“Chilled and Sun Tanned”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 28, 2013

Es Cana is great for a chill out week, its been 20 years since we last came, not changed much in that time. If you like a small relaxed resort then this is the place. We stayed at the Fiesta Hotel Cala Nova, Jet2 excellent price for half board. The Hotel............Well you get what you pay for so not going to pull it down (too much). Food was ok, lots to choose from, usual buffet style for a big hotel. We thought Breakfast was good to see us through the day. Room..........mmmmmmmm, 1st floor 105, small room, interconecting door that everyone complains about is a pain and the walls do seem thin, This is the noisiest hotel we have ever stopped in, bang bang bang, our next door neighbours kept trying to block the gap at the bottom of the door with newspaper, i guess to stop the light and all the noise we must have been making !!!! We were overlooking the front carpark, buses, lorries, dustbin collection 07:30am, deliveries, water lorry, motorbikes, cars. etc etc. No sea view, room seemed to feel damp i think because it didnt get any sun, Try to avoid this side and get a higher room. We did find the hotel clean and the cleaners and restaurant staff were all very pleasant. The Staff on the reception apart from the new trainee were not so friendly or helpfull. Location is great and its on the beach, we went to the beach everyday the 10euro for the sunbeds is worth it.. (watch out for the nudists in the middle) 10 min walk into Es Cana for the shops and bars. Have a car for a few days and go see all the island. We will come back again in another 20 years............

Room Tip: Avoid the carpark side, go higher............................

My girlfriend and I stayed at the Fiesta Cala Nova hotel from 16th to 23rd September, after reading the reviews beforehand. We were not disappointed either. We arrived late at night and had a quick bite in the restaurant before going up to our room number 236. The room was very clean and well maintained, and the breakfast choice each day was very varied and provided something for everyone. The ladies working in the restaurant each day were very hard working and kept well on top of everything,as well as being very polite and attentive to guests. The food in this hotel was fantastic and as I have stayed in a lot of hotels in the past,I know how good this place is .The pool area was clean and tidy,as was the hotel generally. We thought the barman in the restaurant was a really nice person who was always happy to have a chat with the guests. The resort was nice with plenty of places to eat, drink etc.I think Es cana is a really nice resort for families with young children or couples with a good bus service to Santa Eularia and Cala Llonga. All in all,I would strongly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for value for money with good food, friendly staff .The only thing that I would have liked would have been a fridge in the room ,but its not a big deal when everything else was so good.

John and Sarah

Room Tip: If you go higher up in the hotel it may be quieter ,but we were on the 2nd floor and still slept ok

The hotel Fiesta Cala Nova is very good for a 3* hotel. Just back from 2 weeks as a party of 3, our room on the 4th floor was clean, comfortable and a good size with a lovely outlook over the bay. We had clean towels every day and the linen was changed every other day. However one of our party had room number 414, you would not want a room with a number between 1-14 or 50-60 on any floor. These rooms are above reception, with guests arriving at all times of the day and night, buses reversing about 200 meters with buzzers going to the front door, cases and people arriving at all time, the noise makes it very very difficult to sleep.
The food at Cala Nova was wonderful we did not have any day when we were disappointed, with a great selection and variety, but for me, forget bacon at breakfast, but, the orange juice was the best I have had outside Florida. However, the outside eating area is too small; many guests were disappointed looking for a table. With so many guests in the Cala Nova the restaurant has to be large but it does feel like a canteen so a larger outside area would solve that.
The pool area is clean and has many sun beds and umbrellas’, when greedy people don’t take an umbrella each, pool attendants should move them first thing in the morning to avoid other guests being frustrated having to find an umbrella. Also the hotel has a policy, stated everywhere around the pool, that no towels to be left on sun beds before 9am or will be removed but this policy is only carried out about once a week, and people are just ignoring it. If they are going to have this policy is has to be carried out every day or take down the policy. The outlook from the pool is lovely overlooking the bay but it is let down by the pool bar music which is poor, it could be a bit more contemporary.
The Fiesta Cala Nova is on the outskirts of Es Cana which is quite a small resort. Our party would have preferred a larger resort with more going on (I do not mean we wanted San Antonio). After a week we had visited all the resort had to offer and walked to all the little bays around. To get to a larger resort was a bus ride away or on the water taxi. The water taxi is a bit more expensive than the bus but much more fun. We took the water taxi to Ibiza Town and it was calm on the way there but on the way back it was a livelier trip, we were sitting at the front of the boat and got completely soaked, great fun.
All in all we had a very good holiday; we could not fault the hotel, a bit disappointed with the resort.

