Spent 5 wonderful days on short notice in this splendid, little "family resort".
One has not to forget, that this is Africa, but beside that the whole team, some more, some less, try to add a very personal touch to the Uroa experience. It starts with complementary Welcome drinks, fruit skewers offered at the pool, theme buffets and invitations at the bar by the Italian owner, which, depending on yourselve, can end late.

The whole resort was in my opinion the best at Uroa beach, because of its small scale, compared to the neighbours, max. 5. rooms per bungalow. Rooms clean, with an extra touch as flowers or little letters.

The pool is clean and great for real swimming.

The food preperation is ambitious, my advise, beside the wonderful spaghetti all aglio e olio, leave the beef, go for the fish!

Beer 3.-, buffet 15.- (always a better deal as the a la card menues), coffee 1.-, water free with the menue, nice SA wine list from 12.- to 25.-, house wine at 3.- per glass.


On the evenings quite proffessional shows, like acrobats or bands.

We checked out most of the hotels on Zanzibar and found Uroa Bay Beach Resort the best quality for what you pay for in comparison to other hotels. Management and staff do their utmost best to keep your stay as pleasant possible. Most visitors are Italian so if you are in to good Italian food this place is not bad.

Only advice for hotel management is to train their staff a bit better. At the end of your stay expect staff to be like vultures expecting a tip. Furthernore fluency of English must be improved as most of the staff is not able to communicate properly.

Also watch out for the beach boys. They stay a long the beach in front of the hotel. Sometimes they are a nucence but than again this is typical of Zanzibar.

In general a fine hotel which needs some slight improvements but I might consider coming back again.

Beautiful hotel with a lovely pool and gardens. Cannot fault the facilities at all. Appreciated the tea and coffee station in the room, replenished daily. The tap water is briney, so use bottled water. The staff are great, very friendly, and we enjoyed dancing to the band one evening. Excellent band, the best I’ve ever heard at a beach resort. The food is good, and we really enjoyed the buffet breakfasts and dinners. Good value overall.

My two friends and I stayed here for a week in August. We had a lovely triple room - a real triple, not a double room with an extra bed. It was clean and in good condition. The grounds of the hotel are absolutely beautiful, as is the pool area. The staff were really friendly, helpful, and effective - especially the manager who was very helpful when we had problems with our hired jeep. They understand the importance of little touches to make you feel welcome - such as a welcome drink, arranging mosquito nets and spraying the room at night.
I'd agree with those who say the food lets the hotel down a bit. It was just a bit erratic - sometimes very nice, and sometimes bland or bizarre!
However, despite the food, I'd definitely really recommend the hotel, which was an absolutely lovely place to kick back and relax.
