My partner and I spent two weeks at this hotel and we honestly don't understand why people love this hotel so much. Our expectations were extremely high after reading so many rave reviews, however, after two weeks of problems with the room and mediocre food we feel extremely let down and were left wishing we had booked elsewhere.
Our room was shabby and very basic and we were clearly under some kind of generator or fan that meant there was a constant hum/buzz. After 5 days we cracked and asked reception to move us and the following day we were offered another room. We moved, but soon wished we hadn't as the new room stank of vinegar/drains alternately and had plumbing problems and a dirty air conditioning unit that make us both feel ill. The water swung between hot and cold, it spluttered worryingly and, on 3 occasions, we had no water at all. Once, I was half way through showering when it ran out and simply had to stand and wait until it came on some 8-10 minutes later. The smell of the air conditioning unit meant we were reluctant to turn it on and so we had to sleep with the sliding door open, meaning that sleep was next to impossible until around 1-2am.
The food was nice in the mornings and there was a good selection at breakfast, however, dinner was very disappointing. There were few coherent meals you could put together, you just had to have a mish mash of poorly cooked, ill conceived dishes. We began avoiding dinner in the second week, choosing to eat elsewhere rather than face picking through what was on offer in the hope of finding something decent. We gave the hotel one last chance and went back on our last night but things were no better.
The staff are friendly and welcoming, but no more so than other hotels I have stayed at and certainly not enough to make up for the deficiencies elsewhere.
One nice touch which the hotel deserves credit for was the staff arranging to leave a bottle of sparkling wine in our room on my partner's birthday - that was a lovely surprise when we returned. This or something similar has happened in all other hotels we have stayed at on his birthday - I'm not being at all ungrateful, just pointing out it is not evidence of superior service!
The location of the hotel was pretty good - it was only a short walk into the centre. However, the amusements across the road were noisy and distuarbing if, as I have mentioned, you had to leave your balcony doors open. Es Canar is a great little place and there was more to do than I anticipated with a good range of bars and cafes and a fairly relaxed atmosphere.
All in all, it was a very disappointing stay and we were very happy to come home in the end, which is sad, but shows how substandard we found the hotel. Es Canar did not disappoint, but the Paraiso Beach Hotel did and we will never return.
Contrary to a previous reviewer's opinion, you certainly should read ALL of the reviews, positive and negative, and make up your own mind whether or not it is for you - that's surely the point of using Trip Advisor in the first place!
