“Recommended hotel with a few caveats”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2012

My girlfriend and I just came back from a week stay at Coconut Court in Oct/Nov 2012.

The good:

The hotel is centrally located and is a short bus ride to tourist destinations like St Lawrence Gap, Oistins, Bridgetown etc. Also is walking distance from the Lantern mall and the boardwalk.

True beach front property. We stayed in an oceanfront room and the view is absolutely spectacular! We were just a few hundred feet from the water and can clearly hear the waves from our balcony.

The beach, though public like all beaches in Barbados, is like a private beach with plenty of palm trees for shade and tanning chairs.

The rooms and bathrooms are very clean and the a/c in the rooms works well.

Staff are mostly courteous and very helpful with a few exceptions.

Rooms are quiet. We did not hear any of our neighbours throughout our stay.

Happy hour at the beach bar from 12-1 and 5-6pm. The rum is delicious and the drinks are real drinks, not watered down. The prices are very good for drinks even at regular hours.

Free Wi-Fi, though slow and choppy, is a great feature to have throughout the property and on the beach.

Our room had an electric kettle, microwave, toaster and fridge. Very convenient! It also had a hair dryer and iron.

The bad:

The food at the hotel, though reasonably priced, is sub-par, even for a 3 star hotel. You're better off eating at St Lawrence Gap or any other location. The burger at the beach bar had nothing to do with a burger, it was some mushy piece of meat that was falling apart (though I ordered it well done). Dinners were also below average quality.

The breakfast is very limited even for a 3 star hotel. They should add some cheeses and fruits (other than just bananas). Also a selection of fresh breads other than just toast would be nice.

The beach, though nice, is a bit rocky once you get in the water. It's a little annoying trying to walk on pointy rocks when you want to go for a relaxing swim. One positive point though is that they have wave breaker rocks that make the area immidiately in front of the hotel quite calm for swimming.

The king mattress in the room was extremely hard, it was sleeping on a wooden plank! Too bad, becasue otherwise the room was great.

No room service.

Other comments:

If you're looking to party, this hotel (and Barbados in general) is not for you. The town is dead by 11pm. I didn't mind because my gf and I were looking for a relaxing vacation and the hotel and Barbados was perfect for that!

Conclusion:

I certainly recommend this hotel for anyone looking for a clean, fun and relaxing stay without luxury or breaking the bank. I would hope they would improve the hotel as per my comments. Then it would be paradise!

Room Tip: Paying a bit extra for an oceonfront room was definitely worth it!

Yet another excellent return to this idyllic beach hotel on Barbados. The rooms were excellent, and the upgrades being undertaken will really make it even more worthwhile trying to get back there again sooner rather than later! I could not find any fault with any of the staff, from cleaning to restaurant, reception to bar, they really are as you wish all hotel staff were, just friendly, approachable and nothing too much trouble. Great food, good entertainment and make sure you check out the stalls at their managers party for some real bargins on local art and jewellery. It's an ideal base to explore from and be sure to use their trip booking desk for good advise on where to go and value you'll find hard to match. Breakfast is more than enough to set you up for the day, and the early start and late finish times a welcome change which give you so much freedom to relax and enjoy without having to rush each morning. Never feel so relaxed as when here, and that all down to how well this hotel functions and values it's guests.

Room Tip: Higher rooms give slightly better views, those to the far right are slightly restricted due to the a...

First time in Barbados and very pleased with our choice of hotel. We would definitely go back to Coconut Court when returning to Barbados, and learnt that many people we met at the hotel had stayed there before.
The hotel enjoys an enviable position right on the beach, and what a lovely beach it is too ! It's also a short trip into Bridgetown, Oistins for a Friday evening experience, the nightlife of St Lawrence Gap, or to many of the high quality restaurants dotted around the whole area. You can't help but get into the Bajan spirit using the ZR vans to get around.
One of the key hotel strengths was their staff, who were always really friendly, courteous and helpful from the cleaners, groundsmen, restaurant and bar staff, receptionists through to Margaret. A special mention for Antonio and Mark.
The breakfast was good, with a wide choice and set us up nicely for the day. We enjoyed many lunches ( and drinks !) at the beach bar, and were never disappointed on the occasional evening when we ate in the hotel restaurant. Don't miss the curry night ! !
Ok so some of the rooms are a little dated, although please note that the hotel is in the process of renovating many of the rooms. However they were a great size, clean, very comfortable and perfectly adequate. The bed was large and really comfortable, and the air-con worked a treat, which is essential in Barbados ! ! We had a superior beach front room, which had a nice balcony and beautiful view. Even the beach got a sweep clean every morning.
Practical tip: there are a number of banks in close vicinity who will give you a much better rate of exchange than buying your barbadian dollars at home, commission free.