Room Tip: Most rooms have full or partial sea view but you DO NO want a room on ANY FLOOR with a number betwee...

Recently returned from 14 nights at the cala nova and had a wonderful time. The bad reviews do confuse me somewhat! We are a couple in our early 30s and found this hotel to be a perfect base for our holiday. It was quite a bit cheaper than we normally spend on a holiday so our expectations werent very high but we were pleasantly suprised.
On arrival we were quickly checked in and although it was only 12 our room was ready. We had a sea view which we hadnt asked for but that was a bonus. The only negative is the cost of hiring things for your room, we hired a safe which is pretty standard in most hotels but we did without a fridge cos that cost was crazy. We didnt pay for wifi in our room as all the bars in es cana have free wifi so if you want to check in with the world thats the best place to do it. People have complained about the cost of hiring a tv remote but theres only 2 english channels and the tv isnt far from the bed so i dont know why anyone would need to use a remote to be honest!! The rooms arent the biggest but spotless and all the space we needed.
The hotel is always spotless and the cleaners are very polite and always said ola in passing. We found the food to be very good, there was always something that we liked and to be honest anyone who couldnt find something to eat would have to be very picky, in my opinion.
The hotel is a gently 5/10 minute stroll to es cana which is a lovey resort. The beach is gorgeous and we spent nearly everyday here as the water is a lot calmer than the beach next to the hotel. When we were there a few people where talking about jellyfish but that didnt put us off going in the sea, it was crystal clear and gorgeous and we only ever saw one tiny jellyfish and we just avoided it so no drama there. Es cana is quite a relaxing resort and not for clubbers but many restaurants and bars. We would recommend the sea front Mr Fish restaurant, battered sausage, chips and curry sauce, better than any english chippy!!
All in all this was probably our favourite holiday to date, not because the hotel was amazing but because for the price and the location it was just what we were looking for. The walls are pretty thin and at night there was the odd bit of noise but we were on holiday so what was there to moan about!! Some people go on holiday and look for faults we prefer to be thankful that we're on holiday and accept any problems that may arise!!

Just come back from a 14 night stay at the cala nova. Upon arrival (which was about 1am) we were not greeted and when we asked what time breakfast was we were told 'it's all on the paper'.We found this quite impolite as it is common manners just to tell somebody who has had a long day what time breakfast is. Anyway we decided to not let this bother us and made our way to our room, which was on the first floor and had a lovely (not) view of the restaurant roof and trees. Walls are so thin in the rooms that you are able to hear everything the next door rooms are saying, each night we were awoken by the people next door come back in the early hours of the morning and also the rooms above us could be heard through banging on the ceiling which literally made you jump out of your sleep. Another negative is that although the holiday was relatively cheap the hotel charge for EVERYTHING; wifi, safe, beach towels, fridge etc, even to weigh your suitcase at the end of the holiday! - you may as well go to a more expensive, nicer hotel where this is all included! The safe was 55 euros for two weeks which we felt we had to pay for as our room had an adjoining door which made us feel slightly wary. Rooms are quite small and basic but shower and air con were good.
Drinks and food by the pool were very expensive we paid 13 euros for just a hot dog, cheeseburger and 2 soft drinks - ridiculous. We ended up going to the nearby shop everyday after that which has freshly made baguettes for much cheaper. Es Canar as a resort is very small not much to see or do if you like tribute bands every night then this is the place to go. We were half board and the food was not great, mostly the same dishes every night including rice, cold meats, stews etc - not much if you're vegetarian! Often the plates in the restaurant were chipped and not cleaned properly, we even saw one waiter flick a piece of dirt of a plate without washing it properly and that really put us off eating there. We were very glad we did not go all inclusive as many guests that were all inclusive told us that it was not worth the extra (large) cost.
The pool area was nice enough if you managed to get a sunbed first thing in the morning (8am), the entertainment team were friendly and did work hard, along with the maids who cleaned the room everyday and replaced towels etc. Did not visit the beach as it was always packed out but looked ok.
Overall we were disappointed in our stay here as it was our first holiday as a couple and we were really looking forward to it, we would say this is a good hotel for families and older retired couples but not younger couples like ourselves.

