Oct 29, 2007 | Trip type: Family

I booked two double executive rooms at this hotel for £42.50 per room per night - I could have booked a standard room for £35 per night.

The rooms were excellent value - we suffered no outside nosie and little noise from people using the corridor.

the room offered king size bed, desk to work on, chairs, ample drawer and hanging space, safe, iron, coffee making facilities - as a bonus robe, free bottled water, chocolates , wine and fruit (some of which came because we were staying in an executive room and some because I am a Holiday Inn Priority Club member)

The hotel is very clean, parking is free, and Leeds City Centre (20 mins ) and the M1 and A1 major roads are nearby/ easily accessible.

Only drawback was no lifts - my mother couldn't manage stairs and though we were allowed access via a fire escape (often used) it meant she had quite a walk to the room - I blame myself for failing to mention her mobility prior to our arrival.

As mentioned we had a very good value for rate - we booked a 2 - 4 - 1 stay via holiday inns own web site.

Aug 19, 2007 | Trip type: Business

I stayed here on business and found the hotels standards and service very disappointing. Firstly the room was small and there was an awful smell of drains whilst walking along the coridoors.

No mini bar in the room and the bar shut with several customers still in the bar area, from this point you were then expected to go to reception and ask for drinks from them (even though all drinks had been locked away).

I then arrived at my room following a business dinner (thankfully elsewhere at Hazelwood Castle) to find my bed had not been changed from the previous guest. This took over 40 minutes to rectify with the "manager" being clueless as to how to resolve the situation, even though I informed him that the bedding required changing he still turned up empty handed, he then left and returned with SINGLE bed cover (for a double bed) and then had to make a 3rd visit. Thankfully the person who helped out on the evening shift had common sense and tried to placate an exasperated individual. I have to say that the bedding is so old and creased that even the new sheets they put on my bed - at home would have been used for dust sheets!

Breakfast was poorly cooked looking something similar to those poor service stations, it wasn't increadibly warm and very disappointing. Needless to say Holiday Inn is now off my "to go" list and I'll do everything possible to stay elsewhere in future.

I stayed here for three nights, mainly to visit a friend in Garforth itself. First the positives. The hotel were very helpful and professional - especially when I kept leaving my door card in the room! There was also plenty of free parking so I didn't have to worry about that. I also have to say the bed I had was really comfortable and the room was nice and warm so it didn't take long for me to fall asleep! The gym was a bit small but has all the standard equipment and was never that busy during my stay. Don't get too excited about the pool as its very small, with a window onto the main corridor for people to look in.

On the negative side of things, I think the plumbing is a bit of suspect and I had to move from room no.4 because of a clicking sound on the pipes. The shower also liked to vary in heat! I didn't try the hotel breakfast as at £13 I thought that was too expensive. I got the impression that the plumbing side of things need an overhaul.
Although I was on my own, I still felt as though my room was quite small and I did see a twin room that didn't look that much bigger.

Location wise, if you're choosing this hotel you really need to be prepared to drive everywhere. Even Garforth itself (sorry but it's not worth more than a cursory look) is a brisk mile walk. However, at least there's free parking there. Even the railway station car park was free which meant instead of driving into Leeds I took the train. The last train from Leeds I think is 2254 and the journey is about 10 mins. There's also a 24 hour Tesco just past the railway station with a petrol station as well.

I hope I haven't been too negative about the hotel. The location is great if you like driving and as a base for exploring the countryside, which ofcourse is marvellous. I think it would most suit families and couples for that very reason.

Note: book in advance via the company website if you're interested in this hotel. I seached every website going and none could beat the company's website. My room cost £142 for three nights, whilst during my visit the hotel itself was charging £102 for one night if you just turned up.

Rooms were fine, although a little cold (it was a very cold couple of weeks when I was there) - one had a supplementary heater provided, so the hotelobviously recognised the problem. Food was good, breakfast being well-stocked with a great variety. the bar staff made a few mistakes one day, which involved me in a lengthy check-out while they were rectified. Why the guest has the double whammy of incorrect items on his bill and spending time waiting for staff to sort it was never really explained. Gym was good for a hotel, and pool too - nice. Got a few extras in the room - wine, chocs, robe, water - which was nice, as was the pretty thong left for me!! (But I guess that wasn't intentional.

The location is a bit out of the way, but good road access and easy to get into Leeds if you wnat.

Just got back from a lovely weekend away in Leeds, staying at the Holiday Inn at Garforth.
I must say I was a little apprehensive when I read the reviews, but it was really nice, I would definitely recommend this hotel.
The bar area and restaurant was lovely, you could not fault the food and we would definitely stay here again.
