“small cafe that offers anything”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 2, 2013

Very unique place, more like an antique shop than a cafe. the food is very varied, ranging from healthy food to naughty food that makes your diet ruined (well, worth every single bite :) , not to mention the juice, so far the best in the gili, coffee is a great way to spend time while looking at the beach. Certainly one of the places that must be visited during stay at Gili Trawangan.

“A welcome, stylish retreat amidst the 'vin ordinaire' line up on Gili T”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 30, 2013

Kayu Cafe ticks all our boxes... No touts, great little menu, clean & comfortable with a nod to traditional Indonesian style. We sat in the cute little beachfront terrace looking over to Lombok while enjoying great pasta and falafel platter. So nice to see someone make an effort to bring a little style to what has become a very tawdry strip. Well worth a visit.

“Best Cafe on Gili Trawangan”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 26, 2013

I think i can consider myself as a regular customer since Kayu Cafe open around 3 months ago. By Living in Gili with very limited choice, i am happy to spend time for brunch or just an late afternoon coffee, and Good Coffee they have! Either when i need to work on my laptop in cozy aircon inside or just reading my book outside and having ice latte :)
I always recommend my customers / guests about this place as I know that this cafe is a must to visit especially when you are aiming for good healthy food!
Thanks to all Kayu Cafe crew to make this place happening and we can have decent coffee on gili Trawangan. Keep up the good work!

“Great place, great people, great food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 20, 2013

This little cafe has a great atmosphere, very nice seating on the beach, very helpful staff and realy nice food. We stayed on Gilli T for one week and went there every single day, for lunch or cake. Variety vegetarian dishes, cakes and others. Our two kids (4 and 6) loved the food too. Relaxed, clean and nice place.

“Good place, bad taste”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed June 12, 2013 via mobile

My friends and i just got back from gili trawangan few days ago..and we did once had lunch at kayu cafe..

We went there right after we arrived in gili trawangan..we were all sweaty after a long walk from the harbour and we thought that this cafe is a nice place to chillax..

Well, the cafe does have air cons..it's clean and in shorts, it's a nice cafe..

Unfortunately the food arent that good.. :( (dunno if we're ordering wrong menus or whatsoever)
I ordered fried rice with chicken which tasted a lil bit "off"..can't say it was delicious or yummy.. :(
My friend ordered a quiche..which looked weird..and it was served with salad..but the topping they used for the salad is neither mayonaisse or thousand island..instead they used something brown with black sprinkle (which at a glance looked like a black pepper sauce..but it's not) and tasted weird..
And my brother and his gf ordered fried noodle which was too salty and slightly tasted better than my fried rice..(had to add some sweet soy sauce to make the noodle tasted a lot better and "eatable")
We also ordered ham and cheese panini with sundried tomatoes..it tasted ok (but we have to dig inside the paninis to get the tomatoes out of it because the tomatoes were tasted "yucks")

The drinks were a lot more fine..but my brother's drinks which should be fresh young coconut water turned out to be coconut milk..lol..

And the waitress there..i dunno..they were locals but they seemed as if they don't understand indonesian.. :(

Many thanks for your time to review our cafe. We greatly appreciate feedback from our guests and we apologize that your experience did not meet your expectations.
As a three-month-old operation, we are still at the initial stage of staff training and system set-up. We strive to deliver service and food the best we can and we have addressed your issues. We are quite surprised to hear this as we have never had any similar complaints. We would have been more than happy to replace the food or refund your money if you had reported this to us.
Regards the salad dressing, you are correct, it’s neither mayonnaise nor thousand island. It’s a blend of extra virgin olive oil, balsamic vinegar, shallots and sea salt, sprinkled with freshly cracked black pepper. I hope this explains the color and texture.
We hope to see you again in the future.
Best regards,
Rina
