“Best Hotel We Have Ever Been To.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 24, 2009

We returned from Codial Mogan Playa two weeks ago and have not stopped telling our friends what a fabulous hotel it is.We are unable to understand any of the comments in the one negative review posted a few days ago, please don't let it put you off.
From arrival we were made to feel so welcome with champers/orange juice whilst checking in to being met before dinner on the Thursday again with free drinks. The manager also chatted with us to see how we were enjoying ourselves. Then the last night at dinner the restaurant manager came to our table to thank us for coming and wish us well.My husband was up getting his meal so the same manager came to see him whilst we were having our after dinner drink in the bar.
There is a Piano/Saxaphone Bar and another bar where the evening entertainment/Mini Disco is .Entertainment was mixed and typical of most Spanish Hotels but there were a couple of very passable singers and a 'Four Tops' Tribute which we really enjoyed.
The food was superb quality and the morning eggs and Meat/Fish all freshly cooked to order. There is no one more fussy about food than me,especially as I am Wheat/Gluten Free.
Other people have reviewed the hotel in detail but it is hard to appreciate how good it is until you are there. We did feel when we were there that when we got home we would book again for later in the year but it is a lot more expensive then, we will definately go back soon though as it was so relaxing.
Mogan itself was very quiet, apparently it always is in May/June,added to that the recession according to our rep,so if you want a lively resort it would not be for you. Also there were many Europeans there so again, if you prefer an all ' English ' resort it is not for you.
The nearby bus service was great and very reliable,we used it twice and also got the ferry into Puerto Rico.
One of the other reviews spoke of the Timeshare/Holiday Club touts. We went to a presentation from Puerto Rico, taken by free taxi to Arginigine. This was a place we intended visiting anyway so got to see it for free[not a place worth bothering about though!!!] Anyway after the presentation and not joining the 'ridiculously' priced holiday club we left with a large free bottle of Baileys,T Shirt and holiday voucher[we wont use it as it is back to Arginigine]Free taxi back to Puerto Rico, so we didn't come out of it too badly we thought.

My husband and i didnt arrive to cordial playa until 4 in the morning very tired from the journey, stepping off the coach the word we both used was wow what a place! The food the staff the rooms everything was superb. We both decided to book a few day trips as my husbands not a sunbathing lover he likes 2 explore the island which is stunning although we had one day in puero rico when we decided to take a taxi in to Anfi hotel after being recommended by a man in puerto rico but be aware my husband and i very careful when it comes to any kind of timeshare or scam but what word could i use for that day "sucked in" it went from having a nice stroll to ending up in a big office being swore and shouted at by what i could make out the idiot boss of the timeshare scam like my husband said it was all an act but at the same time very scary situation please dont let this put you off any trip to puerto rico if anybody mentions taxi to anfi please say no unless you want to know about timeshare! But that was a morning of our holiday we stayed for a week and yes we will go back to grand canaria and def stay at the cordial playa (mogan) again.

First impression was its a lovely hotel, we arrived at 1am so checked in and went straight to bed, the porter and receptionist were both very helpful and pleasant. The hotel, gardens and surroundings are very nice and most of the staff are pleasant but there are some that are quite abrupt and rude. We enjoyed our holiday but this hotel is not as good as we were led to believe. We booked 2 weeks full board but the food is not great, we were shocked to see the chefs cooking the meat on the grill using the same utensils for raw and cooked meat ? we had to continuously ask for the meat to be cooked further but the chefs just flung it on your plate anyway. The evening buffet was a free for all, people pushing you out the way, there are different stations round the restaurant, a terrible layout, the fish is right over the far side, the food was luke warm and bland.
We were expecting a relaxing holiday but the hotel was full of noisy kids and there was constant noise of moving furniture all hours of the day and night, the hotel was also doing maintenance so there was noise from drills/machinery in the day.
The last day was horrendous.... we had extended our room till 6pm check out which was a right performance as the receptionist was abrupt with us and starting serving someone else whilst dealing with us, my husband had woken that morning with stomach pain and diarrhoa, he spent the day in the room very ill. As we were not being picked up till 9pm that evening, I went to eat at the lunch buffet (we had paid for full board for 14 days?), in mid meal I was humiliated and embarrassed in front of everyone when an abrupt waitress challenged me on not being able to eat there as we were checking out that day and needed food vouchers ? we were not told anything about this by reception?
We have been home just over a week now and my husband is still very poorly with stomach pain and severe diarrhoa and been diagnosed with Salmonella Food Poisoning ?
We love Gran Canaria but would never go back to this hotel, it is over-rated and over-priced...this holiday was a romantic break for our first wedding anniversary and it is one holiday we wish to forget ....we will be going back to Gran Canaria in September but will go back to H10 Playa Meloneras Palace which is a much better hotel.

