Here are the five strong points of this hotel - Casa Real
1) Location - the location of the hotel is very good which is near Fisherman's wharf and the Ferry Terminal (where you can get free rides to other hotel destinations ex: The Venetian) and you can catch a bus ride to anywhere in Macau with the bus stop right next to the hotel
2) Service - the service of this hotel is excellent, especially the Filipino staffs namely Andy, Joel (bellhops)and Aileen (front desk) with their ready smile and always eager in looking for ways to assist you and always exceeding my expectations. I am very proud of my Kababayans for the exemplary service they render to us. The other personnel are also very good despite of their English language difficulty.
3) Breakfast - I initially chose this hotel because the the buffet breakfast and I was surprised by the delicious and wide variety of choices ( they even served you as late as 10 am so you don't have to wake up early)
4) Rooms - I got an Elite room on the 10th flr and we were very comfortable throughout our stay - comfortable bed, a big flat screen tv in front of you, a separate room for a high speed internet connection, ample storage space for luggage and free guide books and the best is the clean bathroom which has everything (bath robe for 2, slippers for 2, toothbrushes (good quality) shaving kits, shower caps, bath soap, shampoo etc - so you don't need to bring this with you because the hotel has provided them.
5) Cleanliness - the hotel is very clean, the lobby, the immediate surroundings and the rooms.
I was very glad to have stayed in this hotel for 2 relaxing nights. My wife was suffering from colds when we arrived in Macau, but she was healed/cured when we went back (count that under the healing power of a stress free and relaxing environment).
Tips:
1) The Cebu Pacific fun tours which we availed did not provide a shuttle service from airport to hotel - they repeatedly told me over their hotline that the hotel will provide an airport transit but no one came to fetch us. Having a feeling that this might happen, I prepared for this and as part of my preparation, earlier went to Google maps and printed the map where Casa Real is located and highlighted the hotel name in Mandarin, we took a taxi and just showed him the map and we safely arrived (be careful to really lower your head when entering the taxis in Macau, taxis have very low door entrance
2) Prepare some ready Macau Patacas with you or Hongkong dollars for taxis and buses
3) Buses routes can be found in the maps, try to read them and follow their routes, they are a great way to travel around Macau and very cheap - we paid MOP 7 for 2.
4) Very cold (16 C to 18 C) in Macau when we went there (March 5 to 7) with occasional rain. Please bring folding umbrellas with you and a good water-proof jacket.
5) Visit the Venetian Hotel - a nice place to spend your money aside from gambling like shopping and dining (try the dimsum restaurants - very delicious)
6) The Ruins of St Paul's, the Mount Fort Museum and Senado Square are a must places to vist - these places are very near each other.
7) Lastly, if you plan to go on walking tours, please do bring a good pair of sneakers and a good tripod for your digicams so that you don't have to request a stranger to get your pictures.
Have fun in Macau!
