“Penthouse apartment at St. Lawrence Apartments”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 25, 2014

A Great time for our whole family. Everything was nice and the hot tub and deck were great. St. Lawrence is a great place to stay, lots to do and good bars and restaurants. This was our second time in St. Lawrence. We prefer Barbados to the other Caribbean Islands because the people are great and not aggressive when they try to sell you their goods.

Very little to say negative but here they are.
1. On weekends the music can be loud from the bars across the street which stay open until 3 am but the bedrooms are very quiet despite that. It never keep me awake.
2. Don't expect a quick response to any question you have. The booking agent/manager is very... very slow to respond to your questions.
After they checked out the apartment when we were leaving Barbados, I tried to have them sign a statement that everything was in the same condition as when we came. They refused to do that which made me nervous that I might be taken for my deposit. I could see no reason why they would not agree to sign a release. That made me feel that I was at risk for a special American visitor tax!
I did, though, receive the entire deposit back.

Just a point of clarification to help other travellers. We sometimes receive requests from guests as they are departing regarding the return of their security deposit. It is quite difficult for the staff to comment on this whilst the condos are still occupied, particularly so in the case of the large penthouse. The normal process is that housekeeping service the apartments and report any damage to the property manager upon completion. Following this, the security deposits are then refunded.

Apt # 11- Deja Blue- This private and corner apartment was just perfect, especially all the attention to detail in the linens (important stuff). The king bed was SO comfortable, and to hear the roaring waves while trying to fall asleep was INCREDIBLE. I am an early riser, and I found it quite difficult to get out of that bed any and every day- between the comfort, views and sounds- WOW!!!

Jerry, Michael (security guards), and everyone we met throughout the grounds was pleasant:)

The maid was friendly and accommodating, but we do wish there was more than one bath towel allotted per person. We had to reuse for days, just not my thing.

The kitchen is well-stocked. I really liked having the electric kettle and pitcher to make my own iced tea and having all else I needed to make meals. Eating out was quite expensive, but, actually, so were groceries. NYC prices, if not - MORE.

The owners have good taste in quality decorating; even the dishes and flatware are nice. The refrigerator/freezer, though, would not stay closed. You must check both doors, every time. We learned to do this, no big deal.

The "small" beach was not swimmable, and, honestly, quite dangerous to even stand except at lowest tide. We walked to two very pretty beaches nearby so not a huge deal, but we just wish we had known.

The pool was refreshing and had bathrooms and showers- nice extras.

We always felt safe in and around our place:)

The owners were very helpful with any questions we had and in providing recommendations. Just note, the WIFI password, in the booking letter, is old. Ask owners for the new one!

The Indian restaurant next door to the apartment was our favorite - the view, service, food, decor, EVERYTHING. Loved it.

Our favorite excursion was "Cool Runnings" Catamaran. JUST PLAIN EXCELLENT!!! We went twice in the one week we were there!!!

Room Tip: The corner unit (Apt 11- DEJA BLUE) is a much better room than the center ones....much more privacy...

We have just returned from yet another amazing stay at our favourite condo's.
We love waking up opening the large windows and just looking out at the blue ocean and hearing the waves and also sitting on the terrace in the morning and evening.
Barbara was organised and extremely helpful, as always. Actually she goes above and beyond.
We stayed in number 14 almost heaven on the third floor. It is so close to everything yet so quite at the back. Extremely comfy and homely, we love it.

We stayed in Apt #13 Ocean Vista over the Easter holidays. It was a private booking via Owners Direct through Tony who owns it. We were last there, in the same apt last October and from now on whenever we are staying on the South Coast this will be our choice of place to stay. The apt itself has every appliance that you would need, including washer/dryer so no need for loads of clothes and dirty laundry to come home to. It really is a home from home thats got peace and quiet but bang in the middle of The Gap and its an ideal base to get from to see all what the island offers. Cant wait till October time for our next stay.

What can we say....it's better than the photos.

