“Two excellent meals at Osteria del Caranbar, Stia, Tuscany, Italy”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 18, 2012

We have just returned from six days in Tuscany and were most fortunate to meet a Scottish gentleman and his German wife living and running a business north of Arezzo. I asked them for a restaurant recommendation in Stia and they recommended the Caranbar with no hesitation, saying that it had some of the best food in all of Italy. We certainly agreed. You will be very well looked after by Massimo and his staff. The food was marvellous, also the wine. Massimo's mother is the gifted chef and every item on the menu is prepared with love by somebody who understands the pleasure good food gives. We hope that we may return and would highly recommend anyone to have a meal with them.

“A Great Choice”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 8, 2012 via mobile

Spent a week in the area and had the pleasure to dine at Caranbar twice. Great food at a reasonable price. The recommended house wine was good but check out the wine list - a super selection. Massimo did a fine job and was able to prepare what my kids wanted (outside the menu). At the end of our dinner Massimo offered us a drink on the house which was a delicate Ron Millionaire. All in all a fantastic experience.

“FABULOUS FOOD”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 21, 2012

Caranbar is a five star winner! We had lunch there last year and returned to find it just as stunning as it was the first time. The food is terrific, served perfectly in an immaculately clean, well decorated restaurant. It offers upscale dining without pretension at an exceptionally reasonable price. Every dish (we ordered fifteen different dishes among five diners) was a knock-out. The veal in chianti, the beetroot risotto, hand-made ravioli and beef tartare were all first class and the caramelized fruit tart made us certain that we will return at least once more. The charming owner makes everything hum along and his house wine is delicious. Don' miss this gem if you can possibly find a way to get there!

“A great dining experience in Stia.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 18, 2012 via mobile

We went for an early dinner before a fun concert of Italian Army Jazz band. The timing was perfect, nothing rushed but pleasantly timed to start off a fun evening. Good wine selection with lots of excellent choices but you cannot go wrong with the house wine which is a really lovely and very well priced Rosso di Montalcino.
My husband started with the crepes normally stuffed with pecorino which he doesnt care for but was happy to be offered and receive a substitute of gorgonzola which he really prefers and it was delicious, as was my salad. I appreciate the choice of serving dishes, the salad bowl was modern and visually pleasing but importantly a good depth and shape to enjoy the food rather then fighting chasing tiny pieces across a flat dish as often happens. I think very often a kitchen will choose cutlery and dishes strictly on the aesthetics and disregard practicality but for me these small attention to all details add to a good experience. Stia area is known for the patate tortelli and we both enjoyed this dish very much. The dinner was beautifully presented and delicious Service was friendly gracious accommodating and we will definitel return.

“what a great meal!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 7, 2012

We stopped into Caranbar for lunch and it was simply amazing. We usually make a point of finding a nice restaurant for dinner because, you know, it's Italy and we're on vacation and we don't want to waste time on something that's just ordinary, but for lunch we'll usually just find something convenient. Caranbar was so much more than we were expecting. Each of us ordered a different pasta, but the two that I enjoyed the most were my Strozzapreti al Pesto and my friend's Pici alla Carbonara. These are simple dishes but very well prepared and for me it was my first time trying pici which is like a very thick spagetti. We were waited on by Massimo, who was very helpful with explanations of the menu and the wine he suggested was wonderful. If you're in the area, you won't be disappointed. Caranbar will definitely be a dining destination the next time we're in Italy.
