“Magic camping under the stars”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 4, 2013

One of the most wonderful experiences we have ever had. We did a 3 night nomad trip on beautiful camels. The nomad camp on two different locations the first and second night was pure magic. Bobo and his team are amazing and the camp and stars breathtaking. We lacked absolutely nothing. The food and drinks were perfect and the level of service overwhelming. Our final night was in the permanent camp which is also wonderful. It can get hot in the daytime but sunset and sunrise and nights are well worth that slight discomfort. It's not cheap but the experience is more than worth the investment.

We had always been dreaming about going to the desert but were wondering if it could fit the needs of a family with a small child.
Staying at the camp was a wonderful experience, not only for the amazing natural beauties but especially because it made all of us discover the hospitality of the Berbers.
We are grateful to our hosts Nick and Bobo - the perfect organizer the first; the nicest host the second - for having provided us with the highest standard of quality (particularly appreciated was the driver that led us to and from the desert, Lahcen!). We loved the food, the SPECTACULAR tent accommodation (unblievable!) and the overall experience, we are now richer people.

Our trip to the Sahara was so different from anything I had ever experienced in my life. This was a true adventure. Yes, the drive from Marrakech is long but with stops for pictures, it is well worth the drive. We loved every moment, even the bumpy roads. We arrived as the sun was setting. The twinkling of candles in the sand and the brilliant Milky Way made you feel like you were in a movie. The tents in both camps were designed to make your stay very comfortable. Real beds, soft linens, lush towels and lotions; just what every girl needs. All meals were delicious! Next morning, after breakfast, we left the nomadic camp and we rode Camels for 3 hours to main camp site. After lunch we set under a tree sipping tea and reading books. That evening we rode camels to the top of a sand dune to watch the sunset over the Sahara. After dinner with a glass of Moroccan wine the Bluemen sang and played Berber music for us. “Desert Camp Morocco" is first class and if you don't want to ride for 9 hours in the Land Cruiser, Nick will fly you in. This experience was fabulous! Thank you Nick, for all your help. Mohamad Bobo for being so sweet and all the Bluemen of the Sahara. Rebecca G and Marilyn W

Great hospitality - Bobo and Yahya were the perfect hosts. Good food, great commentary, amazing views. Would fly in next time if I could afford it. Surely with a visit.

A little too cold in Dec. however.

Nick and his entire team are absolutely fantastic. My husband and I took advantage of the seven-night package offered on the website, opting for three nights in Marrakech and two in the desert. (Wish we would have done it the other way around and stayed three nights in the desert.) Nick took care of everything - all accommodations, car, and driver. It was perfect.

Our driver, Yahya (a wonderful guy, driver, and guide), met us at our riad in Marrakech and expertly four-wheeled us through palm tree oases, mountains, and desert while Arabic music playing on the stereo set the backdrop for our trip. It was like being in a movie - soundtrack playing, bumping over rough terrain, heading for something unknown. We found ourselves being wowed over and over at every turn in the road. The scenery is indescribable.

Our two nights sleeping at the foot of the dunes began at the Luxury Camp where we found no detail overlooked. We arrived just before sunset and climbed a dune only steps from our tent to watch the show. As dusk turned to dark, the staff brought out candle-lit lanterns and built a blazing fire. Dinner was excellent, and afterwards, the Berbers at the camp gave us a wonderful concert while we sipped wine by the fire. Talking with Bobo (the camp chief) until the wee hours of the morning was the highlight of the evening, though. Our tent was HUGE with a separate, connected tent set up as a bathroom. The king-size bed was unbelievably comfortable (better than in many hotels where we've stayed), and we were in the middle of the desert! We had planned to stay at the Lux Camp for two nights, but Nick and Bobo had set up a new Nomadic Camp only the day before we arrived, and we were offered the option to stay there. We jumped at the chance, and awoke the next morning for a two-hour camel trek (no, they don't stink, nor do they spit on you, in fact, they are quite affectionate) to the "big tree" for a relaxing picnic in the desert before going on to the Nomadic Camp. The soft, rhythmic plod of footsteps on the warm sand is entrancing, and you'll find yourself not wanting or needing to speak.

When we arrived at the Nomadic Camp, we found a completely isolated, private setting that was almost as luxurious as the base camp - large tent with private bathroom, comfy bed, and delicious food. The Berbers showed us how to bake bread in hot sand, and we ate a fantastic home-cooked meal, then laid back to spot constellations and count shooting stars. The desert is shrouded in silence and darkness at night, save for the moon and stars. A magnificent, beautiful, spiritual place. A true gift. Do NOT miss the opportunity to go!

We were only in Morocco for six days but we wanted to do something a bit different which is why we chose Erg Chigag Luxury Camp. We flew in to Marrakech and were picked up at the airport. The road trip is long and not for the easily car-sick but it is beautiful, interesting and well worth it. Our driver Yahya was exceptionally knowledgeable and a very skilled driver which came in handy when the mountain pass was blocked by snow! The only insight I would offer for the road trip is to make sure you discuss with your driver what you want from your experience. There are many places to stop, shop, learn about the local culture, and eat but some of the shop keepers can be very aggressive so make sure you know what you're stopping for at each place.

It is not possible to overstate the magic of this camp! We spent two nights at the camp and never had a dull moment. Camel rides, dune boarding, a trek to a nearby oasis, and a ride to the big dunes to watch an amazing sunset kept us busy. The food was plentiful, authentic, and delicious and the accommodations were very comfortable. Nick, the owner of the camp, kindly and quickly answered all of my questions no matter how silly and even called to check in on us during our trip back to Marrakech. If you have a sense of adventure and want something more from your visit to Morocco this is the place!

Earlier this month four of us spent two nights at Erg Chigaga Luxury Camp. The journey from Marrakesh, although long was exceedingly interesting. Our guide Hamid joined us for the final part of the journey to escort us to the camp and show us how to manouver our 4x4. Some of our party thought this most exhilarating!
It was wonderful to arrive just after sunset to the candlelit encampment. The star lit sky, the silence of the dessert was magical.
Our tent was warm, well lit with really beautiful luxurious furnishings and with a lots of attention to detail, all the supplied toiletries were of the best quality Moroccan ingredients.
The meals were delicious and varied and the wine flowed freely.
Although all the above was excellent the best part was the opportunity to mix and talk with the Berber people at the camp. Bobo, who managed the camp was an excellent host. We were all well cared for and made to feel very welcome. Talking to Hamid and Bobo gave us the best insight on how it was to live in the desert. We all really enjoyed our stay at the Erg Luxury camp and I would always recommend it to friends as an opportunity for a unique experience
