“Too expensive”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2014 via mobile

Great service but since last month prices have gone up too much. They now include tax and service in bill, but I paid 70 000 for mahi mahi last month is now 120,000rp, which means it went from 70,000 to 99,000 before tax and sevice. And I had the bonus of 5 big bones. Thanks but no thanks. I had tuna steak at rudys for 45 000 with salad. Sorry Beach House. I tried to have a nice night out with my husband but was shocked by your prices. Wont be back. Note that they told me everyones prices went up but Gili Pearl is the same. Which is where i will go!

Hello

We note your comments re pricing but we need to clarify that the most popular restaurants on Gili T, with the policy of turning over, particularly seafood, very quickly or throwing it out, in order to ONLY present the freshest possible fish, have all adjusted their pricing

With the cost of fuel having risen so dramatically in Indonesia, those businesses dedicated to freshness and quality are finding the transport costs to bring food from Bali extremely high, plus the costs of operating 24 hour generators to negate the daily power outages (leaving fish without adequate refrigeration for many hours in many restaurants) thus we have all needed to adjust pricing to meet the costs

There are certainly businesses on the island who perhaps are prepared to keep and serve fish that is perhaps not as fresh, therefore using much of the fish they bring over. They also buy their fish from different suppliers

I know for us, and the other better restaurants on the island, the adage 'you get what you pay for' reflects the freshness and quality of our produce, and with fish I know that I, particularly, would keep this in mind when choosing my meal from the many restaurants serving seafood on the island

“Worst dining experience”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2014 via mobile

We decided to eat here following good reviews and a recommendation by our hotel. After travelling Indonesia for a month I can honestly say this restaurant stands out as one of the worst.

We went for the buffet as looking at the fish on offer it looked quite fresh. When the fish arrived it was very overlooked and it seemed as if the chef had just thrown in on the BBQ with no effort to season/ debone/ de head. The buffet itself was in edible- dried up salad that looked as if it had been sat there for hours and the jacket potatoes were rock solid.

We had one fish between us as a couple, one beer and one tea and the bill came to 600idr (£30). We were so shocked we questioned it but apparently it was correct. Won't be coming back and don't recommend!!

Hello

We were surprised to read your review and would like to address your issues:

Firstly, what we offer is our popular seafood BBQ where you have an enormous selection of seafood (and meats) and the guest selects HOW they would like the fish cooked and/or, for those who don't really understand the way fish is BBQ'd, an à la carte menu, which not only offers further choices, but is designed particularly for those who don't understand the object of barbecuing and the eating of freshly caught whole fish.

All the whole fish we offer are small, suitable for barbecuing whole for one person, or shared between two. With our per gram prices, clearly displayed, it is impossible for one fish, one cup of tea and a beer to cost $60 and we have gone through all the invoices for your period and not found one that corresponds with your published cost...

As is normal any whole fish selected from the BBQ display is barbecued with head on, and is not deboned. As the barbecue is right next to the fish display it is obvious and very clear that whole fish is barbecued whole. As all our fish are absolutely fresh, the joy of having it barbecued over coconut husks is to experience the taste of really fresh fish imbued with the subtle taste of the coconut shells which form the coals. Leaving fresh whole fish with heads on and bones in enhances the flavour of the fish, and keeps the flesh moist. Had you wanted a sauce to eat with the fish, you simply needed to ask. We also offer, on the salad table, a range of condiments to choose from for both the proteins and the salads

Furthermore had you wanted barbecued fillet of fish, you would have seen, on the exact same display as the whole fresh fish, a row of fresh fillets of different fish. These are selected from larger fish and are suitable for barbecuing as fillets. All are marinaded in various sauces and the choice ranges through snapper fillets, mahi mahi fillets, barramundi fillets, swordfish fillets. All this is clearly marked, as is the obvious difference between the various fish, and the various methods of cooking the fish

As we are serving 300 or so dinners a night during this period it is absolutely impossible for salad to sit more than 15 minutes at a time. There are several staff whose sole job is to constantly top up the salad bar as it is in such heavy demand. The air-conditioned area of the kitchen is directly behind the salad bar and in here the kitchen staff keep up a steady flow of cutting slicing and dicing salads to top up. Our salads are fresh, varied and interesting - to such an extent that we have many diners asking if they can pay just for the salad selection. The potatoes are always hot and freshly prepared, so again your claim they were like rocks takes us by surprise

We always appreciate all kinds of feedback and, certainly, with valid and constructive criticism, we endeavour to address issues we feel are well-noted with valid points made. I'm afraid, with your feedback, there is nothing we feel we can add, or change, as we simply feel that your points are not at all in accordance with how a beachside BBQ works, and hence are not issues we need to address, merely explain so that others don't make the fish selection mistake your party made, if searching for a fish prepared a certain way

We stand firmly behind the quality and freshness of both our fish and our salads, and also our pricing

“Nice Outdoor Setting”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 7, 2014

We were there for dinner and had the traditional Ayam Bumbu Bali and Prawn Balado. The food was just average. We like the seats on the upper deck, cosy and nice but can get really windy and cold at night.

“Good service, lousy food”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 7, 2014

The food had no taste at all and was far from we expected for that price. They took it seriously when we told them, and was very polite. I still cannot recommend anyone to eat here.

We are sorry to hear you didn't enjoy the taste of simply cooked fresh fish.

We would suggest that maybe next time you should try a marinated fillet, in coconut milk, or tomato and garlic (also clearly displayed on the BBQ table) or choose from the extensive a la carte menu where we have Asian and Indonesian spicy food, in addition to traditional Western dishes.

Hopefully you'll change your mind and try us again next time and have a better experience, like the large percentage of our guests, and the next time ask our very helpful staff for their suggestions...

“Good service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 4, 2014

Decided to come here for seafood as the range of food seemed quite good. You pick what you want, (cost according to quantity/weight) and they will grill it for you. The skewers and tiger prawns were good but the snapper was pretty bland. Comes with free flow rice, potatoes and salad when you spend above 70k rupiah. Service was quick and attentive.

Had tiramisu for dinner and it was surprisingly good!
