We had the best room (beach front villa) and thus also paid highest price, but we were very disappointed with the performance. Only 1 big towel for two adults, no hot water (only warm), no glasses for mini bar, many things of the room were damaged (e.g. walls broken, door lock broken, curtains broken, door broken). Thus, cheap quality and now maintenance (hotel is only 1,5 years old and already going down).
Owners are British and thus have influence on the restaurant (e.g. fish and chips- who wants to eat that!?, English Cider- who wants to drink that?!). In summary, you get the impression that owners can't get enough money out of the visitors, e.g. soft drinks cost twice as much as 10 meters away, boat shuttle to Gili T more than twice the price as a few meters away, wines skyrocketing high. This is definitely NOT a boutique hotel
Beach front villa has a nice view

Thank you for your review for MAHAMAYA Boutique Resort.
We were very saddened to read your comments about your experience in our resort.
We are a small family run resort and we all work very hard to ensure that all of our guests have a pleasant experience with us and you did not make these comments at any point during your stay.
We are always saddened when guests prefer to write negative comments online rather than give us the opportunity to ensure your have a pleasant time during your stay with us.
We the owners were particularly surprised to read your comments as we talked with you many times during your stay and you informed us first hand that you felt we had created a wonderful resort and at no point did you mention your many disappointments. Our whole team were also really very disappointed as you also gave the team the impression that you had a fantastic stay with us even at your point of check-out when we personally bid you farewell.
To clarify some of your points, we do provide as standard in the rooms 2 large bath towels and 2 large pool towels, 2 glasses in the room to compliment our unlimited free mineral water and hot water in the showers. Our housekeeping department check all rooms every day but if you found anything was lacking during your stay you need only ask and we would have ensured that we took care of all your wishes. Due to to harsh conditions on the island, the very high temperatures, the humidity along with the salty sea air and the tropical rain, our maintenance department programme is on-going through-out the year. We are indeed only open for 18 months and we have already re-painted our resort two times. Our challenge is actually maintaining the condition of the resort and scheduling works so that they have minimum impact on our guests and for this reason we do not undertake such work during high season. Please be assured that any maintenance issues are always dealt with and added to our schedule of works.
We firmly believe that we provide great quality food and drinks and good value for money. We provide a total and unique experience of a very high standard at MAHAMAYA. Owner and executive chef Jar is an Indonesian chef with many years International experience and he works incredibly hard to ensure all guests have an enjoyable dining experience. He has created a unique and exciting menu on our tiny island, using the finest ingredients available locally. The co-owners are indeed British and there are two British items on the whole menu which you did mention. These items are actually very popular in the restaurant but if you prefer something different we do offer a variety of dishes and drinks to choose from! Prices in our restaurant are of course different from local warungs however that the quality, the menu variety, the service and our unique environment at MAHAMAYA is very different to that offered in local warungs. To be precise, the cost of a soft drink at MAHAMAYA would cost approximately €1.30. We serve only imported spirits in our bar and as alcohol is taxed at 400% in Indonesia then there is of course a premium for genuine products. To clarify we actually make very little profit on wine as we prefer our guests to enjoy their experience. We also offer wine by the glass for those guests not wishing to splash out on a bottle. We may be higher priced than simple Indonesian warungs but we are competitively priced with the other top rated restaurants in Lombok and Indonesia. We recognise that our design and price point is not suited to everyone, especially to those that prefer more simple options. We also recognise that no matter how hard we try it is not possible to please everyone all the time.
In terms of cost of boat transfers, we offer a smooth and hassle free service and we use local island people to provide that service. Of course if you negotiate hard with the locals then you may be able to find cheaper prices. We have a set rate with our suppliers and as part of our sustainability ethos and to support the local population this rate is non-negotiable as we choose to pay the local people what we consider is a fair rate so they can also make their living. There is a public boat service from the harbour for those guests that do not wish to pay for their own private charter service.
We very much hope that we can welcome you back to MAHAMAYA again and we can ensure that your next stay is truly memorable.
