“Hip Hostel, Mediocre Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 18, 2013

My boyfriend and I went to Barcelona for a music festival and found the Cool & Chic Hostel. It is an incredibly hip, clean, modern and great place. They have a full kitchen, a living room with movies, and much more. The rooms are simple but you can get private rooms. The bathrooms are well maintained and clean. All of the staff speak excellent English and are incredibly accommodating. The staff was also very well versed in everything to do in Barcelona and extremely helpful. WARNING though. There is a subway station really close to the Hostel, but there is basically nothing but a residential area around the hostel. You will have to be willing to take the subway to get anywhere.

This was the first place I booked when I got to Europe, which was fortunate because it's a convenient short distance from the airport subway station. It's a *little* farther flung from locations near the beach and La Rambla, though, which is only an issue if you're out after the trains stop. The area wasn't bad, but it was a bit hard vectoring in on the property on first arrival after dark. It's an easy walk to/from the Metro regardless, once you know where you're going.

The facilities were excellent, thoroughly clean and well-maintained. Basic but nice kitchen, nice common area conducive to socializing, and the rooms were quiet. The staff were exceptionally helpful and genuinely friendly, very knowledgeable about the area. Often I'd have pleasant conversations with the staff who were around during the graveyard shift; they were eager to hear about travel plans and offer suggestions.

Aside from the location being just a bit less than ideal, there's really nothing but good things to say about Cool & Chic. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone stopping in Barcelona.

his is my honest opinion of the place.
location: 2 min walk from metro called collblanc - blue line. A bit far from the city centre
customer service: very helpful
cleanness: place was clean and tidy.
bathrooms: Only 3 showers and 2 toilets to use
Dorm room: has huge lockers with a key and the room was big. On the last day, I had bed bugs, all bitten on me.
extras: 1 computer you had to pay to use as well as WIFI was fast and only avaiable at the front. The kitchen was complete with stove and fridge. All cooking essentials available.
Noisy: very quite,
Breakout area: near the kitchen, decent size
Suggestions: more toilets and free PC

I loved this hostel!!!! Rooms, amenities, and service were all excellent. Friendly staff (many of who were cute too!!!!) We shared a bathroom and was impressed on how clean they were. I would definitely stay in this hostel for my next visit in Barcelona.

3/5 from me here is why..

NOTE I stayed for 1 week so I think got a good feel for the place in a 2x single room (but have some info on dorms as got on with the girls there).
I stayed with my boyfriend- we are in our 20s.

PROS:

1. VERY VERY VERY clean bathrooms, kitchen, social living area. I don't usually like having a shared bathroom but it was nicer than most private ones! 2 toilets, 2 showers- never had an issue with having to wait for one.

2. QUIET, good sound proofing, no traffic heard.

3. Staff on call 24/7.

4. Dark rooms + quiet meant for a good sleep in WHEN IT WASNT STEAAAMING HOT AKA NO SLEEP...read on...

CONS:

1. Service was 50:50 there are about 4 guys that rotate shifts and 2 of them are super helpfull for sight seeing etc and really friendly however the other 2 were pretty b rate.

2. THE AIR CON IS NEVER ON IN LIVING AREAS- I always had to ask, and often would come back 15 min later and it was switched off again, so it was ridiculously hot. there are 3 air cons in the living areas and i saw them on twice in 7 day/nights!!! (when i kind of demanded it- at the request of everyone else around me!)

THE AIR CON DIDNT WORK IN OUR ROOM which we paid for. this was pretty s#$%.

On speaking to the girls RE their dorm: they had NO REMOTE for aircon and their room was way to hot to sleep in/relax in at all.

3. Bedding: Clean. sheet on base of bed, sheet as a blanket i.e. no proper blanket- dont get me wrong i didnt need one but if you are someone who lives in hot climates bear this in mind. The pillow was the size of half a normal pillow. Matress pretty average. These were all super minor but I know some people are a bit funny about bed stuff :)

NOTE ON LOCATION: although on the map it looks close to the action (gotic city (la rambla) and barceloneta (coast beaches bars etc) it is actually 4-5x stops on 1 metro line then a change of metro line and another 3-4 stops untill you get there)- Now this was FINE for me as I was staying a week so getting away from the action when i wanted was really usefull as the hot spots are super busy BUT I would reccomend, if staying only 1-3 days, to stay closer to la rambla, in catalunya or in barceloneta (close to the la rambla end). this way you can simply get up and walk to whereever you need to go. The metro location is good however- 2 minute walk from the door.

Overall this was a clean, quiet hostel. Good to stay in if you dont mind paying for nonexistent aircon and are happy being on the tube/paying for the tube everyday.

Oh final note on tube- but a T10 Pass versus day passes or single journeys, it works out far cheaper.

If travelling from airport- take the airport train to sants estasia (spellling error) then the metro line to Collblanc (the hostel is across the park opposite the McDonalds).

Two-night stay during Sonar Music Festival in a two-bed room. Air conditioning was fantastic and the hostel felt safe. Owners were extremely nice and so helpful with directions. They played a movie at 9pm every night and quiet time is 11pm. Would recommend for anyone looking for a cheap base in Barcelona. Located next to a metro stop.

Cons: situated next to a park where they sell little firecrackers that you can hear in the afternoon
