“Tired, outdated”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 21, 2014

The bed was clean, which is about the best thing I can say. The bed was old, tired and saggy, much like the rest of the hotel. The curtains in the room hung over the velux window like an enormous hammock, the shower was rubbish and the 'spa' bath was out of order. All together very dated and in need of a serious revamp

I was here for a meeting and decided to stay the night rather than trek a load of miles back up the road to the Travelodge I'd been in for a few nights.
This is a big hotel, and unfortunately it's difficult for a big place to impress unless it's really good.
The Cedar Court certainly isn't bad, but the room smells badly of bleach, and the bed had had a few too many good nights and now it's rather tired itself. A tired bed usually leads to a tired guest.
The advantage over the Travelodge is that there was uninspiring food available on site.
The disadvantage is that it's more than twice the price and the bed is nowhere near as comfortable.
I can see the problem though. Sites like this one , and in particular the ones like Late Rooms, have forced so many hotels to cut their prices to the degree that they can no longer afford the millions it would cost to refurbish it and make it stand out.

Dear lord-tregiffian
Thank you for the feedback.
Obviosuly we didnt do enough to impress but your feedback is balanced and constructive. We continue our refurbishment programme with a project on the ground floor this year, and we hope to be able to complete some more bedrooms later in the year.
If you are in the area again, do consider us and keep up to date with whats happening with our programme on line.
Kind regards

We stayed here on Friday 3rd January as part of works christmas do (they hired out a room). The meal we had in the party was good, we had soup for staters, cavery for main (not much to rave about) and white chocolate and berry delice for dessert. We had a free bar and a DJ. Good atmosphere.
The room we had was nice, a large double bed, flat sreen freview TV, Tea and coffee facitlites, shower/bath, hairdryer - which was cold did not warm up, luckily i brought my own. The breakfast the next day was lovely, continetal and warm breakfast both served buffet style - lovely. We paid £50.10 for the room and would stay again.

We stayed here on NYE with friends for the DB&B event in the Brasserie. My friend text me earlier as she had arrived to say that she thought she was on the set of Cocoon and believe me we are not youngsters!
Luckily we made the most of it as the event itself was very well run and organised, the room was trimmed up very well with lots of NYE party kit. The food was very good as were the majority of the staff. There were lots of nice touches and we felt it was value for money. Most were in good spirits and we had a laugh with a number of people there so this didn't spoli it for us at all. Dance floor very small and DJ needed to update his tunes but despite this we had a good night.
The room we stayed in 305 was a completely different story, luckily we viewed it as just somewhere to lay our heads for one night. Very very dated and tired....
Bathroom wasn't fully functional, whirlpool bath out of order, it was a challenge to flush the toilet. There were two holes in the bedroom walls, curtains that didn't close properly over a velux window and a bed where you met in the middle due to the dip!!
I am not sure where the photos online are from but they are not from this hotel.
Our friends had pretty much the same experience but again we saw it for what it was and made the most of our NYE.
BUT I must end on a positive as we did enjoy our stay and as I said were happy with the event on the whole.

Pleasant checkin and friendly staff but everything else about this hotel screams motel. Very large bar/ lobby area but every time I have stayed here it is too cold to have a bar meal or drink there. This is either due to the doors to the outside constantly sliding open or the air con set to freezing.
The room was large but bland, dated and utilitarian. Room 124 was however very quiet.
The gym was a disappointment. Very small and the Concept 2 rower is knackered and clearly hasn't been serviced in a long time (the chain won't retract properly). When I pointed this out to the staff the girl just shrugged and said 'it's old'.
Breakfast was okay but no bananas which seems a bit random.

Dear JeremyHeaven
Thank you for positng your feedback and I do hope that the refurbishment works planned for our ground floor this year are able to address the 'screamed motel' impression you have of Cedar Court Hotel.
Next time you are in the area we do hope you will consider us.

My wife and I stayed for one night , New Year's Eve, £240 for the both of us. We have been to a few tribute nights at this hotel before but as we had seen the this tribute act before we decided to go to the dinner and DJ event in the restaurant . We got there at about 2.00pm , checked in but could not get a seat in reception for a drink as it was full and there were no seats, there was a table with drinks on it which had room for about 6 people with no one at it, it was like this for about an hour, someone saving seats, a disgrace. Our room was very nice, nice bed, flat screen tv but bathroom had hairs over it, needed a proper clean. I have got to say the food was excellent and the DJ was very good. Staff were very helpful and service was good. We ended up stuck behind a big pillar so could not see the small dance floor but it was ok. Overall a very good night but I would suggest before anyone books this event for next year that this attracts older cliental there was hardly anyone of our age , but a few nice people who actually spoke to us. Very clickish groups.

Room Tip: Standard room was fine.

My partner and I stayed at the Cedar Court Hotel in Wakefield on New Years Eve 2013. Although the hotel was clean it was in dier need of refurbishment when we walked into our standard double room it was like walking in to a time warp, we did not eat at the restaurant but we did use the gym/ pool facilities they were rather small and crampt and a lot of the gym equipment was rusting.
