“The Best”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 4, 2007

I hesitate to write this review. I am scared that if I decide to return I would not be able to book a room. Quite honestly, anyone going to Macau, whether it be for one night or a month, It's not even worth considering stopping anywhere else. Would the staff greet you by name at any of the big chain hotels? Would you have a massive double room with King size beds, Balcony, tea/coffer facilites, iron, ironing board, flat screen TV , Dressing Gowns, Slippers. All for 600 HKD. Oh AND breakfast included. What a find. Our thanks to ALL the staff. (especially Rachel!!)

My family and I booked 2 Double rooms and 1 Single room during our stay in Macau from 11 Oct till 14 Oct. We had a lovely time and we were greeted with helpful students and our rooms were very clean! We were impressed by the size of the double bedroom and the bathroom. All bathroom amenities were provided like a 4 star hotel. All the students there were eager to help us and thus it made our stay so comfortable. Only minus point is that the hotel is located half the hill and it was very tiring after a whole day of walking to climb up to our hotel.Taxi's were rare so we have to walk down the slope and pray hard for taxis to pass by. I would strongly advice travellers to travel in a group of 2 or 4 people max. It was difficult for us to get 2 taxis at the same time as our group consisted of 5 people.

My wife and I stayed here for two nights in mid-May (2007) after spending 10 days in Beijing, Datong, and Xi'an. We picked it based largely on other reviews from TripAdvisor and were extremely happy with our choice - thank you fello travelers! The rooms are large, immaculate, and well appointed. The service is extremely good. The breakfast that was provided was excellent and in a beautiful setting. Several times a day a shuttle bus will take you to/from key places (including ones not listed on the official route map). And the cost of the room is probably half what it could be if it the Pousada were not being run by students from the national tourism university. The only negative was that it is not within walking distance from the major sites, so if you do not want to time your travels to match the shuttle schedule, you'll need to spend a little on taxis.

Overall, I highly recommend the Pousada de Mong-Ha, unless money is no object, in which case the Wynn would be the way to go. Right now its a hidden secret, since it doesn't show up on TripAdvisors ranked list of hotels for some reason (too few reviews?).

I read the reviews on this property and thought we'd give it a try as we would only be in Macau one night. Although the property itself is charming and the service is good, if you are looking for convenient proximity to the casinos, this probably isn't the option for you as getting taxi service from the hotel isn't instantaneous. The rooms themselves are fairly large - ours had a fairly large entry room which also housed a desk and space for luggage, a separate bedroom, and a bathroom with shower. All that aside, it was a good price/value option given the research we had done on other hotel options in Macau.

Stayed at the Pousada for three days in May 2007 (16th to 19th May). It is set in lovely grounds with very eager young people who are carefully supervised by very experienced hospitality veterans. It is not on a direct bus route so a taxi from the ferry terminal is the best bet (MOP29). Accommodation in a suite was great and meticulously presented. The teaching restaurant up the road is excellent and prices are good with solid portions - I ran out of "tummy space". Several conversations with supervisors and students left no doubt about commitment - enjoy.

Pousada de Mong Ha is an oasis of green, cleanliness and beauty in Macau.
20 rooms, the most courteous staff, and a quiet public garden all around.
It is part of the Macau Institute for Tourism Studies ([-] a large University/College like school) and most of the staffs are training students who try their best to do well and help: the result is excellent.
The Pousada is not too central but central enough to be convenient.
Cleanliness is good. Service excellent. Breakfast very nice. Atmosphere tranquil and comforting. Price: very good value. The so called single has a queen bed and is perfect for a couple that prefer to spend a bit less. Internet is free in all rooms.
These are not frequent things in Macau.
Other than this Educational Hotel, the institute has an educational restaurant: elegant and pleasant with fairly good Macanese progressive cuisine.
It couldn’t be any better. We would definitely come back to Pousada de Mong Ha if there was any reason to come to Macau.

Over the last few years I've stayed here many times. Every room category - from single to suite - is very good, with the spacious doubles probably representing the best value. There's nothing else in Macau at the same price level that's remotely in the same league, especially given that there are no additional taxes (I assume because it's a government institution) and that (the very good) breakfast and broadband are included. The only downside is the consistent inefficiency of the reception staff - I understand that they're students, but they'd never survive a week in a mainstream hotel.
