So looking forward to returning to the Apollo in August for the fourth time, when we will meet up with friends we have made on previous visits. The location of the Apollo is superb, with views along the coast into Skala. On a clear day and night you can see across to Zante. I'm also looking forward to seeing the rooms now they have been refurbished. It's not just the location that makes the Apollo special, it's the people who run it. The Pappas family who have always made us feel very welcome. Thanos and Alex the sons are full of fun and love having some banter. Last year we met Lana and her lovely well behaved children. Nothing was too much trouble for Lana, she looked after us very well. Any requests we had were dealt with straight away. She put on a Greek night for us which was great fun and the food was delicious. If you are looking for a haven, don't hesitate, book it you won't regret it.

Wow..can't wait to go back. Just returned after a week away with 4 other ladies, just the break we needed. Didn't know what to expect but did think the accommodation was going to be basic..(the norm for Greece)this exceeded all of my expectations. All the rooms have just been refurbished, new mattresses (just like home),showers, sofa's etc and kept beautifully clean. No extra charges for Air-Con or the safe. The poolside was very quiet just right to chill & enjoy the spectacular view. The gardens were lovely & well maintained and all perfectly clean. Lana the manager is lovely & very approachable & even gave us a lift into town for our 1st shop at the Supermarket (this is an exception rather than the rule please don't expect this). With regards to her children and the comments from the other review, it's a pity more parents aren't like her. Yes they were around but not always and I have to say they were the most disciplined children I've seen in ages with grandma helping out.No getting up early to secure a sunbed by placing a towel on it. There are more empty beds than filled, perfect. We ate a couple of nights at the bar but would suggest you go into Skala and checkout the many restaurants & what they have to offer. If you like Northern Soul, checkout the Yucca Bar! We didnt walk into Skala at all but took a taxi each time costing 5 euros. The padded sunbeds with umbrella are 4 euros each. There are some beautiful small coves very close by to the apartments..serene... Enjoy you lucky travellers who are yet to experience Kefalonia & the Apollo Apartments.

Our apartment at the Apollo was spotless, everything seemed brand new, yes fairly basic but who sits in their room all day? we had room 16, separate living room, bedroom and a large balcony with sea view. The pool area was immaculate, very chilled out relaxed atmosphere, food wise not a great deal of choice but great for snacks/burgers and everything fresh - if you want more choice then there are plenty of restaurants/taverns a 20 min walk away or Skala town approx 40min walk but 5 euro for a taxi (we never had a bad meal anywhere). The owners were very friendly, yes children were around at weekend but we hardly noticed them. Skala itself is well worth a visit if you want a chilled out holiday, if I was to go back I would book Apollo again, the location was also spot on for us.

having visited skala kefalonia for the last 17 years and once we found apollo apartments have stayed there every year. our visit may 2013 was very disappointing. christos and natasha were no longer in charge. instead were two young relatives of the owners. well what a difference this made.
it made that much difference i didnt even feel comfortable around the pool and bar. it was such a shame. everytime these two young girsl served us they could not add up the bill correctly, to be honest when you are on holiday you dont want to be arguing about the bill. in the end we never ate nor drank there unless natasha or alex were around.

this change will have devasting effect on the apollo apartments as i know many returning visitors like us have said they wont be returning in 2014.

we arent returning to apollo we have booked elsewhere in skala this year .

what a shame it was a gem of a place, anyone who visits now will never know what they are missing how good the place was with christos and natasha in charge

to the manager please return apollo to how it was it was great. why change it?

Room Tip: my personal opinion after may 2013 is to go else where however all rooms have their own little adva...