This was our first time in Barbados, and we had an amazing experience. Jane could not be more helpful about not just our booking, but all the details to make entry to Barbados easy, transfers etc.

We stayed in apartment 4, Sea Glass, and are a family of four. mum,Dad and two teenage boys. Both boys are studying and the idea was this would be a great place to study and have some time in the sun.

The spaciousness of the apartments made this really easy, and with two dressing tables that doubled as desks, two outside tables and chairs there was plenty of room.

The twin room was great for the boys, and the two bathrooms are as big and well appointed as they seem in the photos. add to this the regular maid service, and the provision of plenty of towels including beach towels, and we were all set.

The kitchen has high quality appliances. We were glad of the big fridge freezer and the washing machine, but generally well equipped. The lounge area is comfortable and there are two tv's although we didn't use either.

In the master bedroom, which opens onto the pool area, there is a second fridge: great for having cold drinks on hand.

Air conditioning is effective and fans are often sufficient to keep the rooms cool.

In terms of "the gap", we found it ideal for grabbing drinks, supper etc, but critically, we heard absolutely no noise during the night. we were early to bed most nights, but the only noise we heard was the hypnotic crashing of the waves! The apartment bedrooms are below ground level, and sea side, so probably not surprising but a pleasant surprise.

The pool and pool area was really well stocked wi chairs and loungers and kept immaculately clean. The pool was never crowded and the area was generally quiet and relaxing.

We also thoroughly enjoyed being able to use the large gas BBQ on nights we fancied staying in.

The beach and jetty are brilliant. although the beach area is small, the floor of the beach is flat for some distance, allowing you to walk a long way out to sea. in addition, my husband and sons thoroughly enjoyed body surfing in the waves.

The local beaches, Dover and Hastings are both beautiful and well equipped. For families with smaller children the beach area just 200 yards from the apartments, in the "gap" offers shallow warm water with no current or waves, and generally the tide is low enough to walk round to Hastings beach, where the Carib Beach bar is highly recommended.

Our kids saw turtles in the sea around the beaches, and we all enjoyed the warmth of the water.

Supermarkets are well equipped and within ten minute walk. Gift shops are available in the gap and the local convenience store is quirky and well equipped.

We hired a car for three days, but two would be plenty to tour the Island.

At all times Jane and her team were available to help and to do anything that made our holiday more special. A really incredible place.

We stayed in Sea Glass for 10 nights and it was a great time. My only complaint is that the sheets and pillows were very low quality and felt more like prison quality. Also, they only changed the towels every 3 days and they would get stinky very quickly because of the humidity. I would book again but would definitely bring my own sheets and towels. In the unit we were in you couldn't hear the night clubs whatsoever so noise was definitely not an issue. The ocean view was stunning and the pool was nice and clean. Staff were very friendly and accommodating as well.

Booking through Jane Shattock was easy and she made sure we had everything we needed to know before we arrived. Our studio apartment was large with a four poster bed and a lovely ensuite bathroom comprising his and her wash basins, a large corner bath and spacious shower. Our patio opened out directly onto the garden and pool.

The freshwater pool was so good and we used it several time a day. The condos are blessed with a small beach with a wooden pier. The colours of the sky, the deep blue sea with crashing waves beyond the reef and the calmer aquamarine sea inside the reef were spectacular. We swam with sea turtles several times right off the beach.

Heather, Ricardo, Sandra, Jerry and many more staff were very friendly, easy to speak to and nothing was too much for them. We met several other holidaymakers staying at the condos and got on well with them. Most were British or Canadian couples.

As we did not want to hire a car, the location was great as most of what we needed was a short stroll including a small convenience store. It is also very handy for the buses to Bridgetown and the rest of the island. We went to nearly all the bars and restaurants on The Gap and soon found our favourites. We knew the happy hours by heart.

The trade off for this location is that it can be a bit noisy at night for some people. It did not bother us..

We will return.

Room Tip: If you are a light sleeper who goes early to bed make sure you have a bedroom overlooking the sea
