We stayed at the Stella for 2 weeks late Sept. to early October. The apartment was huge in comparison with some others we have stayed in in Greece. It was well furnished and everything looked new. The small kitchen was so well equipped - it had everything you needed if you wanted to cook an evening meal. Having a microwave was a great bonus and one of the reasons we chose Stella. The bathroom was huge and to have a bath ... wonderful! There was constant (extremely) hot water and the shower was very powerful. Having two (yes, two) sets of patio doors to our studio was also a plus. The friendly and efficient maids changed the bed linen and towels every two days (except Sundays) and emptied the bins daily.
Stella was there to meet us when we arrived, despite it being 10 pm as she seems to be for every guest. We asked for a high, quiet room not directly overlooking the pool, which is what we got. There didn't seem to be a problem with sunbeds while we were there - there were always a lot spare. We aren't pool lovers, so didn't use the pool, but it looked well maintained and clean. The whole complex was clean and well-maintained and when we reported a fault with our bathroom window the "maintenance man" was there within the hour (our fault - couldn't figure out how to open it!). It was good to be able to leave our bathroom and patio doors open at night to keep cool, though we never found it hot enough to need air-conditioning.
We have been to several Greek islands and this apartment was by far the most generous and best equipped we have had and in fact (apart from in Portugal) we think it was the best apartment we have had anywhere in the Mediterranean.
A bonus (to us anyway) there was no night-time/pool bar entertainment to keep us awake at night at Stella. There are plenty of places in the main street of Pefkos where you can go if you want to party into the early hours.
We did not try the restaurants as we did entirely self-cater, but the restaurants looked well-patronised, despite it being late in the season. The Pefkos supermarkets were good for snack-buying, but for more serious food shopping there are two butchers in Lardos (10 mins on the bus), plus fishmonger and two small supermarkets with "deli" counters. Everything in the Pefkos mini-markets was pre-packed so rather expensive. Milk, cheese and bread were quite expensive compared to the UK, but we find that on islands this is often the case.
Stella is so conveniently positioned in Pefkos - right in the centre with the taxi rank opposite and supermarkets (including Stella's own) right there or close by. The local buses are good, but car hire might be better to explore more of the island, especially if you are staying for a fortnight like we were. We ran out of things to do by the end of the time because we didn't hire a car and had done all the walks around Pefkos.
If we have to find any criticism of the Stella Hotel is that, as non-smokers, it would have been good to have had at least one non-smoking block of apartments. We found in the first week that we had what appeared to be a chain-smoker on the next balcony to us who seemed to spend days and nights out there with the smoke wafting our way and getting into the apartment.
All in all, a wonderful holiday at a super "aparthotel" which we would recommend wholeheartedly. While we were in Pefkos we naturally wandered around and looked at other hotels which we had seen in holiday brochures and concluded that we had picked by far the best.
Not giving any secrets away!!
