size bed...
