“Pleasant stay at Parador Combate”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 25, 2014

We stayed at Parador Combate, Cabo Rojo for 3days/2nights during our 10 day trip to Puerto Rico in March '14. We really liked the hotel from the time we went in; the booking experience was good. They charged us 50% of the total amount first and the remainder during check-in. The staff was warm and gave us a LOT of information about what we should do at Cabo Rojo and around, places we should visit and where we can eat/hang out in Cabo Rojo. There is a beach 5min from the hotel and they provide towels so you have convenient access to the beach.

The hotel is in a wonderful location as well; the beach and restaurants are at a minute's walk; Playa Sucia is a 20-min drive. It is peaceful and yet well connected.
Just one thing: They have 2 buildings: one which seems like the main facility with a reception, breakfast-only restaurant, pool etc. and a new building which has about 10 rooms. This new building is like a minute walk away but doesn't have a reception (or at least I didn't see one). While the staff mentioned that they'll send over someone if we needed to immediately, you might want to request a room in the main facility in case you require regular assistance from front desk. (Which is why I have given a 3-rating to some questions)

We were going to Fajardo next and they gave us printed directions of the best route. Overall, we completely enjoyed our stay and the staff was very helpful. I'd definitely stay again if I were going.

The staff at the Parador Combate went above and beyond during my stay. I was traveling with 2 other individuals, and we had many questions about places to eat, dive, and things to do. Every person, and I mean every single staff member at the Parador Combate, was more than willing to find information, print it out, and explain their personal favorite spots and the pros and cons of different places. They gave us several restaurant recommendations, and all of them proved to be fantastic. My traveling party was amazed that we didn't eat a bad meal, and we constantly remarked about the superior service by the entire staff. The hotel was clean, well maintained, and easy to navigate within the area. The only comment I have to make is that the continental breakfast was relatively minimal--bagels, toast, and rolls or muffins with no fruit, yogurt, or eggs. However, you could order other food for an extra cost. Also the hotel charged $40 per extra person in the room, and we didn't realize that when we checked in with 3 people. Finally the beds were a bit hard, but I slept well nonetheless. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the Pardor Combate, and I would stay here again in a heartbeat!

wife and I both senior citizens-spend 6-8 wks. each winter in PR>and try to take trips around the enchanted island. we use t/a/ travel forums for our basic research and thx. to all that send in their reviews. we went here with all the positive reviews and were not disappointed. wife grew up near the jersey shore and was in 2nd heaven reliving her childhood. couldn't thank me enough for suggesting this trip--and I concur.
we toured this area pior to check in and found the lighouse, salt flats as reported. school bus had student field trip at light house while we were there. area is right on the sw tip of island and dependent on the water for its economic survival. the town is also very small. and summer is the busy season. we booked a 2 bed room via booking.com for a rate of $139 a night plus taxes. has had major renovations as reported in wonderful. tile flrs. flat screen tv on wall, refrig, new paint job, large bath with shower only. staff ready to help with smile on face and upbeat, check in prompt and one parking spot per room. pool refurbished lounge chairs around pool and pavilion there with cushioned furniture to read if want. original area probably served as outlet for drink snack concession around pool. kyak & bike rentals. leave back gate and a minute/two to beach. long sandy beach and few minutes in other direction annies bar rest. on the water in case you want to patronize while on beach.
we walked to annies for dinner and had excellent meal. wife talked to gals there down from Rincon for day and told us great food at great prices. we concurred. each had a couple drinks, fish dinner and our bill was approx. $46. walked back to hotel and had good night sleep on nice firm mattresses on the beds. no complaints for the parador and the restaurant. the free continental breakfast was fine with us. we usually don't get a free breakfast in our travels here so I am not going to get into a complaint I read in other review. orange juice couple cups of good coffee, toasted bagel to start the day was fine with us. if you want to go upscale you can order and pay accordingly. breakfast starts at 7:30 am. also dry serial also part of free breakfast. again we had a wonderful visit. talked to owner who retired from Johnson & Johnson after 25 yrs. up in new jersey. said he spent first 2-3 yrs. just upgrading as stated this was replica of the motels found back in the '60s and '70s. great spot

I was in this "parador" for two nights and it was a great experience. The rooms were very clean and modern, and the beach was just steps away from my room. The surrounding areas were perfect for birding and the sunsets in Combate Beach were unbeatable. The only downsides were that the wifi never worked in my room and I had a rude encounter with a so-called "Food Director" in the breakfast area. Other than that particular person, the rest of the staff was very amiable and considerate. When my cable didn't work one of them had no trouble in fixing it right away. By the way, don't expect anything outstanding out of the breakfast. The lady who attended us was very agreeable but the food was in general, stale. All in all, it's all worth it for the location. Nothing beats it.

Well kept Lodging . I was pleasantly surprise with the accommodations. Rooms are newly furnished, clean and with new linen. Excellent rate with a great location walking to town and direct access to the beach. The staff is extremely helpful and courteous. It also has a small convenient store equipped with every you need from bathing suit, books, food, bear, etc. Rooms are big enough for one to stay with family. I would certainly stay there again.

Room Tip: For larger rooms that can fit a family of four stay at their La Hacienda del Parador building.

Loved it! Clean, modern, beach access, amazing helpful staff.
Beach chairs/beach towels/
Loved it in the honeymoon suite. We will be back!
Note: the only weak thing was the breakfast included selections--kids cereal & stale bagels, bread & dinner rolls.
When in PR a banana& some fruit would be nice& a nicer food selection. If you pay you can order eggs, etc. but it defeats the all inclusive bfst you ve
Paid for. That could be easily
Made more appealing .
Great place overall/ helpful staff/
Totally safe& nice balconies.
