Thank you for the review! We already have the biggest boat in the Gansbaai shark diving industry, but it's not about how big the boat is, it's about the experience, education and safety of our guests. We are very lucky to be able to work on such an incredible vessel. It's safe, stable, great for viewing the sharks, 2 clean toilets onboard and last but not least, it's comfortable. We have some beautiful pictures of Slash Fin (our boat) on our website @ www.sharkwatchsa.com. Personally, I rate Slash Fin should get at least 5 stars :).

Cheers!

“A Good trip for a "taste of jaws", but too industrialized”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 5, 2013

Marine Dynamics is probably one of the best Shark cage diving operator in Gansbaai/Kleinsbaai.
Team is very great, helpful. Material, boat and instructions are excellent. Education about white shark conservation is perfect !

My only concern is about the general big show to attract shark and the parade to go in the cage.

8 people by cage x 3 dive = 24 people mini on the boat (and it is one of smallest delegation among Gansbaai operators). It is a little bit stressful.

Unfortunately, I went the last in the cage. With the time was very short, with big wave and dark water, I did not see the incredible White Shark from the cage.

Hopefully, from the boat you can watch very well sharks.

Few days after, I enjoyed a shark cage diving in False bay with African Shark Eco Charter and it was very very excellent ! 2 people max in the cage and with AIR... you definitively can observe attentively the great predator in the best conditions.

Thank you for the review. Seems you didn't have the best day with limited visibility. We have had a tough winter with lots of storms and days off sea, working in various conditions has its challenges. Our cage is specifically designed for comfort and best viewing. We have 2 platforms from which our staff works to ensure our clients have an optimal viewing experience. By choosing Marine Dynamics you help support our conservation efforts. We donate more than a R1 million per annum to research and conservation. Thus, your choice makes a difference. Sadly, we would not be able to pursue such conservation efforts and research with a 2 man cage... Do visit again and hopefully next time you'll have flat and clear seas.

Kind regards,
Sanchia

“Incredible Experience!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 31, 2013

We had an amazing day out, and were impressed with the whole experience. We booked online easily, and were called the day before with our pickup time, which they decide only the day prior based on tide and conditions. We were picked up at exactly 4.05am, as scheduled, and drove for around 2-2.5 hours to Gansbaai, with a much needed coffee stop. I had trouble with my credit card working, and the staff were very helpful and understanding, letting me use their Internet and phone to sort it out,
Breakfast was delicious, and we were briefed then taken to the boat. I recommend you wear your swimsuit under your clothes, as you'll be changing into your wetsuit on the boat when you are anchored out at the dive spot. The dive was fantastic, we had some amazing shark sightings, and they ensure everyone gets similar sightings, rather than having a designated period of time in the cage. The ecologist on board was very knowledgable and interesting, although we did find we had to ask questions rather than being presented with information, so don't be shy!
Hot chocolate immediately followed the dive, as well as hot soup back on land to help warm up. I would also suggest bringing your own towel, they seem to only have one per person and if you get a chance at a second dive, you're out of luck for getting dry!
All in all, it's an amazing trip! The actual dive is just out of this world, but even those not interested in diving get incredible views of the sharks from the boat.

“Great White sharks are amazing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 28, 2013

This operator was truly amazing. their expertise and helpfulness stood out. They were very calm, explained things fully and were very patient. They knew exactly what they were doing and did not over sensationalise the trip, calmly telling us that 5- 10 people a year are killed worldwide by sharks, yet 400 are killed by toasters! They said the most dangerous thing we would do today was drive here.

The weather had been so bad that they had not been out for a week and so did not know where the sharks currently were. There were many boats from other companies, out looking for sharks and only 2 had been seen in the distance by that mornings boats.

Marine Dynamics used their experience and expertise and did not follow the crowd. Yes we did wait for 90 minutes for our first Great White Shark but it was worth every minute. I even managed to get some world bird lifers whilst waiting e.g. Southern Giant Petrel, Shy Albatross, Antarctic Skua and even a Jackass Penguin.

When the first Shark came it was amazing, right up to the boat and people were soon clambering into the Shark cage, 8 at a time. Each person had plenty of time and saw the Great White Sharks almost nose to nose. We were not rushed and everyone could watch them if they wanted to. I must admit you got better pictures from the top, than in the cage but the thrill of seeing one of these amazing creatures so close. I was even allowed to go into the cage twice1. People did complain about how cold the water was but coming from the UK it was positively warm at around 14C.

We had 40 people on board but with plenty of space. The views were excellent and I certainly would recommend going right on top and on the boats right hand side as that is where the cage is and that is the side the sharks will come from.

We saw 7 Great White Sharks that morning and all very close up, which was especially good, considering how many the other boats had seen. I spoke to the excellent and knowledgeable guide who spotted everything way before me! He said in 5 years they had only missed out on sharks twice. An average trip sees 4-5 sharks, so we did well but a really good trip can see around 15+

I would warn people that the swell can be uncomfortable, to me it seemed quite calm where they anchored and my son who is never sea sick on rough seas was sick here. It was to do with the motion of the boat, rather than the roughness of the sea. He was well looked after and even managed to get into the Shark cage to view some amazing close ups of the Great White Sharks.

The food before and after the trip was very good, the talks were also interesting, informative and not too long. You can also purchase a DVD of trip for around 100 rand, around 15 rand to the pound, currently.

The company is also very environmentally concerned and sponsors several environmental and educational organisations. we so impressed with their concerns that we donated some money to help preserving this endangered species.

It was very expensive per person but it was the going rate and the service was excellent, it was an amazing end to our 4 week stay in South Africa and it was worth every Rand.

Only 2 hours later we were in Cape Town airport, ready to fly back. Be warned they start around 9.00a.m. and finish about 2.00 p.m.

Thank you for taking the time to write this great descriptive review and for the awesome images too! We take great pride in the work we do concerning our environment and wildlife. It warms my heart to hear that our clients care for the environment as much as we do, so I thank you for your donation! A big percentage of your booking fee's also goes directly to funding the research projects we run here eg. Great White Shark research. For more information on our research projects, check out www.dict.org.za . As for our birders out there, be sure to bring your binoculars as we have an abundance of bird species living on the island and visiting our waters.

Kind regards,
Sanchia
