we have just returned from 14 days holiday at the hotel miami (4-18th june), staying half board in room 136, on the first floor overlooking the pool and beach.
we had a really good family holiday both at the hotel and in the resort of es canar.
the good points of the hotel are: the food, at breakfast there was a great selection, frest pancakes, full english, bread, cakes, meat, cheese, eggs the list goes on. Evening meals also had a great hot and cold selection, a children's buffet and lovely desserts and fresh fruit. Don't get me wrong it wasn't the best food we've ever had but it was better than your average 3star food. the staff also made a real effort with the theme nights and the presentation of the dishes. we did eat out a couple of times in the evening but only because we fancied a change and there are some really nice resturants in es canar.
we got maid service every day, the public areas of the hotel were keep spotless. the toliets in reception and down by the pool were checked regulary.
we travelled with first choice and my little boy went to the first choice kids club quite a few times. the girls were great most days they was at least two, two hour sessions and they were also at the mini disco in the evening. there was also an hotel run entertainment programme but i think this was more for the older children although they had there own club room with a soft play area and climbing wall that first choice also used.
the entertainment in the evening was the usually cheesy shows, parrott show, musical reviews, etc.
the location of the hotel is great, right on the beach and a short walk into resort. if you walk the right out of reception and over the cliffs you get to the cala nova beach which we thought was a lot nicer than the main beach of es canar, there is a really well stocked supermarket and two lovely resturants.
the bad points were, service at the bars in the evening was slow you had to queue for ages to get a drink, there were waiters but you were lucky to attract their attention, they spent most of thier time clearing tables.
the walls are paper thin and we did get distrubed at night and in the morning when the cleaning started, i would suggest earplugs if you are a light sleeper.
the rooms are quite basic, there was no hairdryer, shaving point and no light on the balacony.
the pool area is very small and there are no where near enough sunloungers, we tended to go to the beach ourselves but i can see that this could be a problem when the hotel is full.
es canar itself is very touristy, it wan't cheap but that might be because the euro exchange rate is so bad at the moment. to give you an idea, a bottle of beer is 2.50 euros, an english newspaper 2.00 euros, a bottle of wine in a bar 5 euros, sunbeds on the beach were 4 euros per day.
outside of es canar they is plenty to do, we hired a car for a few days and it was really easy to get about as there wasn't many cars on the roads.
from es canar they are plenty of boat trips, we took the boat trip to eivissa, it cost 14 euros for adults,7 euros for children but it really is worth walking round the old town as it is very pretty and they are great views.
there is also a tourist mini train which does three trips a day to various places.
personally i wouldn't bother with the hippy market at punta aribi, we went and it was really busy and hectic and the stalls were just selling tourist trinkets. if you want to go to a hippy market try las dalias on a saturday, it is loads more tradtional and smaller and seemed more authentic. a taxi from es canar costs 8 euros each way .
