We (me, my wife and 4 month old baby) went on the 3 night 'brolly break' where you pay for two nights and get a third night free inc. breakfast each morning, dinner two nights, afternoon tea and scones on arrival and a couple of other extras, namely bottle of prosecco, two 30 minute spa treatments and a free 'brolly'!
We had a great time at this high end hotel in a fabulous part of the country. The staff were as helpful and friendly as one could hope for; the room and hotel were immaculately clean with all usual and desired facilities present; and the food was absolutely top notch.
A few more details...
Doxford is not somewhere we would usually stay, mainly due to the expense. It is a high class establishment, reflected in the rates. We were desperate for a very relaxing short stay, somewhere with a spa and pool facilities too, and being lucky enough to currently be in a position to stretch to such a budget, we went for it!...and to be fair, considering the rate we were on, I score it maximum for value for money.
The room - was large, spacious, clean, warm and comfortable. The finish was clean and modern with furniture dotted about including a fabulously imposing wardrobe, colourful painting over the bed and flat screen TV on the wall. Bathroom included a bath with jet stream facilities (not sure of there terminology!).
Hotel - the building is a lovely old hall but modernised inside and very warm. Its facilities includes a well-equipped gym, pool and spa. We each had a 30 minute treatment at the spa which was very relaxing. The pool included steam and sauna rooms and two jacousis. There is a cocktail bar and a restaurant, which has recently received a very high accolade from the AA I think. The grounds are good for a quick explore too, especially the maze, good for 20 minutes of fun, and it's grown to waist height so you wave or otherwise gesture at your friends and family.
Food - breakfast - is included for all hotel guests and is everything you expect from a hotel breakfast including fruit, cereals, yogurts, pastries, juice plus cooked breakfast. There was a wide choice of everything (e.g. 4 juice flavours) and the quality was high. My wife had fish on a couple of morning (kippers then haddock) and raved about it (and she knows her quality food) and for my part, the hash browns were fabulous.
Food - scones on arrival - I thought it worth mentioning these were great. We had tea or coffee and twos scones per person (included in our deal) on arrival. The scones were very good, but best of all, warm (granted, probably on heated up, but scones served warm will always have a jump start over other scones!).
Food - dinner - was exceptional. The restaurant is available to non guests and booking is generally recommended for hotel guests wishing to dine there (it was included for two of our nights). Service was exemplary and friendly. As it was inclusive for us we had £40 each to spend on the menu which was adequate for the three courses. One minor point: sides, coffee and drinks were not included in this spend and we ordered a side of homemade chips to share each night because the main courses did not include much carbs. They were, however, reasonably priced, and we just ended up having coffee in our room instead. The quality of the food was - as you may have already gathered in this rather gushing review - exceptional. In particular the lamb and monkfish were our favourite mains. On the first night we had the assiette of puddings, and had our favourite two the second night. The ice cream with brandy snap basket and almond and pair tart with ice cream and blackberries were truly fantastic....and we're normally chocolate people!
The only real downside I can think of is the lack of Wifi in the bedrooms and even the Wifi available in the communal areas was fairly slow. But that could count as a good thing if you want to truly get away from it all!