I have just returned from a much needed break with my mum and this hotel was just what the doctor ordered !!! From the start we were greeted with so much friendliness and although we had booked half board were upgraded to full board. The gardens are magnificent and the walk through them certainly makes the 6 minute walk to the beach very pleasant. The pool area with its waterfalls and bridges was very clean and relaxing and the fact that the sunbeds had proper cushions made it a perfect place to spend a few hours . The reception area and indeed everywhere made it a pleasure to sit and read a book or just watch the world go by. Food is plentiful although if I had to criticise anything sometimes the waiters at night seemd a little harrassed and the wait fir drinks was sometimes a long one.The hotel offers a library which i frequented and donated a few books ,entertainment was alright and the four tops (tribute band) was fantastic . Clean pool towels every day and views to die for what more could anybody wish for !!!! well worth its four star rating .....

This is one of the best laid out hotels we have stayed at, the architecture of the main reception and public areas are beautiful, everywhere you look you see something eye-catching. The gardens and features are fantastic!, with some special water features inside and out!

Rooms good with all the usual nedds catered for. Our balcony had the usual patio table and chairs but a lovely feature was the bit of grass and plants, felt like a wee garden all of your own!

Food choice and quality was very good quality and more-ish!Staff friendly and professional. Entertainment on the whole good but a little repetative, the animator team put a lot of effort and hard work into things! All very nice people, especially Buff and Colin!

We were there for 2 weeks, with friends joining us the 1st week and we had a great time-towards 2nd week end, more guests were arriving daily,- one thing a bit disappointing, why do parents let kids run mental and do not keep them in check? its great to see children having good time but not to let them go wild with no consideration for others!!!

However even with that little critism would thoroughly recommend this hotel, The area of Mogan beautiful during day but not so much going on in evenings-but as hotel very good this was not a propblem.

Will definately return in the future!

Warning; Do NOT read this review if you are hard to please or want every aspect of the holiday complex uncovering.

We returned from Cordial Mogan Playa today and are pining to go back already! We have visited Maspalamos and Puerto Rico the previous two years with the mentality of enjoy the experience of a holiday and then move on to the next place. Cordial Mogan Playa breaks this rule on every level and we SHALL be returning (soon!)

We arrived at 3am (approx) to be greeted by a) the amazing decor and b) the option of chilled orange, water or champagne whilst a night porter transferred our luggage into the rooms.

No detail is missed within the maintenance and decor of rooms. They are fully equipped with shower/bath, toilet, DVD player, air con, TV, hairdryer, nail files, sewing kits, chairs [inside and out], safety deposit box, brochure guides, a-z of the hotel and fridge.

Me and my partner are 21 and 23 with high expectations of security within a holiday complex. The Cordial Mogan Playa has secure surroundings, 24hr professional security patrol and 24hr reception staff.

Food (full board)
Restaurant. Breakfast 7.30am-10.30 am
Lunch in the blue building. 1pm -3.30pm
Dinner - either 6.30 - 7.30pm or 8.30 - 9.30pm.

Breakfast you sit anywhere. There are a wide selection of cheeses, cold meats. pate, breads, crepes, cereals, toasts, jams etc, fruit (apples pears banana kiwi melon pineapple), croissants, bacon, eggs, mushrooms, browns, beans, tomatoes, sausage. Drinks included tea, coffee, hot choc, water, fresh orange, peach, apricot, and champagne :)

Lunch you sit freely again. Breads, salads, tuna, paella, fish fingers, pizza, chicken nuggets, pasta, chips, cheese straws, meat cooked fresh for you, lasagne, beef stew, canary potatoes, desserts, ice cream and plenty other dishes. Your drinks are placed on room tab here.

