“Very pleasant stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 14, 2013

I agreed with a lot of the reviewers who commented positively on the hotel. We stayed for 8 days in room 49. It was large and clean with a simple and pleasant decor. Since it was on the third floor and there is no elevator visitors who have physical limitations need to be concerned with room location. We counted 71 steps from the beach but thought it good exercise since we were reclining on the beautiful beach all day. The trees made for a great and unique beach setting.

The staff were extremely helpful and everyone was friendly. The owners are very involved in the operation of the hotel and work very hard to make it a great experience for all.

We did find breakfast a bit tiresome. We had the full breakfast and the omelets, French toast and pancakes were all very good. Even with the ordering from the menu you have to get your own coffee, juice, water and toast. The buffet really has a full breakfast with eggs, beans, potatoes, cereal and toast. No hot cereals or rolls seemed to be available.

The rooms had a water heating pot, microwave, toaster oven and refrigerator. I would have preferred a coffee maker even if I had to buy the coffee.

All in all it was a very nice experience. The location is good with lot of good restaurants easily accessible. I would definitely return as I thought it was an overall good value.

Dear Friend, thank you for taking the time to write this review for us. I am glad that you liked your room. Our rooms are large by hotel standards and we have ensured that there is everything that you need to enjoy a comfortable stay. Thanks for making points about the coffee maker and the stairs. Most folks dont mind but I will mention this information on the hotel website and suggest that persons request a high or low floor depending on what they prefer at time of booking. I am also going to mention that we keep coffee makers in stock and guests just need to let us know if they would like to have one placed in their room on arrival. Happy to do that, no problem. Take care and enjoy a wonderful summer. I hope that you will come back for another visit with us soon. Best wishes, Linda, Jason, Mark and friends.

“Pleasant stay at the CCBH”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 14, 2013 via mobile

Stayed in room 15 from 22/02/2013-1/3/2013.

Having stayed in the Hastings area before, the Coconut Court was no less appealing than we expected. There are plenty of 4/5 star hotels in Barbados if desired.
The staff were very welcoming and friendly. Having pre booked an ocean view room and stayed in similar accommodation on highway 7, the room was as of similar size and the road noise is something to expect from this area. Always research and check reviews as this is a regular comment. The room is serviced daily but was very dusty on the bed headboard and other surfaces.
The beach is superb and with lots of restaurants and bars within walking distance, room only was the right choice for us. There is live music several nights and bear this in mind if you prefer to go to bed early !
We did Teds tour which was informative, even if teds routine is predictable, his jokes corny and well rehearsed.
If you fancy some local music and culture, try " the good life" bar one evening ( Thursday is best) . Just past the end of the quayside plaza, turn left ( before chefette) . Friendly welcome and good food awaits .

“Beware - There Are Some Awful Rooms”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed March 11, 2013

Rms 24, 25, 26 and the 3 rooms above, sandwiched between two blocks - we were in Rm 25. The room was very dated, dismal, albeit I would say it was clean. The worst aspect was the balcony - the floor based air-conditioning unit was housed on the balcony, giving out so much heat making it impossible to sit there. Not that you would want to anyway. Where you would normally find railings or such you had a solid concrete wall about chest high obscuring any view should you be seated, and also stopped heat escaping. However, the view looked onto the long corrugated roof of the reception below - it was dirty, with constant drips of water from the overhang of the room above. This is not what you want after travelling from the UK, arriving tired and too late in the day to seek alternate accommodation. Bearing in mind this standard room was booked over 6 months in advance, therefore there would have been better standard rooms available at the time. The cynic in me suggests the management at this hotel have a deliberate policy of allocating/getting rid of these rooms ASAP to unsuspecting clients knowing that when they arrive in peak time there are no other rooms available in the hotel, and having had to pay for 3 days in advance to secure your room are confident you will stay and put up with it rather than have the hassle of losing your deposit and inconvenience of seeking alternate accommodation. After a few days an alternate room was offered at the side of the hotel but this looked onto a car park and the back of adjacent hotel - we refused this and had to stay where we were. These rooms should not be used to house anyone.

