The Bahamas Hotel offers basic clean compact rooms within easy walking distance of Kos Harbour. There isn’t a lift, so you will have to manage your luggage upstairs yourself. The pool area has plenty of sunbeds and shade. You have to pay for any extras, including air conditioning at €45 and safety deposit box at €13 per week, plus limited sun mattresses at €1 per day, but then I think this is standard throughout most hotels. We had one breakfast at the Bahamas and then opted to walk to the harbour each day, but the poolside bar has very good snacks for lunch, drinks and ice creams.
Both Billy and Costas introduce themselves and are perfectly welcoming and everyone gets to know Mary. The Bahamas has Quiz, Bingo, Barbecue and Karaoke nights, so you can do as little or as much as you like with your fellow residents. It is a bit like home from home and Thomson appears to have exclusivity to the hotel. We noticed on our transfer to the airport that residents from other hotels, like the Poseidon are helped out with their luggage and are waved off by the staff and owners, so I think that the friendly atmosphere at the Bahamas is helped enormously by the people that stay there.
There are some super restaurants in Kos, the travel rep will recommend getting to the harbour via the petrol garage. If you take this road down to the dolphin roundabout you will see Mummys Kitchen on the right quite a way down. The son of the owner asked us what food we liked and then his mother produced the most delicious authentic Greek home cooking at very reasonable prices. Also, Zorba in the Old Town is another popular choice. Finally for something a little pricier and romantic, look for Petrino, the Garden Restaurant.
If I came back to Kos I would definitely consider returning to the Bahamas.
