We moved here to a de-luxe studio. Wonderful..clean, quiet, beach so good..no hassle from sellers. One beach shack selling hand made beach wear ( the owner sews the garments as you watch). Security above average. We had a garden view which was cooler in evening. Bliss.
The 39 steps restaurant is on site..great meal and service.
The snack area at lunch is good..rotis best on menu. Happy hour is 12.30- 1.30. Afterwards you can have a jacuzi and plunge pool. Swim in the sea after 3pm..calm then, warm and safe. Watersports on offer here too.
We had trip round Island. Oistens night and Cat trip.

I travelled alone and for all of you thinking of such a trip, be ready to pay. Most of the outings are for couples...unavailable or more pricey for those travelling alone. The hotel was right for the price. I found them to be helpful and attentive to the guests. Have your plans set before 10 p.m. as everything tends to shut down at that hour at the hotel. I found that receiving calls could be bothersome as there was not enough staff to direct the incoming calls or your call to the staff if you needed them after hours. Also you should change all currency to Barbadian dollars upon arrival. If you pay with US dollars, your change will be in Barbadian dollars and there is no flexibility. Beware of your in-room phone use as there are charges of $1 US for all outgoing calls no matter if it's local or if you are using a calling card. Use the phone provided in the lobby for your local calls. The hotel staff were helpful in directing you to the nightclubs and other entertainment. Take the JC Williams tour of the island. It was the best and drinks are provided along with a nice lunch for about $70 US. The Amaryllis is just a short walk to TGIF and other restaurants, but I enjoyed having dinner at the beach bar most evenings. In summary, it was indeed just right for the price!

Just returned from two terrific weeks at the Amaryllis Beach Resort in Barbados - and one word describes it all: superb. Despite the negative reviews you might read (and admittedly, the resort does have a few shortcomings) the place is truly paradise.

Beach: superb for swimming and some snorkeling, too. We saw all sorts of fish and even a small octopus.

Food: we were on the "all-inclusive" optional meal plan, and while it's not ideal 100% of the time, it did offer a pretty good value and the food at breakfast (buffet) and dinner is really quite good. Kudos to Andrea and Patrick in the Almond restaurant. Great service. Lunch at the beach bar is a hit-or-miss affair that is hampered by poor service at the beach bar. The resort offers guests a coupon once a week to eat at the 39 Steps restuarant just next to the resort and the food was superb.

Room: definitely time for a re-furbishing, and our first room had a mouldy bathroom ceiling that actually ended up leaking and partially falling - but the resort was quick to upgrade us to an oceanfront room no more than ten yards from the beach.

Excursions: 4X4 island tour A+, Atlantis submarine and the Mount Gay Rum Factory were also a blast. The Cool Runnings catamaran swim with the turtles is a must-do. Great shopping in Bridgetown - nice cigars at the cigar factory.

Book the Amaryllis and don't give a second thought to it. It's great.

We stayed at the Amaryllis Resort in a garden view superior studio room. Our unit was about 20 feet from the path to the main pool and a close walk to the pool. We also had a first floor unit so we could just close the doors that lead out to the patio and exit our room that way.

The grounds and beach made this resort very enjoyable for us. The room was a bit dated and they really don't provide the little extra's that can be found at other resorts. But the size of the unit was a good size for two people with lots of luggage. The bathroom was also roomy and I could spread out all my lotions, shampoo's ect on the sink. We had no problems with any hairy scary mold growing, but did find some scattered grey spots on the grout. A maid did come in everyday to clean and kept on top of it.

We used the service at the resort to rent a jeep, book tee times for golf, and do horseback riding. No problem.
We used the internet service but it did go down one day, and did get credit back for that day. Also had a small problem with the safe twice that was quickly taken care of in a matter of minutes once we placed a call to the front desk.

I would not suggest doing the all inclusive at the resort because we really didn't care for the food there. The breakfast was ok, and it was free so I can't complain. We went to other places to eat, since I don't cook on vacation we never used the kitchen area other than the fridge for drinks.

The workers were friendly, great beach and not crowded, nice grounds, so we enjoyed our stay for that reason.

Barbados is beautiful and I found the south part of this island my least favorite due to the heavy traffic in the area. Try to explore the island or take a tour to see the other areas such as Bathsheba, Holetown, and the west coast if you can. We also didn't care for Bridgetown and never made it to the Gap. The Hilton is not far, and I would recommend a visit to that resort for dinner and a stroll around the resort.

Beautiful location on an excellent beach! All meals served beach side on veranda or open air (umbrellas, of course). My room was in one of the interior buildings; clean, a/c worked well! On site store was fully stocked with needed items; even found the perfect souvenir hat! The two nights there were very positive overall with only one negative experience. Breakfast buffet was slow in set up based on scheduled times; burned my finger on hot steam from one of the trays that was empty (and contents not labeled)! Table service for other meals was excellent and very attentive. Should I return to Barbados, I would seek it out for beach side stay.