Room Tip: Ask for room in a re-furbished block

Dear Friend, thank you for taking the time to write about your recent experience while staying with us at Coconut Court. I am sorry that you were unhappy with your room assignment. We have tried to give an accurate representation of our guest rooms on our website and it is clearly noted that the Standard Room category only offers a limited sea view. The photograph that you submitted shows this information is correct.Thank you for noting the cleanliness of the rooms, that was much appreciated.
My family has owned and operated Coconut Court for thirty eight years and while we do not offer a luxury resort experience we have tried over the years to ensure that our guests receive friendly service in a safe, clean environment at an affordable price. Your comments about our motives are out of line.
Our hotel is extremely busy during the peak winter months of December through March and I always advise guests to reserve the specific room category that you would like at the time of booking. Guests can also contact the hotel driectly to arrange a room upgrade (more economical this way) prior to arrival to avoid disappointment. We are not able to upgrade guests after arrival if there are no alternative rooms available and we cannot downgrade another customer who has booked an Ocean Front Room or Ocean View Studio to accommodate your request. Thank you for noting that we did present you with an alternative when it became available. I think this shows that our staff tried their best to meet your request and to make you comfortable.
I have noted your point about the air conditioner condenser being positioned on the balcony. I know that this can be a nuisance. Thankfully, the design of air conditioning units is changing and these large condensers will soon be a thing of the past. We do try to place them on the landings where we can but sometimes this is not possible as they have been repeatedly damaged by suitcases in the outside corridor. The brown roof top in your photo is the hotel lobby roof and while I know that the ocean view is infinitely nicer to look at, we do regularly power wash our roofs to keep them looking as good as we can. The concrete balcony railing meets international health and safety regulations. In our newly renovated rooms, we have replaced these with an aluminum railing. They really do a wonderful job to keep our guests safe while permitting a full view to the ocean.
I hope that you will return to stay with us again in the future. We are upgrading our rooms and by the end of this summer (2013) we will have 45 completely renovated units. By 2014, there will be 75 completely new renovated rooms in our hotel inventory.
Our Standard Rooms will remain, as they are a very popular option for our guests that are travelling on a tight budget who still wish to enjoy a well deserved vacation in Barbados. I think it is important to have realistic expectations of what a Standard Room is and for the majority of our guests, they are happy with them. If in doubt, please check our hotel website as there is an accurate description of the amenties listed there for everyone to read.
Best Regards, Linda, Jason, Mark and the team at Coconut Court.

“Hotel by the beach!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 8, 2013

This hotel is located perfectly by the beach. All you need is close, walking distance to Bridgetown and well connected by public traffic too. One big missing point was breakfast. Barely no greens (tomato, cucumber, salads...), no cheese, few fruits.

“Great Value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 7, 2013

We stayed at the hotel in February/March for 10 nights and we were on a budget -and this hotel has really good value for us.
Room was basic but very clean-(room has been cleaned every day) with the balcony,
Wi-Fi access, kitchenette, fridge, microwave,cuttlery, plates cups,ect.
-faboulous beach
-plenty of loungers,
-lot of activities -like Ted's travel around the island (very recommended!!), diving, snoorkeling with the big turtles (Day trip with catamaran),
-we booked the room with breakfast only -food was good, but every day almost the same:
2 juices (orange and pinneaple), tea, coffe, toast, jam , scrambled eggs, fried eggs, omeletts, cereals, fruits, cupcakes, beans & cube potatoes ( for fans of Irish /UK breakfast ), but lack of sausages or bacon .
.
They have nice bar "Blue Room" with happy hours , and with very good food (grilled fish fully recommended)

Minus:
there is no playground for the kids,
they do not have an elevator
street noise during the night

anyway is worth to come for couples, friends or solo.
