“Great location and nice rooms - but don't trust the restaurant staff.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 8, 2012

Gili Air Hotel is in a great location right on the beach and on the best side of the island if you like to watch the sunset! It also has a nice swimming pool. The rooms were nice (not luxury but fine). The bathroom was quite big and was nice and clean. Don't bother using the computer with free internet - it is way too slow - there are several internet cafes you can use instead on the island. Breakfast was good - you could get omlettes, banana pancakes etc. The bar serves food and drinks throughout the day and they will bring it to you on the beach.

I would recommend it - however, the main thing that let it down for me was the restaurant staff - they tried to rip us off and trick us into paying much more than our meal should have cost - and they were quite rude. Other than that it's a decent hotel.

Thank you for your feedback.
We apologies for any problems about restaurant staff.
I would like to explain about it, restaurant staff just bring you the bill which has been verified by cashier.
They first show a bill, that started in your bill. Some misunderstanding happen.
We share your comments with our team members and Direction, so we may make the necessary improvements.
Thanks again.

After staying already many times at several places on the Gilis (Gili Air, Meno, Trawangan, Nanggu) I can say: it's the top location most of all, which makes a stay at the Gili Air Hotel a pleasure again and again. Located on the tip of the north-eastern cape of Gili Air, the view to the east (sunrise and Gunung Rinjani) and west (sun set and Gunung Agung) is most spectacular, and the daily sunrise and sunset is a real dramatic happening, one mustn't fail to meet.

The rooms - well a bit neglected, but ok. And this year better maintained than years before.
The kitchen - well, a delicious bruschetta with a Campari Soda in the afternoon and one of the quite delicious pizzas at night, not to forget the breakfast buffet, which is a nice start into the days on Gili Air live down the sad fact, that in the middle of the sea it is nearly impossible here to get fresh fish (with fresh I mean really of the same day) ... But this is the same problem all over the Gilis - except the very small lodges, which buy from the fishermen directly. Al the Hotels and larger restaurants buy their fish at the fishmarket in Mataram in order to offer a broad spectrum of fish - but coming from the icebox.

The restaurant, the sunchair area, the pool, the gardens, this year all maintained satisfyingly.
Would I recommend the Hotel to friends ? Oh yes, the reasons you find above.

Paradise, very great position!
Superior room have very good verandahs beach front, was cleaned every day, with a change of bedsheets and sheets.
Pool was clean and very nice.
Breakfast included which was a buffet.
Really good Italian restaurant with pizza, pasta and fish barbecue.
Free internet and wifi.
Sunset and sunrise are only visible in this part of the island.
The staff are helpful, and friendly.

Nothing like the web site. Very run down tropical gardens you must be joking ... Eaten by bed bugs each night not pleasant. Luxury rooms are very overpriced and would only make 1 star

Do your self a favour steer clear of this place ... You would. E better to stay in lombok and get boat over for day trip than waste your money a this place

we arrived yesterday early afternoon after deciding that we did not want to stay in Lombok as we could not snorkle where we were!!
i read some of the other reviews and i was a little concerned instead i was pleasantly surprised!
Yes the place might be a bit "basic" but we are on a tiny small island in the middle of the ocean, not really sure what people expects from places like this? i'm pleased with the little "impact" on nature this place has actually, the grounds are as natural as possible with flowering indigenous bushes and palm trees, the rooms while simple and maybe a bit outdated in terms of furniture etc. but very clean and with comfortable beds and clean sheets. the staff is sweet, smiling and welcoming, and the burgas on the beach are the most comfortable place to spend the day between snorkeling trips to the beach........ which by the way has beautiful water and two breakers which host a large variety of fish and sea urchins besides some of the longest sea slugs i've ever seen!
breakfast is ok, all you might need is there (and you must remeber where you are) the food and the juices are quite good here!! we went to a warung in the village last night for a delicious meal of indonesian food, ridiculous money for what we ate (EU 14) for the three of us, walking all along the beach to reach the village under a pitchblack sky full of stars! took us i think 20 to 30 minutes and it was the perfect thing to do after a meal!
At the end we got exactley what we wanted, peace, quiet, sandy beach, nice snorkeling without having to leave the hotel, nature at its best! will never change it for some of the others more posh for sure, but in the middle of the bars, restaurant by the dozen, that are down along the coast closer to the harbor.......
Giliair Hotel was a good choice, we have 5 more days and for sure return!

Room Tip: we were in 03 but i recommend the 10 and up right in front of the beach where we were moved today

From the time we arrived the staff bent over backwards to help. The italian restaurant on the premises was absolutely deeeelicous. The only hotel on the island who has buffet breakfast. The bar was perfect. The room was very comfortable. I didnt have not one complaint. The guy who organises the scuba diving took us out on his day off to teach me snorkeling as I have never done this before and he was the best teacher I could have asked for. You have a choice at night of a bbq they do or the restaurant and we did both and both was excellent. I cant wait to go back.
