I booked on the same day from the hotel website.
It was confirmed with reservation number & email sent to my mail box.
When we arrived there 2hours later, the front desk refused to accept us with reason that the price from the agent was not right and asked us to go back to agent.
We explained that we actually booked from hotel website.
The guy named Oscar insisted that he could not accept us unless we pay additional 60% more from the price confirmed in the confirmation letter. We were very upset and requested to see his manager. He even dared to give us a customer relationship manager name card and claimed that it's his name card. We saw the name tag that he wore was not the same as the name in the card, so we asked him. We just re-wrote his name as Oscar on the name card. After reasoning by showing him all the cancellation terms in the email, he finally has no choice but to accept us. We felt so disappointed that we need to went through such a long argument with him after our tired journey flying to macau via Hongkong. We just need a room to rest.

Casa Real is a choice for budget travellers who want to pamper themselves without burning a deep hole in their pockets. Before I went to Macau, I was at Hong Kong. The room rate for a so called 3* hotel at Hong Kong (see Dorsett Seaview reviews) cost me ~S$120 which is more expensive than this 4* hotel which cost me ~S$100 and the room @ Casa real is 3 times bigger. (Note :I consider it a 4* , however it may be categorised a 3-3.5* in Macau hotel standards; comparing to Sofitel, Venetian, Wynn, Lisboa, etc).

If you are coming over from Hong Kong by the speed boat at night; which we did, arriving at approx. 9pm, then you probably would have to walk ur way to Casa Real- a 10mins walk from the Ferry Terminal. You would see minibuses from Venetian, Wynn, Galaxy Star World, so forth, but none from Casa Real. The locals are not too familiar with the Hotel English Name "Casa Real", but rather in Chinese/ Cantonese "Huang Jia Jin Bao/ Wong Kar Kam Bow".

The service @ Casa Real was excellent. No deposit was required to hold room for late check-in. In addition, my husband and I were given a free upgrade to a deluxe room. The room was clean and spacious and had a good view of Guia Hill. The cable TV offers many channels for the insomniacs who don't wish to be spending time at casinos. However the in-house casino is a great disappointment. Take a cab to Grand Lisboa to have better fun. Another minus point, no nearby 24hrs eating house for the famished.

Overall we enjoyed our stay at Casa Real, Macau.

This hotel is close to the ferry terminal and has a free shuttle from the terminal and also to another casino. The location is ok - easy walking distance to town (10-15 mins) and there are a couple of casinos around the corner but there is not a huge amount really close by.
Hotel itself is pretty nice. We got a room upgrade to the west wing of the hotel which was nice. Good bathroom, nice amenities, big bed etc. Room service was prompt, staff pleasant. Casino was pretty small.

My fiance and I stayed at the Casa Real for one night. We figured, it will just be one night so we can stay at a 3-star hotel. We had taken the ferry from Hong Kong and were pleased to find out that the hotel was only about a 15 minute walk from the terminal.

The hotel shuttle was nowhere to be found when we got there so we had to walk (with all our luggage) to the hotel. Just imagine carrying your luggage up and down stairs! I was so envious of the Wynn, the Venetian, etc. whose shuttle buses were right there on the terminal.

We spent about 10 minutes figuring out where the hotel lobby was. The hotel and casinos in Vegas and Atlantic City all have the casino downstairs and the rooms upstairs but I guess this was one of the old school hotels hence the layout. The actual hotel was located around the corner and nobody from the casino can tell us where the hotel was. Apparently, English is not as common here as it was in Hong Kong.

The hotel was far from "the strip" and we had to go back to the ferry terminal to ride the shuttle buses to the other hotels.

The casino at the hotel was a little too small and made me claustrophobic.

The rooms are clean and we had a nice view of the hills. The room also had a safe and the lighting was decent. We had requested for a room in the higher floors and a queen bed and they gave us a room in the higher floors with two twin beds. I asked them if they had a room with a double/queen bed (I wouldn't mind if it was in the lower floors) but the front desk said that the rooms with double/queen beds are smoking rooms only. I DON'T SEE THE POINT IN THAT.

Next time, we will book at the hotels on "the strip" even if it was just for one night.

  • Liked — The Filipino bellhop who showed us where the best Portuguese restaurant was.
  • Disliked — Rooms with double/queen beds are only available on the SMOKING floors.

Went to Macau on 2/1/08, and stayed one night at Casa Real. Hotel is near the Macau Ferry Terminal, and Fisherman's Wharf.
There is also a bus stop within walking distance that has buses that goes to attractions in Macau. The hotel itself has shuttle bus to the border gate, and the ferry terminal at every 1/2hr interval. A little suggestion is if you want to go to other hotels like The Venetian, u can take the free shuttle from casa real to the border gate where there are all the free shuttle buses to other hotels. This way, you can save on the cab fare/bus fare! (:

Overall, my stay was very pleasant. We were given an early check in at 10am, and the front office was very polite and helpful. They could communicate fluently in English. The room is well maintained, and had the basic neccessities, such as toothbrushes etc. The only disappointing fact was the our room did not have a great view of outside.

Breakfast was great! Although food variety was average intercontinental style, but the service is excellent.