Dinner. You pick a sitting when you check in and are allocated a table you remain at the entire duration of your stay. You can ask for a specific area where you would like to be seated. Some of the reviews state how the seating was 'canteen' like, all i can say is I wish I’d of attended your school. We had no qualms with it. The men are asked to wear long trousers and EVERYONE in general stuck to this.
The food included. Pastas, meats, sushi, salads, breads, fresh meat and fish, stir fry, spring rolls, veg, chips, tuna, and MANY MANY others that i cannot remember. It is self service and once again your drinks are placed on the room tab.

The only down side to this was ( due to the waiter and the fact we dined here during 'Spanish weekend') the meal can feel some what rushed. The restaurant has a pleasant amount of staff with a distinctive head of house who is very professional (which can be said for all Cordial Mogan staff)

Pool Side; Beautiful, clean and spacious. The sun beds have blue mattresses and you collect fresh towels daily between 9am - 10am. There was one pool near the blue building had a child’s play area and a baby pool so this was more busy with children whereas the pool near the reception area was very quiet. It was a big pool with a shallow area, waterfalls and Jacuzzis area. The reviews state about the sand – grit, in all fairness this area covers less than a quarter of the entire space so basically just don’t sit there if you don’t like it. There is a pool bar but unlike many other hotels we have visited there are no pressures about purchase they happily accept people bring their own drinks from the supermarket (hyper dino literally 2secs across road).
Kids club – even though we obviously didn’t travel with kids we saw the animation room which is more or less like the crèche you’d pay to send your kids back home. The room is decorated with things they have made. On the door of the building is an itinerary for each day, when passing we saw cow boys and Indian days, baking cookies, aqua day, Olympic day, painting, face painting, clowns etc there is an animation team in the bar most nights for the children.

Adults – animation team were friendly and not overly persistent you are invited to play darts, bowls, salsa, Spanish lessons, hotel tour, water polo, yoga, water aerobics and nightly shows (reptile, mamma mia, salsa etc) on at the bar and a live musical act every night.
The complex. To the right of the reception desk are stairs up them is a place you can read or exchange books and internet computer facilities ( the only down side to cordial Mogan is wireless is available but you have to pay per week for it) downstairs is the travel guides for every tour operator your rep details, departure times and local info.

There is a spa, games room, gym, snooker table, ten pin bowling, tennis courts, gift shop and archaeology centre.

General observations; The housekeeping is excellent never had a problem and the little details made me smile daily, they put our towels into kissing swans etc. Staff are well presented and cannot do enough for you seriously!! (And ladies there is an extremely hot guy on reception ;) )
There were a wide range of nationalities and disabilities with the resort which told us it was a good hotel as popularity and accessibility for all people. The fridge in your room opens with a nudge in the right direction ;) and the safety deposit box cost us 23 Euros for two weeks.

The village itself is a small fishing village with scenic streets and a busy harbour. There are many gifts shops with cheap duty free. On a Friday morning at 9am there is a market all I can say is go for the experience, keep your eyes peeled and bartar! There is a spar supermarket which stocks just about everything you need and one of the few places that stocks most English newspapers a hyper dino 9am -9pm across the road which isn’t as well stocked but generally more accessible and more convenient.
Checkout- you have to leave your rooms at 12pm and can leave your luggage in a room next to reception. We weren’t told any of this by reception staff it was word of mouth around the pool. Vacate rooms at 12pm and ask for vouchers for your meals so you can still eat. The courtesy room is open all day for you to use at your disposal. DVD, TV player, sofas, 3 bedrooms and baby cot, showers and fresh towels and toilet facilities.
The hotel is peaceful located beautifully, has a high standard of cliental and leaves no detail missed in making your holiday everything you need and more. 
If you want any more info (I wish I worked on commission at this point) feel free to email me samanthavva@hotmail.co.ik

Happy Holidays.
