“fantastic place!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 17, 2008

I was slightly confused about where to post this review as after looking at some of the photo's and reviews for The Lodge, Habarana, this was the same hotel that we stayed at, but it was called Cinnamon Lodge.
Whatever- this is a lovely hotel - it reminded us of ancient temple grounds.Everything was tranquil , quiet and serene.
The reception area was open and airy and the accomodation is in two storey chalets in beautiful surroundings.
The hotel sits on the egde of a lake in extensive grounds where numerous creatures frequent- monkeys, monitors, birds, sqirrels etc.
Our rooms were spacious with huge beds and we could pick what sort of pillows we preferred.Robes and slippers were provided as were an ironing board and umbrellas.
The shower rooms were very modern - big walk in showers with black floor tiles and nice toiletries such as toothbrushes and lovely cinnamon toothpaste( wish I had bought some to bring home!).
On our last night the room attendant had arranged flowers to spell out 'Good Luck'.
The food was good and we especially liked the desserts. These were in a separate glass room and were presented like works of art- they tasted pretty good too.
The pool was so inviting we were sad that we only had the chance to use it once!
When we were leaving after breakfast we could hear beautiful haunting flute playing- but it wasn't 'piped' music it was a flautist palying on the balcony.
There were so many lovely extra touches to this hotel that made it our favourite during our stay in Sri Lanka.
We would love to stay here again!

We stayed here for 3 nights whilst we visited the sights of the cultural triangle. It was a lovely hotel - the food was fantastic and the staff really friendly. The pool looked great but we never had time to go in it there was so much to see! The room was very clean and spacious with lots of little extras to make you feel comfortable. The monkeys playing around in the grounds are very entertaining and watch for the cheeky squirrels trying to steal your breakfast! We went on the elephant ride next door to the hotel - this was fantastic and a must if you have time. We also visited Minneriya National Park which is very close by. This was well worth a visit and it was nice to see the elephants and other creatures in their natural habitat.

I've recently returned from Sri Lanka which included a two night stay at Cinammon Lodge. I would say this is one of if not the best hotel I have ever stayed in.
The emphasis was on sophistication and elegance. My room was spacious, beautifully furnished and immaculately clean with a large and stylish bathroom.
The actual grounds were vast and very picturesque
The bar was reasonably priced and the food - buffet style - was ample. Both are with open views of the pool and grounds.
The staff were helpful - but not overbearing - and the whole experience was very relaxing.
The hotel also had a separate spa which I tried and found to be better and much cheaper than many English beauty salons I have visited.
The location of the hotel is inland so there is no beach and I'm not sure how far away or accessible the local town would be for people travelling independently. Although, the impression I got was that most of the tourists sites such as the local Buddhist caves are usually visited by those on organised excursions.
Overall barring those looking for very lively night life I think this hotel would impress most holiday makers - young or old, single or couple. If I ever go back to Sri Lanka I would stay here.

We visited Sri Lanka in March 2008. Originally we planned to stay at another hotel close to the Cinnamon Lodge, but thanks to our travel agency (M/s. Red Dot Tours) and Trip Advisor, we changed our booking to this hotel. From the moment we entered the hotel area, the verdant green lawns, and look of casual elegance was entrancing. The check in was smooth and the staff were welcoming..The staff looked elegant in their vermillion dresses, and the smiles just made you feel welcome. The hotel is wide and spread out..most buildings are single floored or at most have 1 floor above ground level. The place is absolutely green; langurs, storks abound in the swamp neighouring the property.. We also witnessed a mongoose and something resembling an iguana ! However there seems to be peaceful coexistence all around. The room we stayed in was a Deluxe Ac room and was lovely. Well spaced, room to sit inside as well as outside in the open verandah / patio.. Lovely bed inside with a well working ac.. Excellent room service and service.. A 3-4 minutes walk to the open dining room, and an excellent spread was available. The quality & variety of food & service available was amongst the best in our experience of Sri Lanka ..The staff were quite good and helpful; I also appreciated the fact that service was quick. The dining hall overlooks the pool and then the view expands into the swamps - half a km further down.. I was worried about mosquitoes, but generally were absent. we loved just walking around the place, at our own relaxed pace. Every afternoon there was a gentle warm drizzle for approx. half an hour and this added to the magic for us - as we live in a desert.. However the rain was not too much to disturb your activities, and we saw people coming back from safari rides despite the rain..
We tried the relaxing ayurveda massage at the hotel, and would give it 6.5 out of 10.. primarily because of the above average skills of the masseuse and also becaus of the run down condition of the bathrooms at the ayurvedic pavilion.
Overall this is a fantastic retreat and I would definitely return if going back to Sri Lanka..

we have recently returned from a 18 day holiday multi centre , but by far the best part was Sri Lanka what a beautiful green lush country the cinnamon lodge been our first destination in sri lanka after flying in from Dubai the car trip was a bit long winded as the roads are not great, but the scenery from the windows is outstanding, on arrival we were greated with a cool drink and towel then shown to our room only two story high set in private grounds wow you have to see it to realise how fresh and green it all is, room was comfortable and clean nice ensuite bathroom
we went outside to have a walk in the grounds and took some photos of a monkey almost posing for us, then walked a little futher to discovery about fifty more monkeys to choose from, along with land lizards not fussed at all that you are feet way taking a photo whilst he was digging up a worm,
and the birds fanatstic couldnt tell you what they were not a bird watcher but if you are its a place to go , at the end is a lake where they keep the elephants thay you can have a trip on , not my thing i like to look, the food at the lodge was aslo very nice, plenty to choose form not just curries . i would definately return to this lodge.

We stayed here half board for three nights last month and loved it!

The hotel design is very pleasing and is set in significant grounds with some great examples of Sri Lankan plant and animal life - the trope of monkeys on our terrace were great - less sure about the large water monitor that bared my bath on the way to dinner! Our room as spacious and well equipt (hairdryer, drinks, good toiletries etc).

Pool was a good size although not best positioned for the sun – although with the cultural triangle on your doorstep I can’t imagine wanting to use the pool for anything other than a cooling dip at the end of the day!

Food on half board was also of a high quality with a good selection of pre-prepared and made to order foods - local dishes as well as more international cuisine if you find, like me, Sri Lankan curry a little on the hot side!

Only one word of warning – because of the lakes in the grounds beware mossies at dusk onwards!

Stayed here for 3 fantastic nights. The staff were friendly, rooms spacious and comfortable and the food was delicious.

the surroundings are calm and peaceful with the blocks of rooms in the grounds. There are larger 2 room blocks for families woith play areas

The hotel is a good base to visit the ancient sights of sigiriya and the elephant safari tours are right next door.
