“Unexpectedly great”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 8, 2013

We expected a good 4 star hotel experience. We got a much better than expected, excellent value for money holiday. The room was clean and serviced well, the food was amazing in its range of choice, quality and presentation and the grounds are stunning. Although the hotel was busy it never felt crowded because of the well laid out accommodation blocks and the outdoor facilities. Most staff were friendly and helpful and enhanced the holiday experience. Not only that the hotel is a very short walk to a beautiful, very attractive village and harbour/port area. definitely a place to return to, which is not something we often do!

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the south pool at the higher levels have excellent views

Stayed for the first time, at very short notice at this large, but far from impersonal hotel. On first sight was disappointed that it was much larger than had imagined, but the grounds are well laid out and it is possible to find quiet corners and privacy.
Had fully intended to upgrade to a suite, from standard room, but when they said the price difference was Eu 420, and having looked at the suite we did not think that price was good value. Would advise anyone considering upgrading to look at what they are getting.
However, apart from one other gripe, (we'll come back to that), the rest is good, standard rooms are spacious, lots of hanging space, great bathrooms, and this is probably the CLEANEST HOTEL - top to bottom, even including public area showers & toilets - I've ever stayed in !!
Staff are all unfailingly friendly, knowledgeable and helpful, keen to offer local bus timetables etc
Now to the gripe.....unless you have paid to upgrade to a suite there is absolutely no outside dining, which is what you want at lease some of the time when on holiday in sunny climate! Perhaps this is because of the size of place, possibly its impractical for almost 500 rooms could possibly be the reason, but its' a big negative & prompted us to eat out for 3 lunches and 3 evenings despite having paid half board. The whole inside experience is a bit corporate, and is below garden level with light from an atrium above, the nearest you can get to outside is the "pretend" indoor garden area, or the enclosed conservatory. It feels a little like eating in a Spanish style theme park! Albeit with much better food & service!
But the gardens are lovely, there are even some little hidden corners, like a cactus garden (behind the spa area), a spacious, beautiful day bed/ rest area at the pool side bar.
Also if you have (like us) a late check out requirement don't worry, this hotel has it sorted, a whole suite of little courtesy rooms with male/female shower suites, loads of fresh towels and seating & rest areas both indoor with air conditioning, and outside on a balcony area - ALL JUST 100 YARDS FROM THE POOL AREA. Fantastic facility at no extra charge. Congratulations to the management for this fab facility. Hotel is about 10 minutes easy walk from beach, town and port area, so location very good, would recommend for most types of traveller (apart from boutique hotel lovers).
All in all would return, especially as canaries weather unbeatable. Not much in way of excursions in locality, and capital Las Palmas is over an hour away, but for rest, sun & bit of luxury GREAT.

Room Tip: Took cues from other trip users, and got 5th floor overlooking small pool area, but really all views...

This excellent four star hotel is a definite cut above most other hotels in this category and delivers outstanding value and wonderful hospitality. The lush gardens are a special treat and there are many amenities including two huge very warm pools. The rooms are well maintained, very comfortable and well equipped. The staff are kind and well trained and do everything they can to help. There is a good balance of all ages and families are well catered for, although it is not a noisy hotel and different activities are sensitively arranged to ensure nobody is disturbed and there is something for everyone.
The breakfast is excellent and there is a huge variety of good quality food. The evening food is buffet style in the main restaurant, although there is an a la carte restaurant which I did not try. The dinner was plentiful and appetising.
You can walk down to the harbour front in a few minutes and there are pretty bars and restaurants and a clean safe beach. It is not spoilt and there is almost no large scale development which adds to its charm. Previously the downside of that was that Mogan was only reached by a windy road and the journey from the airport was over an hour. Now it is well under the hour, thanks to a new motorway that delivers you within a two or three miles of the door.

We are currently at the Cordial hotel in Puerto Morgan. Situated a short walk to a sheltered sandy beach (golden sand) and in a valley with volcanic cliffs either side, the hotel is packed with friendly, helpful staff. Food is plentiful, high quality and lots of choice. The rooms are spacious, comfortable and immaculately cleaned (lots of staff) they will change the sheets daily if you really want them to. The hotel is apparently full but it doesn't feel like it, there are lots of poolside beds and no shortage of them, buffet :-)buffet style meals are held in two sittings, no problem with queues or choices not available. An a la carte restaurant is available.

Around the pools are fantastic botanical gardens which you can explore down towards the beach. The port of Mogan is small but many beach side bars and cafes with sea food the speciality. A large beer is 2 euro and coffee and cake 3 euro.

There is evening entertainment, not the most exciting and last nights would not have won x factor but the G and T was excellent.

I can't fault this place, there are all ages but it is not noisy, rowdy or disruptive. Great weather, lovely clean pools and all the food and drink you could want. No real night life so if its clubbing you want then look elsewhere.

Many people appear to be return visitors, we will probably join them.

Room Tip: We are in 7212, west facing so hot in the evening but air con is OK. Block 7 is easy for the pool.

3rd stay here and rather disappointed! At the restaurant we were met and offered a table at the 'fish' end- which those of you who have stayed before know that area is cramped and has a school camp feel to it! When we requested a different area the manager in charge asked how many times we had stayed previously before offering us a nice seat to dine!
You might as well stay at the Valle next door and come in and use the pool and facilities at the Playa, as that is what some English families were doing and the management of Playa didn't stop them !
It is a shame as this is a very relaxing resort and hotel.
Reduan is very rude in the restaurant ,yet he always seems to 'wait' in the same area. Whereas staff such as Lazaro who has amazing customer service is placed at the back of the restaurant.
Hope this helps...

We (2 adults and 2 children) spent 10 days in the Cordial Valle Apts in April. This was our 5th visit. The new motorway extension is open and brings the journey from the airport down to just 40 minutes. We had a great size 2-bedroom apartment on one of the upper floors (the balcony was smaller than usual so we requested and were moved to one with a much larger balcony 2 days later). Puerto Mogan has retained its charm and feel, no sign of recession here. The complex and pools are well looked after, we both had treatments in the Spa, the kids liked the Kids-Club and the mini-disco every night was good too. Free Wi-Fi was good, housekeeping very good. Overall a great stay again.

Room Tip: Stay on a higher floor in the south (Sur) end.

From the moment we got into the hotel-arranged taxi, a luxury Merc limo, at the airport, we thought it was going to be good! Thirty-five minutes later, as we checked in, with a complimentary glass of bubbly in our hands, we thought, "It's getting better!" When we were taken to our room and saw the facilities, we thought it couldn't get much better, until we went for lunch! The variety on offer at the buffet astonished us, and the house wine was very palatable after a long journey.

At dinner, Christian, the excellent Public Relations Manager, greeted us warmly and showed us to a charmingly located table. The dinner buffet even exceeded the expectations set by lunch! The food was better than at any other hotel we have visited on mainland Spain or the other Canary Islands. We enjoyed a French appetizer, a Chinese starter, an Indian main course and a Spanish dessert. In fact, we have got to go back for at least a month to sample everything that was on offer!

I was able to practise my Spanish with our wonderful cleaning lady Ana-Maria, and in fact all the staff could not do enough to make our stay happy and comfortable. I also saved on perfume - the grounds smell so delicious because of the wonderful flowers and plants I decided I just couldn't compete! Finally, I must mention the complimentary wine and fruit left in the room on my birthday. We had a fantastic time. Thank you so much - see you again soon!
