“AMAZING”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 1, 2013

The thing I'm remember the most are the family who owns matahari!! There are truely terrific! You feel part of the family and on such a small quiet island it really is nice :)
The bungallows are cheap and super cute, the fairy tale kind... Really comfy and with a roofless bathroom, showing while watching the stars in the evening is something I will surely miss. The beautiful clear ocean is on your doorstep with lots of shaded gazebos to chill and eat in.... And do eat there as the food is great real homemade local Indonesian food :) and also inexpensive

My friend and I went for 2 days and needed up staying 7 as we opulent bear to leave !!!!

Returned to Matahari for 3 nights after a gap of 2 years. It was good to be back in Gilli Air. I stayed a newer bungalow facing the sea and it was quite big and clean. The shower area was open and quite spacious as well. And it was quite reasonable on the pocket considering the prices have remained more or less the same. Food was good and we had ordered freshly caught grilled fish on a few occasions. Service was attentive as always. Look forward to going back soon. Also this time twice ventured out to snorkel and the reef off the Bungalow is nice and doesn't become deep till about 300-400m in.

Room Tip: Get a bungalow on the beach. Rates can be negotiated between 150K-200K Rupiah/night

Everything about these bungalows is fantastic except that there is a beachside bar next door called Space Bar which plays impossibly loud psychedelic trance sometimes until 5 in the morning. We moved after 2 nights even though it is probably one of the best locations on the island. How can a place like Space Bar, which is destroying the serenity and disturbing tourists and locals alike, be allowed to exist?? We were on the main stretch of Gili Meno a couple of weeks later and were kept awake by the music from across the sea - amazing!

This island is absolutely magical with one of the best sunsets i have seen anywhere in the world. Food is cheap, bunglows are decent and its 20ms from the beach. Food is authentic Indonesia with the local flavours. Loved the staff since they were very friendly and formed a bond from the first day i was there. Spend 4 nights there. Mark was my man at the bar. Love to go back and never leave. Paradiso!!!

Room Tip: Just ask for a villa closest to the beach and the resturant!!! And Mark for service.

Inexpensive spot in paradise. Food is delicious. Service is nice. My room was facing the sea. The only problem being the fact that, standing in front of a coral reef, it's hard to go for a swim during low tide. Wonderful nonetheless.

This spot is pure paradise. Full stop. Look no more for beachfront cottages on the most beautiful beach on Gili Air. This place is magical. The family who runs it are genuine, kind and exude Indonesia hospitality. The food is cooked by a lovely lady who makes the best Gado-Gado and traditional Indonesia rice, egg, and chicken.

The bathroom is outside - not an outhouse but rather a roofless bathroom. So you can imagine the view from your evening shower or morning pit-stop.

Heaven on earth.

We stayed at The Matahari Bungalows for 7 nights.
The service was very nice with all the staff saying hello and in some cases they will remember your name witch i thought was great.
The first room we were offered was not to the best of standards. The air conditioner did not work and the room had a moldy odour to it. We were then offered a new room witch was comfortable clean and really all you need if your staying in Kuta to shop and party.
The bathrooms were ok nothing flash.
The staff will come around to your room about 9am or so to service it and there are no do not disturb signs so if you dont answer your door they will walk in.
The gardens were very nice.
Watch out while swimming in the pool because the tiles need replacing and could cause small cuts while your walking or playing in the pool. I only ate there once and i would not recomend it there were flys and bugs around the breakfast fruit and buns.
There is a bar called Heven its just outside the hotel lobby. The staff are very friendly and will sit and chat to you. Great music and free wi fi internet.
The hotel is close to everything clubs pubs shops beach.
