“Overpriced, no beach views, backyard used as a dumping ground”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed February 7, 2012

There are NO beach views whatsoever from any of the villas unlike what travel websites and images would have you believe. We booked the Ocean Breeze Cottage which appeared on both Agoda and Gili Islands tourism websites as being right on the beach, which is what we wanted. Instead, this villa is at the back of the property overlooking a run down backyard comprising of piles of rubbish, a burnt down tent, and general leftover construction parts that they clearly could not be bothered disposing of in a proper manner. The yard is also open to the next properties, which means there are random people running through the place which is far from ideal. It is extremely noisy due to this, even though Gili Air is renowned for being a quiet and laid back island. There was no hot water EVER, we understand that the power cuts off on a regular basis but the generators never warmed up the water, which meant we had to have cold showers. No power + no generator + no running water = no flushing toilet. You do the maths. The whole place has a very eerie feel to it too, there are creepy teddy bears and other ad hoc decorations strewed around the place and in the villas. None of this is depicted in any description of the place.

This place is horrible, I have no idea how they think they can get away with charging the exorbitant prices that they do. We managed to secure another gorgeous villa just by the harbour, with constant hot water, flushing toilet, beautiful pool and overlooking the ocean for a third of the price that we paid here - this is embarrassing and completely unacceptable. Tanya, the owner is also extremely deceiving, she had us believe that she would have happily refunded our money but since we had booked through Agoda we had to get them to sort it out as she would not be paid for 1 month - she plainly LIED to our faces as Agoda cannot refund the money unless the hotel agrees to it, which she refused to do once we contacted Agoda. I have been gomsmacked at this utter lying from her part and extreme lack of customer service. I have never in my life experienced anything like this and felt the need to warn others as this was an extremely unpleasant experience to have to encounter on our holiday. I am completely dissatisfied with both the service and with what we received as it is not, at all, what we booked for.

I have also tried, on many occasions over the last 6 weeks to get in touch with Casa Mio Villas however they have not even had the decency to answer one single email. I wish I had read the review from July before booking as this is the exact experience we had, except we were not lucky enough to have our unused nights (6 in total) refunded as per the other customers. Book another villa. Anywhere else would be a palace compared to this place.

Room Tip: If you must stay here, ask for one of the villas closer to the entrance - the further back into the...

Casa Mio is a very relaxed place to live on the quiet part of Gili Air. Granted Gili Air is sort of quiet all around but on the short strip of beach where most resorts are located there is most the bars and restaurants too and does feel slightly more "touristy". I am glad we did not end up there. On this side of the island you also have a stunning view of the sunset.

The owners are very kind and helpful and the restaurant connected to the resort is right on the beach. The beach I would not say is very suitable for snorkelling or bathing but you could always walk to another part of the island for that. I found it very relaxing and also much enjoyed the food, especially the seafood. Service is good for being Indonesia, meaning it's friendly but not always efficient - but who needs efficient when your on an island? Things are what they are, electricity can go at any time, fresh water needs to be shipped from Lombok etc. but again that's the case for all the resorts and really I was not bothered, rather I liked it. I prefer the isolated location on my holiday.

The cottages are big but rather close together and not on the beach just so you know. The names of the cottages can sort of fool you in that way. Most resorts on Gili Air are not right on the beach anyway. The rooms are clean and big. I think this was the first time on our trip to Indonesia where I had a nice hot shower with great water pressure. Granted the decorations are a bit wacky. On evenings they show movies on a big screen in the beach restaurant. I thoroughly enjoyed watching blockbusters with my toes in the sand and a cold Bintang in hand.

Be aware that during Ramadan you will hear the chanting of the local mosque all night long. When it stops the rooster starts. Price wise it's a bit on the high end. We stayed in the Ocean Breeze Cottage which was perfect for two people, a bit to the side of the other cottages (further from the beach) and a little bit less expensive. We stayed for 5 nights and that was more than enough to do the island.

Stayed here on my honeymoon and in many ways preferred it to the fancy resorts we enjoyed elsewhere. Richard is always helpul and willing to share some local info. The food is really delicious, fresh and plentiful at goo prices. The view is the best on the island. But beware if u don't like iguanas b/c 2 visited us in our garden bathroom. Also, it's not on te main strip, but only a 10-min walk away. And u hear the call to prayer from a local mosque.

+ : The service was good and the owners very nice, they catered to all our needs. The rooms were cleaned every day in an appropriate manner. We had dinner twice at the beach restaurant and were pleasantly surprised by the yumminess of the food. The hotel is only 10min away from the centre, and I've seen worse walks than along the beaches of Gili Air!

- : the "ocean view" cannot be seen from the room and the decoration is very kitsch.

The title says it all no ocean view what so ever, in a really bad spot on the island, the most overpriced place I have ever stayed in my life Would be worth around 30 or 40 dollars in my books we were paying 120. The male owner was nice the female owner was extremely difficult(they are Taiwanese and quite hard to understand also) When I asked her what was wrong with our power( the power goes out every 5 mins, the air con, tv, and lights) we were told that a generator comes on at 10 and to use the fans and wait. We. explained we were trying to watch a movie and she said"you wait till later then watch it" and she walked away". That was the final straw for us and we politely asked for a refund(we had payed for 4 nights)and she told us that we booked with agoda and to sort it out with them. When I asked the male owner the same question he was very helpful offering us his phone to call agoda which we greatly appreciated. When we finally sorted it out with agoda we were very happy to get our 3 nights back as it would of just been a waste of our money seeing as we were on a budget. All in all I hope this helps anyone looking at this accomodation

We stayed at the Villa Casa mio for 2 nights. At first we were impressed with the room facilities in our villa (the love house) as well as the outdoor bathroom. The owners were welcoming and helpful. We slept very badly however, the bed was unfomfortable and there was a lot of noise, what with the animals walking on the roof and the call for the Prayer at 5am from the local Mosque......Another negative point was that our room was not cleaned on the second day......

The breakfast however was amazing, fresh fruits and fruit juices which were sumptous. The owners were willing to help us in every way, which is always nice when you are discovering a new place. They have lovely little huts and sofas where you can chill out and have a drink whilst watching the ocean. It's a very relaxing place, not much to do, just lie back and watch life go by. On the whole, it was rather positive.
