“Cultural experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2013

This place is worth the visit in order to experience and see the type of rich household existing in colonial time. The entrance is free and there is an excellent video shown in Chinese, English and Portuguese (wait for your choice of language) which tells you the story of the house in the context of the time it has been build and over several generations, about the influential owners, novelty of the fusion western/eastern architecture and the excellent work established by the government to preserve this unique heritage in Macau.
The place is mostly empty inside the rooms but is still worth the visit and I am sure over many years, more objects will find a place in this grand house. Unfortunately, there is no longer any view over the harbour , but one could imagine what it used to look like by visiting this house.
Toilets facilities are well kept. A small air conditioned shop with some beautiful designer items for sale.

“Well worth half an hour”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 15, 2013

While the European churches and other buildings swelter in the summer heat, the house of these wealthy Chinese traders stated cool and fresh thanks to its smart construction. Elegant, familial and spacious, the house reminds us of a leisurely family life in past times. Good restoration work and interesting architectural details.

“What a surprise”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2013

We were quite surprised to find that place in such good shape. It is basically a 2 family place. Walking around you will notice two inner court yards, which are very typical for Chinese homes (the rich ones of course). Worth a visit.
No entrance fee, they only record your visit.
The gift shop offers some nice stuff, not the typical Chinese nick knacks.
Bathrooms are on the premises.

“Mandarin's House - 郑家大屋”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 17, 2013

if you are visiting A-Ma temple or the Maritime museum and have some extra time. Do consider walk up to this heritage house. Just follow the sign, about 10 mins walk along the stretch of shop houses (starting from Koi Kei bakery shop).

Entrance is free but please let the front office staff know where you are from and the number of
visitor. They need to record.

it is a very well preserved traditional Mandarin's style mansion. Intrresting architecture, big
courtyard and how they demarcate the functionalities of different sections the mansion. You can still see some old furnitures on display.

Just need to spend about 15 minutes there. There is also a souvenir shop next to the entrance if you are interested.

“Visit for the History”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2013

This home was once the grandest in Macau. When the owner ran out of money and left Macau, the house was overrun by the homeless. The government stepped in and cleaned the place up. Take 15 - 20 minutes and wander about. There are still some treasures left to be seen.
