stayed at matina for a week and have to say it was absolutely brilliant! pefkos all round is just a great area espesh with young kids!! :-)
EATING - over the course of the week we only ate in the on site restuarant once and we found the service quick, easy and friendly! we often ate in people bar for breakfast and lunch..the service was VERY quick and costas was always there with a smile on his face cracking jokes :-) he is very good with kids and i know my young ones loved him!! x we only ate in matina snack bar once or twice round at the old pool but the service in here was much the same, quick easy and friendly!!
LOCATION - matina is in a great location, so quick to the beach and also not far away from main restuants, nitelife shops etc! :-) surrounding the matina (including on-site) supermarkets, matina's 2 snack bars, ice cream bar, travel agents, hair salon, resturants (inc meltemi), and oasis pool and snack bar - much reccommended, fast efficent service and a lovely pool!! :-)
ROOMS - we stayed in the new block which was lovely and we had a brilliant view over the whole of matina!, the beds were comfy and the pillows are the puffiest pillows ever!! (where can i get some?!), as most of you already know the new blocks would be blocks 8 and 9 - overlooking the new pool ("bridge pool"), and people snack bar :-). all rooms are equipped with basic kitchen equipment, a nice, modern bathroom (be warned - the light in the bathroom makes you look tanner than you actually are, trick of the light i say!! thought i was all sun kissed then left the bathroom and looked like a milk bottle :-(), and a large balcony! :-) as we were overlooking people bar we did infact here the music and entertainment however this did not go on very late at night and once the door was closed you couldnt hear anything, so the doors are very sound proof! i know for a fact that music was turned down at midnite and karaoke etc didnt go on past midnite so i dont know why there are noise complaints. i think the noise of entertainment music etc was quite a conveinience as whenever our kids were tired and wanted to go to bed early we could still sit on the balcony and listen to the entertainment :-)
POOLS/SUNBEDS - new pool - new pool is the pool with a little bridge which my kids used to love running over and jumping off from the island in the middle, the new pool is great as it is quite shallow around one end which means the kids can use this as well as the baby pool with a little mushroom and slide :-), it also gets deep so you can go have a proper swim!! pool was mostly clean however there was a lot of rubbish left around the poolside and i know this is not the fault of the matina's as the matina obviously dont leave rubbish by the pool on purpose, its guests so could i please ask guests to USE THE BINS!! that are scattered frequently throughout the WHOLE complex!! :-)
if im honest i would have to say that sunbeds around the new pool are a bit of a problem, there is way too many towels left on sunbeds with people not there and there is more sunbeds with towels on them than there was sunbeds with people on them.. i know matina say that they lift these towels at 12pm if there is no beds but i didnt see this happen once over the week , and i know there was no beds as we had to go to beach or kelari etc.. some people were even claiming two beds with 1 towel!! cheek of it!! another problem would have to be is when people steal one sun bed from the pairs they are put in however this is understandable for a family of 3, its just frustrating sometimes!! :-( i would stay that it is definitely time for matina to step in and put all towels on one sunbed in a pile for people to claim, as when there are no beds available it may be a bit off-putting for first timers!! :-( people claiming beds as early as 8am, just not on is it :-(
at night, the pool area was well looked after and there was someone going round to fix all sunbeds back in order, lift rubbish empty bins etc so this was nice to see that it was being taken care off :-) we also watched the pool being cleaned and chemicals put in so that was nice to see :-)
"old" pool - the old pool usually has a few beds available by mid day however i would prefare the new pool, but sometimes we had to go round to the old pool as we couldnt get beds. the old pool has a new kids pool that has just opened - i think ??? - however it was quite far away from the main pool and it was very basic compared to the new baby pool!! the pool area was also well looked after and people usually stayed round this pool til quite late in the evening :-) the only problem i would have with this pool is that it seemed to be quite discoloured?? it was a slight green colour and i know that a few people noticed this as you would hear them talking about it! it was only mainly green at the deep end and the shallow was nice and blue.. i know that the pool was having chlorine pumped in to it regularily however it was a little off putting to see it greenish and i had overheard conversations at oasis, kelari etc of people leaving that pool and going to oasis kelari due to this :-( however i do know that most people did not find this off putting as there was always plenty of people in the pool :-)
STAFF - staff are sooooooo lovely and would do anything to help u!! always have time to stop and chat and a lot of them remember your name etc so its a flattering when you are rememebered even from previous years :-), they are extremely helpful when you are locked out (silly me)) and we met a family who were worrying about taxi transfers to airport due to strikes but it turned out matina arranged transport for them, so like i said they would do anything to help you!! :-)
MAIDS - maids cleaned thoroughly however under the beds could do with an extra little sweep as we had cobways and a small spider however this caused my kids to go mental screaming over this small spider!! lol!!, maids come quite early so you need to make sure you are up and out :-), we had one day when the maid didnt come however this may be due to the fact our door was locked?? and we had another day when the maid didnt make mine & my husbands beds, just the kids - ??? - !! we had another day when we werent given towels however foned reception and they sent some up :-) the maid we had was very friendly and sweet, she always gave us a big smile and would talk away telling us to enjoy our day :-) very sweet!! i wouldnt fault the cleaning due to a couple of unmade beds and missing towels as everybodys human and we all make mistakes!
overall we had an amazing time at the matina and all the staff are the lovelist bunch of people ever, the facilities are great including the games room witharcade games and also computers in reception, you could buy wifi or use the laundry room and both bars featured pool tables :-) we will definitely be back to the matina and dont let little slip-ups or dodgy reviews but your chances of visiting the matina down, i can guarantee you you will love it and even if you dont make sure the staff know what made you not enjoy your holiday and it will definitely be fixed immediately :-)
big love to all staff at matina see u soon, enjoy the sun cus scotlands certainly isnt sunny!! xx

Thank you for taking the time to post your review. It's brilliant to hear of our guests enjoying their stay with us to the maximum.
Please note, that since your stay and now the hotel is at full capacity, we are taking action with regards to towels on sunbeds, if there are many towels but no guests, we remove the towels from once this becomes a problem.
Once again, thank you for your excellent review, we hope to see you again in the near future.
