Me and my brother stayed here after a trip to Kili. Hotel has a very nice layout with little lodges dotted around. A very nice pool and is actually on the beach front. The beach is very nice, there is some seaweed but this is actually the better part as we had a walk up and down for quite a way.
When this hotel was opened up in 1994 it would have been amazing. However by now, the places is becoming run down and needs good investment to bring it back up to grade. The tired furniture is quite rustic but a lot of the sun lounge mattresses are torn, the walls have plaster falling off and there is a lot of general wear and tear. The pool is still excellent and well maintained.
The rooms are well sized but quite dark. The beds are okay but the bedding is not very good at all. The rooms have no TV, no fridge, no AC but do have fans and mosquito nets. The bathroom was generally ok in appearance/cleanliness but the shower was just a trickle and the taps were very rusty. The hotel uses salty water which no doubt contributes to the rapid corrosion of the metalwork. I did point this out to the hotel manager who said they change the taps every year but they just rust through very quickly. This maybe true as by the time I got home 3 days later, my razor blade was very rusty!
The restaurant at the hotel is good. Breakfast is included and it's usually fresh juice, toast, fruit and eggs in a variety of choices (scrambled, boiled, spanish, etc). The rest of the meals were actually very very good. All very good portions, well cooked, well presented and tasted amazing. I tried seafood mostly so the lobster, tuna, kingfisher and seafood platter were very good quality. The waiting was good also. The staff are friendly but have the tendancy to try to make their own offers to you to make some money on the side.
The hotel has wifi free too which was a godsend as some of the more expensive hotels charge for this. It was a good speed too but didn't extend to my room (it's mostly around the restaurant area).
The mood and atmosphere is very relaxed at this place and it surely is a nice and quiet place. The hammocks on the beach are great to just wind down on.
I would love for the owner to spend some money and renovate the place, put new bedding/curtains etc in and give the place a good once over, it would then be a wonderful rustic hotel like it once would have been.
