Me and my wife figured we give Blakey's a chance even though the latest review was bad. My wife chose a dish with prawns and I chose the bajan style porkchop with spicy fries, sweet chili dip and an extra side of honey mustard dip.
After about an hour, my wife had enough of waiting and asked when we could expect the food, "any minute now" was the response, and sure enough a couple of minutes later the food arrived to the table, unfortunately only to disappoint further.
The quality of the food was anything but sub par. 6 small prawns on a skewer with some salad was all that my wife got. My pork looked like a 5 year old had deep fried a baseball glove with some jamaican jerk seasoning, and the fries was mushy like mashed potatoes, and the taste was about the same, no real spice there at all. My dip was also missing until I pointed it out.
When we explained our disappointment to the waitress she offered to comp dessert if we wanted but we already had enough by then, so she fetched the owner of the place who came to our table and apologized and wanted our feedback. Unfortunately the only excuse he had was that it was a busy night and he would comp the 2 drinks we had. Excluding the drinks it still ended up 84 barbados dollars.
So basically the quality of the food was like KFC (the dip tasted the same as KFC even..) but with a good one hour wait instead of the 5-10 minutes it probably took to prepare the food.
If they could just sort their problems out in the kitchen, then they wouldn't have to waste time on apologizing, comping and getting dissatisfied guests.
Maybe it's worth going there for the drinks, but definitely not for the food.
