“High end but fantastic value”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2013 via mobile

We (me, my wife and 4 month old baby) went on the 3 night 'brolly break' where you pay for two nights and get a third night free inc. breakfast each morning, dinner two nights, afternoon tea and scones on arrival and a couple of other extras, namely bottle of prosecco, two 30 minute spa treatments and a free 'brolly'!

Summary
We had a great time at this high end hotel in a fabulous part of the country. The staff were as helpful and friendly as one could hope for; the room and hotel were immaculately clean with all usual and desired facilities present; and the food was absolutely top notch.

A few more details...

Doxford is not somewhere we would usually stay, mainly due to the expense. It is a high class establishment, reflected in the rates. We were desperate for a very relaxing short stay, somewhere with a spa and pool facilities too, and being lucky enough to currently be in a position to stretch to such a budget, we went for it!...and to be fair, considering the rate we were on, I score it maximum for value for money.

The room - was large, spacious, clean, warm and comfortable. The finish was clean and modern with furniture dotted about including a fabulously imposing wardrobe, colourful painting over the bed and flat screen TV on the wall. Bathroom included a bath with jet stream facilities (not sure of there terminology!).

Hotel - the building is a lovely old hall but modernised inside and very warm. Its facilities includes a well-equipped gym, pool and spa. We each had a 30 minute treatment at the spa which was very relaxing. The pool included steam and sauna rooms and two jacousis. There is a cocktail bar and a restaurant, which has recently received a very high accolade from the AA I think. The grounds are good for a quick explore too, especially the maze, good for 20 minutes of fun, and it's grown to waist height so you wave or otherwise gesture at your friends and family.

Food - breakfast - is included for all hotel guests and is everything you expect from a hotel breakfast including fruit, cereals, yogurts, pastries, juice plus cooked breakfast. There was a wide choice of everything (e.g. 4 juice flavours) and the quality was high. My wife had fish on a couple of morning (kippers then haddock) and raved about it (and she knows her quality food) and for my part, the hash browns were fabulous.

Food - scones on arrival - I thought it worth mentioning these were great. We had tea or coffee and twos scones per person (included in our deal) on arrival. The scones were very good, but best of all, warm (granted, probably on heated up, but scones served warm will always have a jump start over other scones!).

Food - dinner - was exceptional. The restaurant is available to non guests and booking is generally recommended for hotel guests wishing to dine there (it was included for two of our nights). Service was exemplary and friendly. As it was inclusive for us we had £40 each to spend on the menu which was adequate for the three courses. One minor point: sides, coffee and drinks were not included in this spend and we ordered a side of homemade chips to share each night because the main courses did not include much carbs. They were, however, reasonably priced, and we just ended up having coffee in our room instead. The quality of the food was - as you may have already gathered in this rather gushing review - exceptional. In particular the lamb and monkfish were our favourite mains. On the first night we had the assiette of puddings, and had our favourite two the second night. The ice cream with brandy snap basket and almond and pair tart with ice cream and blackberries were truly fantastic....and we're normally chocolate people!

The only real downside I can think of is the lack of Wifi in the bedrooms and even the Wifi available in the communal areas was fairly slow. But that could count as a good thing if you want to truly get away from it all!

A well located and beautifuly restored country house hotel for a visit to explore Northumberland allowing us to visit the amazing Bambrough Castle and walk with our very small dog along the miles of the sandy beach and dunes. The staff,, without exception,, were extremely helpful and helpful and our room large and comfortable. Both breakfast and dinner were in beautifully designed restaurant and the choice of food and wine was all that we could have wanted.

Some of the weather whilst we were there was very wet and we were greeted to a warm welcoming atmosphere when we returned to the hotel rather wet and bedraggled.

The hotel has lovely gardens to stroll in when it wasn't raining and when it was I could enjoy the swimming pool in the spa and enjoy being warm and wet there.

My wife and I recently stayed at Doxford Hall Hotel & Spa for three days from Tuesday 29th - Friday 31st Oct. 2013. What a wonderful Hotel, from the moment we arrived to the time we departed, all the staff without exception, from Reception, Room Service, Restaurant morning, afternoon and evening and the Spa, every staff member was very helpful, exceptionally Professional, with a genuine touch of warmth and friendliness which made our stay very enjoyable and relaxing. Doxford Hall is ideal situated, just a short drive from the A1, north of Alnwick, in the heart of the wonderful Northumberland countryside with its rugged unspoiled coastline a short drive away. Seahouses, Bamborough, The Scottish Borders, Berwick and Edinburgh are all in easy reach from this wonderful hotel. Doxford Hall is a must for any visitor to Northumberland.

My husband and I stayed here on the night of a wedding we attended at the hotel. Having been to a number of country house weddings in norrhumberland in the past few years I think doxford hall was one of the best of them.

Our bedroom was well designed with beautiful antique furniture and modern amenities such as a flat screen tv and molton brown toiletries. The only downside about ours was that it overlooked the room the wedding reception was in which made it slightly noisy - not that we minded being
guests of the wedding. Near our room was a lovely sitting area on the landing which I thought would have been a great spot for afternoon tea.

The food was really good, particularly for wedding catering which can sometimes generally be a bit massed produced. Breakfast had a wide selection with hot food cooked to order.

One thing we did notice which was slightly odd was the smell of chlorine on the lower floors, presumably from the swimming pool which was next door to the room the wedding reception was in. not unpleasant just a bit odd - perhaps something could be used to mask this smell?

We had large standard room no.16, comfy beds, beautiful period furniture, on suite with jacuzzi bath, bathrobes and slippers, plentiful supply of Moulton Brown toiletries, large thick towels. Tea/coffee making, 2 packets of biscuits and 2 bottles of water each day, and TV with radio.
Lovely pool area.
Food excellent, breakfast cooked fresh to order. Brilliant staff. An exceptional hotel, perfect place to relax - lots of interesting places to visit in the area.

Our overnight stay was on the 18th oct 2013 where we were greeted by the very polite & pleasant staff. Shown to our truly gorgeous room (31) "The Grace Darling suite, with a bathroom to die for....wow. Had a nice relaxing few hours in the spa before we went for the evening meal which was second to none. BEAUTIFUL.
The full English Breakfast was equally the same. Great surroundings & a stunning building with lots of things close by....Cragside, Alnwick Castle. A beautiful part of the English countryside.

We got a Travel Zoo voucher for a spa day and lunch here. We arrived mid morning and used the spa facilities which although fairly small are fine. Despite being quite busy we always seemed to have the pool to ourselves. Free tea and coffee in the lovely relaxation room. Lunch was superb, very tasty and beautifully presented, served in a lovely dining room. We had treatments in the afternoon and they were good too. All in all a very successful and enjoyable day and we will be back!!
