We booked a couple of days before we traveled and got a fantastic deal through First Choice who were great from start to finish
The hotel is positioned on a small hill overlooking the resort of Es Cana and about 150m to the beach and small harbour were is season you can get ferries to other parts of the island.
When we arrived at the hotel is seemed the whole coach was staying there as well but check in was lightning fast and carried out with a smile by the superb reception team. We were given a free upgrade to poolside rooms on the 6th floor, these rooms are ok if you do not have young children and are not bothered by the noise that goes with the entertainment around the pool each evening. If you prefer a quieter room ask for one on the road side of the hotel.
The entertainment here is really good with the animation team of 4 looking after everyone but not being to pushy, if you wanted to join in great, if not then that was fine too. Daytime activities consisted of aerobics, various games and water polo with a kids club run in a dedicated club house. In the evenings it was a kids disco followed by a booked act that finished around 11.30. They did play bingo which I normally hate but it was free and very light hearted so most people joined in. The bar did stay open until 12 and served a wide range of good quality drinks, some people on here said the bar staff were unfriendly but I never found that, no matter how busy they were they always had time for a laugh and would recommend drinks if you hadn't tried them before. In fact all the staff are a credit to the hotel, even so late in the season they all had a welcoming smile and took the time to talk to you.
The pool area is divided into 2 with a upper and lower pool, there where loads of loungers (I know we went late but the hotel was full when we got there for the first couple of days) and areaswere you could find both direct sun and shade.
Meals were of a very good quality with the best desserts I have ever had in a Spanish hotel, I can believe it could get busy at peak times of the year as everyone queues one way to go around the hot buffet plates. The paella is particularly good here, it uses good quality short grain rice and excellent seafood. There was also a cavery or show cooking section in the centre for both lunch and dinner, drinks are self service and the red wine the better of the three.
It would be unfair to rate the resort as it had started to close for the season, indeed most of the resort staff where on our flight home on the Friday but it is very small and intimate and would suit couples and families with small children.
Overall I think we got a great hotel at a very good price and I would have no hesitation in returning for another week next year,