Room Tip: Would probably be better to have a higher room as we heard these are quieter and have better views.

great hotel, food very good, thanks to Natalia in the restaurant very hard working young lady,Paco and Danni the entertainers were brilliant as well, all the staff were very polite and helpful, rooms smallish but very clean always lots of hot water, our only gripe as a family of 5 needing 3 rooms, got them all in a row on the 4th floor, but unfortunaltely we were over the reception and kitchen entrance and had bins and bottles being took away early in the mornings, (before 8 am)apart from this we had a lovely holiday and would go back again but next time pay a bit more and ask for sea view rooms as these are on the other side of the hotel and would also get the sun on the balcony in the day

Room Tip: sea view rooms will get the sun and be quieter

3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2013

We have just returned from Hotel Cala Nova after a one week stay. The weather was gorgeous every day. Some days started off cloudy but being an island they soon dispersed and lovely sunshine took over. The hotel appeared to be near enough full but very few children due to the return back to school. The ones that were there seemed to behave most of the time. I e-mailed the hotel before we went and requested a high, quiet room with a sea view and sunny balcony. We were highly delighted that our room on the 4th floor was everything we had asked for. We were not impressed by the prices they were charging to use the safe or for a fridge. The television was so small and years old. We do not go on holiday to watch TV but some people do watch it quite a lot and they were not impressed. We were half board, which was the only option our travel agent gave us when we booked. After our first day when we realised the hotel was remote from bars or shops we upgraded to All-Inclusive and like other people have said it was well worth it. To eat or drink out now is expensive as we found out on our first night in Es Cana. We sat at a nice sea front bar where I had 2 vodka and tonics and my husband had 3 pints of beer. The total bill was nearly £25. The drinks in the hotel were very expensive too so All-Inclusive is a better option. The food in the hotel was good at all times with plenty of choice. I am very picky but loved the pasta dishes and the salmon they provided. I did notice some of the plates had not been cleaned properly and some were badly chipped. The easiest way to bad stomachs. The hotel was clean and most of the staff friendly. Maybe a language barrier with the rest of them. Pool was not big enough for the amount of people in the hotel but there are other areas with sunbeds but umbrellas were not allowed to be used on the grassy areas which could cause a problem when the weather is really hot. The beach is not too bad apart from lots of seaweed washed up but to hire 2 beds and an umbrella for a day is £15. The evening entertainment was really not good and lots of entertain yourself like quizzes and beauty contests.
Also the hotel wine is dire. The rose is disgusting and red just about drinkable. My tipple had to be vodka and tonic which was fine. On your leaving day they do provide a courtesy room, which you have to book with reception. You can have a shower but they do not provide towels. You are allowed this room for half an hour. The luggage room is called secure but with so many people in and out and the key freely available from reception not as secure as many people would like.
All in all, we enjoyed our week of relaxation but cannot see ourselves returning to this hotel. It does have many returning guests as we found out. Also take your own towels for the pool or buy cheap ones from Es Cana. The hotel charge £3 per towel per day plus £10 deposit.

Room Tip: High rooms are the quietest.
