“Great little gen”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 29, 2012 via mobile

Sat having last cocktail before flight home. Have heard negatives comments while here but to us this place is a bit of paradise. Some people expect British standards wherever they go and should stay at home if that's what they want, didn't they realize they hadn't booked the Sandy Lane hotel. Rant over, the staff were fantastic and very friendly and welcoming. Rachel's was our restaurant of choice and tasted true Bajan flavours. Rm 328 was large with lovely views over the grounds and beach view. Previos comments about the beach being rocky are true but this meant we could watch the turtles bobbing up from our sun loungers I'm sure they were playing hide and seek with those who ventured in to get a closer look. Finally thank you to everyone who made our silver wedding celebration special on Christmas eve despite the weather. See you next time

“Won't be staying again”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 28, 2012 via mobile

There were a lot of little things that could be improved about our stay here and a few big issues that needed to be handled. We arrived and had to cart our own luggage down steep stairs to our room. Only to see the next day they did have a lift and a trolley!
Our room smelt mildly of damp, but I thought maybe it will pass! Only to find a few days later that our bathroom was leaking after some heavy rain. We had 2 large leaks and clearly it had leaked before hence the damp smell! Phoned reception didn't apologise of give much advice! Had to find a maintenance lady and get a mop bucket ourselves. It was Christmas Eve, so that ruined our night.

The food in Rachael's restaurant from the al a carte menu is good. A lot of the locals spoke highly of it. The buffet night food wasn't as great. Breakfast is a nice idea with the birds flying around, but practically a bit annoying when you have to watch your back on the chairs in case of bird poo. And don't leave uneaten food unattended as the birds will be at your plate.
Drifters beach restaurant serves buffet food and is hit and miss. On the whole ok for lunch.

The service from the staff is what could have made a real difference to the holiday. I would say 5 out of the 30 or so staff that we encountered were approachable and seemed happy to help. The rest all need serious training on Customer service skills. To me they didn't seem like they wanted to be there and gave off a bad vibe. They don't know how to deal with complaints, small gestures can turn a situation around.

The beach strip is long, but the bit for savannah hotel specifically is a bit cramped, and at about 3.30-4.30 near the kitchen area of the beach, there was a nasty sewage smell everyday. The beach staff for the loungers were really helpful though. Make sure you get some protective footwear for when you go in the sea, as it is very pebbly and rocky underfoot.

The room size is ok for a couple. The bed is big and the room size is ok. Decor is a bit dated, especially the bathrooms. Our bed was a bit uncomfortable also.

When we complained about our room, they did offer to move us, but we only had two nights left. I believe they only had smaller rooms to offer us. But when it came to check out they still charged us for the 2 bottles of water we had. It would have been a nice gesture to waive this at least! This is where I think they do all need serious training in customer service. It would make the hotel ok then.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for taking the time to share your review with us. It is feedback like this that allows us to identify and address any shortfalls in our service delivery. We apologize for any inconvenience caused and for the leak in your room upon arrival. We sincerely regret that this would have ruined your Christmas Eve night with us and left a less than favorable impression of our property. After a long day of travelling we can definitely understand how frustrating and upsetting this would have been. We are glad that a housekeeper was able to assist you in getting settled into your room, however, we will look into why the reception wasn't more helpful or did not provide additional alternatives to help you get comfortable. It is always our intention to make sure that we create fond memories every day of our guests' vacation; from the moment they arrive all the way up to the last second they depart the hotel. Be assured that every concern you expressed will be thoroughly looked into to prevent any reoccurence in the future. We appreciate you rating us 3 out of 5 stars despite the dissatisfation you expressed in certain areas. Although we understand and acknowledge your dismay with some aspects of your stay, we hope, that the areas which you enjoyed would be suffice to give us another opportunity to regain your confidence and provide the ultimate experience to you in the near future.

“Just Enjoy”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 27, 2012

We stayed here the first two weeks in December and decided to upgrade to the sea view suite.. These rooms are two story with the living area downstairs and the bedroom upstairs the rooms were kept spotlessly clean for the duration of our stay. There are two places to have your meals breakfast is at Rachels and lunch is at drifters for your evening meal you can use drifters or the al-a-carte. The al-a-carte has a varied menu which was superbly cooked and beautifully presented by the ever attentive staff. the evening meal at drifters was buffet style and again the selection was varied and Delicious. Some people have previously commented that some staff were less than helpful and moody we found that if you make the effort to talk to them they are very warm and have a wicked sense of humour. Bear in mind the staff are having to deal with all kinds of guests some less helpful than others and still maintain a professional demeanor. To sum up our holiday at the savanah yes it could do with a lick of paint in places and have a better beach but the location the food the staff more than make up for this. If you want perfection there are plenty of hotels on this beautiful island that will accommodate you but at a price. This hotel provide a great package for a very reasonable price don't go with any pre conceived ideas just go and enjoy. One last thing we hired a car for the day and covered the whole island in the day. There are so many things to see to many to mention just ask the rep and they will point out the places of interest.

Hi Angie,

Thank you for taking the time to share the details of your memorable experience with us. We were happy to have you home again with us! Just so you know, we no longer consider you as one of our guests, but part of the Savannah Beach family. “Check in and chill out!...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 23, 2012

Firstly, I only write a review when I've got something relevant to say so please read. If you're looking for a impressive looking sprawling mass of a hotel with 8 restaurants, 16 bars, 55 choices for dinner and total perfection then you don't want to be at the Savannah. The Savannah Beach is a unique, welcoming, friendly hotel with a historical, personal and almost homely feel. All the staff (including management) make a huge contribution to the welcoming feel of this beautiful hotel and this will be a major factor in the enjoyment of your holiday. Ok so you've read about the beach - these are not rocks but a coral reef so it can't just be 'moved' - accept it for what it is and if you feel that's not enough take advantage of the hotels shuttle bus to the nearby (3 minutes drive or 15/20 minute walk) Carlisle Bay beach which is one of the most pristine beaches you'll ever see. Savannah provide a really nice freshly packed lunch or there is food available (extra charge) at the Copacabana Beach Bar on the beach, drinks are still included as part of your All Inclusive package at the beach. Lots of boat trips are available from this beach to snorkel over wrecks & swim with turtles, cost around $20 (US $) per person for about an hour. Food at the Savannah is very good quality in both Rachels restaurant (Al la Carte) and Drifters Beach Bar & Grill. The buffet in Drifters is usually themed with a choice of about 7/8 dishes which are always good quality, hot & fresh. If you book with Virgin, they add some good touches to make your holiday a little more enjoyable such as their check in and chill out service and no boring welcome meetings! Their Rep Donna is local and has all the knowledge you need about the island. Barbados is a beautiful island, small with lots of history, the locals are lovely - so friendly.
In response to the previous review to this - you need to get out in the sun, be looked after by the lovely Savannah staff and don't spoil your well earned holiday moaning on Trip Advisor (with the free hotel wi-fi) on your first day!

Room Tip: Ask for your preference - all depends whether you'd like to be near the beach or restaurant as b...
