“A pleasant surprise”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 29, 2013

Having been booked into the Sigiriya Village Hotel, I did not stay in the Cinnamon Lodge, but very much wish I had. Instead, my wife and I twice went out of our way to eat there. The hotel is set in large and pleasant grounds alongside its sister (and slightly cheaper) hotel, the Chayaa Village. Although we visited in appalling weather conditions, the establishment looked fresh and beautifully maintained; so, indeed, did the Chaaya Village The swimming pool was spectacular.

Common parts were airy and comfortable with agreeable places to sit, and with a well stocked and pleasant bar. The dining area looked equally clean and attractive. It was much enhanced by the incorporation of an open kitchen, so that customers could see food being prepared. We ate lunch in the buffet section. Although I'm not personally a fan of buffet eating (food hanging around for hours on hot plates), this was far better than most. On two successive evenings we ate in the small a la carte restaurant, which was excellent. Good quality basic ingredients had been sourced from Australia, and the chef (European trained, I believe) plainly 'knew his stuff'. His fillet steak was as good as I've eaten anywhere in fifty years of travel.

There is no avoiding the fact that The Cinnamon Lodge is in the more expensive bracket, but not that much more. Above all, it was clear that management was thoroughly professional. Staff were courteous and solicitous and, just as important, purposeful.

If I ever return to see Sigiriya again, I'll happily choose this well run and excellent hotel.

We thoroughly enjoyed out three-night stay in January at this lovely hotel and wished we could have stayed longer. The staff were friendly and made us very welcome and food served in the restaurant was superb. The Lodge is set in a beautiful location amongst the trees and beside the lake, and we particularly enjoyed watching wildlife, especially some very playful monkeys. Would return to this hotel if we come back to Sri Lanka again.

We really enjoyed our two nights at the Cinnamon Lodge. The Hotel has a very nice swimming pool with a childrens pool connected to the main pool - which was appreciated by my children. The food in the hotel is exellent. My personal favourite however was the bar. Overseeing the swimming pool area you can sit and enjoy a drink, while your kids are are playing in the water. Loved it. The only downside - the rooms. They are a little bit basic for my taste. But that didnt spoil our overall positive expererience and I sincerely recommend this place as a starting point for sightseeing trips in the area.

Room Tip: Try to get a room close to the restaurant & pool area. If you end up at the far end of the premi...

The place was nice but crowded with children from outside playing in the pool, awkward and uncomfortable. Staff was nice and food surprisingly good. The scenery is great. We enjoyed the animals surrounding the estate.

located like somewhere in the middle of a Savannah, this hotel really surpirses you with its openness to nature and the way it has been made. you can see miles of the savana, the best part is the way it opens into them , without any boundaries or anything.
beautifully designed and makes you feel so close to nature. the spa is another very unique and a very good feature for this hotel.
Thank you for the lovely stay

My family and I stayed at the Lodge for 3 days this January and I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of our stay. The Lodge itself is set in a beautiful location, and our chalet was facing the stunning lake which was a fanastic sight in the mornings. We got to know the GM, Gazali, on a personal basis and found how much of a warm hearted individual he is, and the warmth and kindness he generates radiated through all his staff and their friendly, smiling faces. Every single member of staff we got to know were all so lovely and attentive, which lifted the spirits of the hotel even more. My sister and I got to know the head chefs, Jeevindra and Nimal, and they let us pretend to be mini chocolatiers for the morning and taught us how to make several chocolate decorations and macaroons which was a really enjoyable experience. I looked forward to every meal as the chefs prepared a delicious spread - in particular, I really loved Nimal's homemade ice cream, cookies and truffles! The hotel is beautifully kept and the animals are still in their natural, undisturbed habitat, which is great to see. Without reservation, I would definitely recommend this hotel to any family or couple as it is perfect for both and will most certainly be coming back again.

This is a hotel where you can enjoy a family trip in its best

1. Welcome was excellent and front desk staff is very helpful and quick.
2. The bungalow you are getting is luxurious with more space
3. Food was excellent, but did not had a variety of foods.
4. This is a big hotel where you have the space to enjoy throughout the day.
5. Wind comes through the lake is pretty cool and feel the pleasure of nature.

But make sure you close your door in the bungalow as hundreds of monkeys stayed around there.
