“We really enjoyed our visit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 2, 2013

I missed this on a previous visit to Macau . For us , it was worth it just for the view . You get a different view of the Ruins of St Paul , looking down and from the side .
Macau is an interesting place to walk around and the fort gives a good perspective of the layout of the territory . Right beside St Paul's and not far from Senado Square . The site offers the chance to absorb the uniqueness that is Macau , a strange mix of Chinese and old Portuguese .

“Great place for photo's and bit of history”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 19, 2013

Across from the remnants of St Pauls Cathedral, the old city fortress is located up a series of steep steps, and has relics from it's past including, canons and the Macau museum( closed mondays). It offers great vistas of the surrounding area and wonderful scenic photo opportunities.
There is a small refreshments shop to get a cold soft drink after the climb up.

“Stunning view and well kept fortress.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 19, 2013

Few meters walking distance from the famous ruins of St. Paul Church situated on top of a promontory overlooking the city this fortress is what remains of the presence of a former Portuguese colonies here in Macau.
Preserved perfectly and it is open to visitors every day, from here is possible to enjoy a stunning view over Macau.
On the side of St. Paul's Church following a trail uphill reach it is easily in 10 minutes at the entrance of the fortress. The inside area is fairly large but the thing that struck me most are the many guns arranged and aligned one next to the other in the way to protect the fortress.
Staying up here can vary from half an hour time limit for ritual photos, or even a couple of hours if you want to visit every corner of this place.

“Nice views of the city and even of bordering Mainland China”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 1, 2013

The Forte Monte (Mount Fortess) was really cool and has old cannons lining the summit perimeter. The top also gives 360 degree views of the entire vicinity including bordering Mainland China right across from the Pearl River. You can also see the infamous oddly shaped Grand Lisboa casino along with the Macau Tower off in the distance as well as some of the other main big buildings from downtown. There were also some very bright red colored trees lining the grounds below which were very unlike any I've ever seen before.
In order to reach this fort though, be aware of a tough hike up the main steep stairs. Also, after your short hike, there is the Macau Museum (which I did not go into). However, there are benches just inside the foyer area and made for a nice resting place after reaching the fortess.
As for fees while visiting these areas? No for visiting the fortess, but yes for visiting the Macau Museum.
The Mount Fortress is located just upslope from the Ruins of St. Paul although it's partially hidden by the surrounding trees. You can see many parts of the fortress wall peaking out from behind the greenery though and to get there, just cross the road from the ruins and follow the arrowed signs up the hill.

“Not as nice as it could be”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 4, 2013

Nice views of Macau but like anything else not related to gambling in Macau it was a little underwhelming. More information on the history of the fort, better accessibility and better maintenance would make this a much better tourist destination.
