“Great place and lovely town”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 8, 2014

We recently stayed at this hotel and while we arrived extremely late a night, the hotel manager met us with no issue and made sure we re got settled. Having arrived late we didn't fully realize how lovely the area was and had a great view when we woke the next morning. The suite was excellent value, the food was great and the people very welcoming. Very happy to have found a Hotel Della Fortezza.

We spent two nights in this small hotel in the Maremma. The view from the room was wonderful. The breakfast was nice, with homemade cakes. The piazza outside seemed like a private space even though iti is public. The staff were friendly and helpful. Sorano does not have as much to offer as some other towns but it is a good location for exploring the region.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view. There is parking but you have to walk a bit to get from the parking to t...

We loved this hotel its so unique, you sleep in a fortress of medieval era. Well if you like this type of history, like I do. You should also tour the fortress and the museum right next to it. The town has antique stores, cheese store, restaurants, great monuments, and a wine tasting canteen with local wines! All just steps away from the hotel.

This was a special place for myself, husband and daughter. We arrived to find out that a reservations for one room with 3 beds had been replaced with 2 rooms. My grown daughter was excited to get away from her parent for the night.
We were in awl over this old hotel. The views from the rooms were fanatic, and a little chilling thinking how old this place was.
The manager was terrific and suggested place to stay at our next location.
Breakfast was out of this world, this lady was busy baking and making fresh food for all, I actually asked for lessons.

I spent a night here with my parents, husband and children (10 and 8). I found it to be a perfectly delightful, one-of-a-kind experience -- the views are TRULY specular as indeed is the fortress itself. I've never had to cross a moat to reach my bedroom before... The staff was courteous and helpful and there were a variety of freshly-baked cakes for breakfast and a charming woman served us our cappuccini.
For those who are bothered by this kind of thing, it should be noted that there is no air-conditioning nor wifi in the bedrooms, and the lampshades and other decor details show some signs of benign neglect -- but hey, this is a totally awesome fortress, so who cares? All six of us agreed that the overall experience ranked as a high-point of our trip.

Room Tip: Pay the extra 20 euro to get the Superiore with a view over the valley -- worth every penny.

I decided to spend a night in Sorano after I noticed this hotel online. The town, while lovely, is tiny and won't constitute even a single day of sightseeing. However, for the price, the view, the charm, and the excellent restaurants down the street, this is a special place to stay for a night before exploring Tuscany (I stayed the night after I picked my car up in Rome). The hostess is lovely, there is a theater (live performance) right next door, and the breakfast is very good. I really liked this place.

We were really amazed by the location of this hotel. Spectacular views over the town of Sorano. i've never stayed anywhere like this before. It is an old fort, so it makes complete sense that it would overlook the rooftops. Friendly staff, nice breakfast. A bat did sneak in the window, which was a bit of a surprise, but my partner got it out without too much trouble...the pitfuls of an historic fortress I guess. We'd very much recommend staying here.