My wife and I loved it .my kids love it.its a beautiful place. thanos and his family are lovely. It's like being in heaven except for a couple of things.oh those Russians say no more.you would think they would cater to your taste but they don't and if you bring your own drinks in they sulk a little bit.the menu is limited and the price for food is a little expensive but this is not the pappos's fault they are employed by someone. The manageress Lana thinks the tv and pool room is a crèche for her children and if you dare try to watch a football match or play pool while her children are sleeping you will come face to face with her mother (not a good thing)but saying that otherwise it didn't spoil our holiday too much.we would return but will try another hotel in skala this year. Apollo apartments are a little out of town but that is no problem.its all down hill in to town if you decide to walk and 5 euros back in a cab. We've met some lovely people at the Apollo and have kept in touch since arriving home . A lot of these are repeat visitors to the Apollo this should tell you something and when we go back to skala this year we will probably go and visit one evening. The views are second to none and I think 13 out of the 15 rooms have sea views .the rooms are basic but well kept and the gardens are lovely. There are always sun loungers available . The kitchen closes at 17-00 hours but if you fancy a take away thanos is more than happy to order you one. There are loads of restaurants in skala I don't think we've a bad meal there over the three holidays we've had in skala. Car hire is cheap enough but keep to the main roads . The transfer takes around one hour depending on how many drop offs there are.be prepared to queue at the airport it's very small but once you've checked your bags in don't go through to departures go back out of the airport turn right and you'll find a couple of tavernas a couple of hundred yards away. We've found this to be more to our liking instead of sitting in the small departure lounge for a couple of hours.its also very expensive for refreshments in the airport. At the Apollo there are plenty of books to read so don't be paying ridiculous prices at the airport.the beach is a 20 min walk away but my wife and I like the one at katelios. The sand is much finer . If you like to shop there are a few shops in skala but anything serious you need to go to argostoli which is about one hours drive.here you can feed the giant turtles that seem to put a show on for you for a couple of fish. Another good thing about the Apollo is the air conditioning comes as part of the package and so does your safe. The bedding and towels are changed every 2/3 days but trying to get extra pillows can prove difficult .

My girlfriend and I were attending a beach wedding in the idyllic town of Skala, so we decided to make this our main holiday of the year. We booked 2 weeks at the Apollo apartments, following the bride and grooms recommendation from staying here the year before.

We booked through Thomas Cook and everything ran very, very smoothly. We had checked the reviews and location of the place, we had set our preferences with regards to our room, which was high floor room and a double bed (not much to ask) and we were ready to go.

When we arrived after a long days travel we were greeted by Thanos at the pool bar where we stopped to have a light late night dinner. The late night menu was small, but everything was made fresh and the Greek salad with a side of fries is exactly what we needed to get the holiday started. After that Thanos kindly showed us to our room where we set down our cases and checked out our stay for the next 14 nights. It was ground floor, the only room level with the pool, it was right next to the bar which stayed open until the last guest leaves and we had two single beds pushed together. Not in the slightest in accordance to our preferences we had set with Thomas Cook.

After speaking to Thanos, unfortunately this was the only room they currently had to offer. Which, in hindsight worked out hugely in our favor. Being able to nip in and out of our room from the pool was fantastic. No need to lug everything down to the poolside and back again. We could just get what we needed when we wanted it. Also, when it came to coming in from an evening out in Skala it was great to be able to pop in to the bar for a nightcap or two and just swoop round the corner and straight into bed.

On the first night though, we set up camp. Unpacking only the essentials as we may be moved to a more suited residence for the rest of the week. But in the morning, before breakfast, stepping onto our own little patio and then straight into the pool was heaven. The bathroom and kitchen facilities were basic but it was just what we needed for our breakfast and lunches, seeming we ate out most of the time. I don't know why people are raving about rooms 15 and 16 when at this point we were settled and didn't even want to move to a different room. It was clearly the best room they had.

A 15 minute (20 minutes on a hot day, take water!) walk away were the shops which have everything you need. The walk takes you past some beautiful views and fantastic scenery. A taxi ride could have been arranged but we found it easy enough just to walk it and at times the manageress Lana had even offered to give us a lift to the shop in her car. Which was extremely friendly of her.

After trying many of the local restaurants and bars in Skala we found that there are just enough to try a new one every evening for two weeks without running out of option and all of them are great. Some better than others, but mostly authentic Greek style food with plenty to choose from. Personally, we really enjoyed the Italian themed restaurant. The food and the cocktails were amazing and with a bit of planning you can even catch the happy hour.

Our Rep Kerry was as good as can get. She was friendly, funny and really very helpful. She made our holiday even more enjoyable than it already was with her recommendations and helpful tips and tricks of getting the most out of Skala and Kefalonia. A credit to the company.

Lana, her mother who occasionally helps out in the kitchen and Thanos run the place extremely well. It seemed very relaxed, laid back and it really reflected in the feel and the atmosphere of the place. Overall, we had a stunning time with no worries over sunbed availability, with fantastic hosts and the occasional fun themed evening to join in if you like, lots of friendly and talkative guests who we got to know really well and an absolutely idyllic setting.

I would recommend Apollo Apartments to anyone, young or old, couple or family. It is a great place to stay.

Room Tip: The one room next to the bar on ground level is best!