Room Tip: Recommend the superior beach front rooms. If you're not on the ground floor then the view more t...

My wife and I returned to Barbados for our second time. We saw a great deal through our travel agent for Coconut Court Beach Hotel so we decided to give it a shot. After reading the reviews we felt it was a good choice and arrived on Oct 22 for our 1 week holiday. Upon arrival to the hotel, the check-in process was fairly quick and painless. We were advised that we had a standard room, however that was fine by us. We had read a number of reviews on this site advising to pass on ocean-view upgrades because if you ask for a standard room on a higher floor, you would get the same experience. Our advice would be to book the upgrade. When we were taken to our room, we were both quite concerned as it was a very tired looking room, with a partial view of the ocean but a full view of a dirty metal roof over the restaurant kitchen and the smells that go along with it. The room itself was what we would call "below standard". It had a terrible smell of mold/mildew/chemical, as well as a toilet that just would not flush. My wife has significant health issues and the musty smell was a huge concern. We went to speak with the front desk staff and they sent a manager and houskeeping supervisor out and both agreed that the room was unacceptable but they didn't have any other rooms available. We were both visibly upset and when they noticed this they worked hard until they found us another room (at no additional charge).

The second room was 1000 times better with a beautiful, full view of the ocean, beach and pool/spa. We did have a problem with the AC which was fixed within an hour, and the fridge packed it in one morning, but that too was fixed promptly. What started out as a complete disaster on our arrival day, turned completely around and the rest of our stay was amazing. The staff are incredible and friendly. The Blue Room across the street was a nice bonus. Start at the deck restaurant or beach bar for happy hour from 5 to 6, then walk across the street to the Blue Room for happy hours from 6 to 7, 9 to 10, and girls drink for free from 10 to 11. The meals at the hotel and the Blue Room were very nice. The breakfast, although included with our accommodation was very repetitive but the inclusion of hot items was a bonus.

The location is perfect. Walk or take a bus or reggae van to Rockley for more restaurant options, groceries, beautiful beach, etc. Oistins, The Gap and Bridgetown are close by. The boardwalk is about a 5 minute walk from the hotel on the beach, and is great for a walk in the early evening for beautiful sunsets. Make sure you eat at Tapa's on the boardwalk...it's amazing.

Overall, our stay at Coconut Court turned out to be fantastic after a shaky start, and I must commend the management on their successful effort to make something that was bad, right. When a hotel can do that, it says a lot. We will definitely be back again (but will book an upgraded room from the get-go).

Room Tip: Upgraded ocean-view rooms will get you a better quality room in addition to a lovely view. Don'...

Having stayed in both neighbouring hotels and paid an awful lot more than I did at coconut court I have to say the other hotels have a lot to learn from this friendly place. The rooms are not plush but spacious and clean the staff are friendly and helpful and there is a feel good factor the minute you walk in , I loved it so much I gave already booked for Feb 2013 . My down points are that there is rocks peppered around the waters entrance which can hurt your feet, the air con units outside you front door is like walking into a hot oven especially if you are at the end of the block having said all that this is a great family run hotel with a great family feel I can't wait to get back

Nice Clean room at a good price. I could not get the remodelled rooms or beach front but was still happy with the room as it was quiet and had a good bed. All you do is sleep in the room anyway. The beach at the hotel was a great one. The morning "continental" breakfast had eggs every day and good sweet breads.

Room Tip: Ask for remodelled beach front room away from Blue Room noise across the street
