“fabulous hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 28, 2013

Just returned from a week at this hotel. It was me and my wife's fifth visit to Kefalonia but the first to this hotel. We had room 220 in block Terpsichore we had a great view of the pool and sea beyond (the accommodation is village style with individual blocks each named after one of the 9 muses). All the staff are very friendly and cannot do enough for you. Food is extremely good, breakfast consists of fruit, yoghurt, pastries, meat and cheese as well as cooked options. We were half board and ate 4 times in the Avra restaurant overlooking the sea. There is a wide choice on the menu. In addition we had lunch on a number of occasions. The hotel is spotlessly clean, the rooms are very comfortable with the most comfortable beds we have ever slept in in Greece. Our room had a shower cabinet with a good water pressure and constantly hot water. The room also has a
fridge, tea and coffee making facilities and a safe which is €18 per week which unless you return
the key to reception within 24 hours, is automatically charged to your room. The room also has
free air on and a balcony with table and chairs. I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough. My only criticism is the once a week Greek night. They brought in these Greek dancers who were pretty abysmal and although they advertise Greek food, it is the same menu as the rest of the weekwhich was a little dissapointing. The evening could be really good with some special food and better calibre of entertainment.
We don't normally return to a hotel but will return here without question.
One tip, take your own beach towels as these are not provided by the hotel, there are 2 pools one behind reception has padded sunbeds and one at the back of the hotel which is nice and quiet.

Room Tip: Get room 219 or 220 for a great pool and sea view.

Just returned from holiday. From the moment we arrived we knew that we could relax here. Kefalonia is spotless, relaxing and has the most gentle atmosphere. The hotel is in an ideal spot, a short walk away from the centre of Skala and just across the road from the crystal clear sea and pebble beach. Excellent towel art! Frest flowers from the garden in our room every day.
If you want loud music, don't come here. Staff are polite, welcoming and efficient. We will be back. Skala is lovely, lots of lovely resturants, good quality food and reasonable prices.
Worst thing is the airport on your return journey! Small and have to stand outside until your flight is called. Also very expensive in the airport.

what can I say nothing bad that's for sure!!! in fact booked for next year already! the hotel is spotless the staff are amazing especially Athina who works non stop but always with a welcoming smile she is a treasure !!!
the food is very good but we stayed B&B as there are so many beautiful places to eat.
the hotel is straight onto the beach and although near the town very peaceful. There is a little chapel in the grounds where there is usually a wedding whilst you are there.
there are greek dancing nights and Hollis is areally good singer and gets everyone up.
altogether an amazing holiday and thankyou to Captain Vangelis and his team for excellent boat trips to Ithika and Fiskardo. What a holiday

Room Tip: we liked the rooms at the back near the little pool and the chapel but you won,t get a bad room here

My wife and I stayed at this hotel for a 10 day holiday in mid May this year but due to unplanned commitments, I have only just got round to writing this review now (Sept 2013).
The hotel itself is located across a quiet road from the shingle beach (sore on the feet) and is set out in a village type configuration, a bit like the village in Wales where ''The Prisoner'' series was filmed for telly in the 1960s. The rooms were very clean, moderately spacious and followed the standard hotel format. No surprises or disappointments there. We were fortunate enough to be located in the high block next to the upper pool which we found quiet, tranquil and convenient although the whole complex was laid back and relaxed at this time of year.
I must point out that the staff at this establishment are amongst the most pleasant, co operative and eager to please that I have ever encountered. They were always available and all of them displayed a willingness to ensure the guests were looked after. Nine out of nine for the staff!!!
The breakfast was consistent, if consistently plain. To my knowledge nobody complained about the lack of choice but for an extra 3.50 euros (?) you could get a full English anyway (odd). I don't take breakfast at home anyway.
Highlights - rent a car and go to Fiskardo at the northern tip of the island. Taking the road up through the central spine of kefalonia, you cannot fail to be impressed by the stunning scenery of Myrtos beach and Assos village. Please drive carefully on the narrow mountain roads, they are not for the faint hearted.
Also, you must take the boat trip to the island of Ithaca offered by Captain Vangelis at the roadside booth next to the hotel. the trip takes in the capital town, Vathi, and the staggeringly picturesque little village of Kioni....worth every penny just for that.
Skala town is OK and there are enough eateries offering good food at reasonable prices to keep the most discerning holidaymaker happy.
Lowlights - a couple of the islands historic monuments are a bit disappointing, I will allow you to decide which ones I mean.
Conclusion - An excellent holiday, we recommend this Island, the resort and this hotel highly.

Room Tip: No pool view in upper rooms

Can't speak highly enough of this hotel, situated opposite the beach. Very comfortable. Excellent staff and pleasant atmosphere. Full of lots of little surprises like, when they clean the room, they leave the towels in an artistic pose on the bed. Nice to come back to and it made us laugh. The waiting staff are particularly good; friendly without being OTT and all of them were passionate about the customer. The owners are constantly on site to oversee things. Being out of the school holidays, there were mainly couples. Don't know what it would be like during the school holidays.

Room Tip: Our room overlooked the pool and had a sea view. That's the one to go for....but not before us p...

We booked a week at the 9 Muses hotel from 3rd-10th September 2013 for the first time. We were a group/wedding party, with age ranges from 5 to 60+. We did not have our wedding at the hotel as we had booked independently with another company, but there is a pretty chapel on site if you wish to get married at the hotel. 9 Muses was a great hotel for everyone, fantastic location, a stones throw away from the beach and short walk away from the main town. 9 Muses was a very clean, friendly hotel, the staff were very helpful. The cleaners worked very hard and everyday we had our bath towels made into animals of some description in our rooms. The gardeners where working in the early hours of the morning, to ensure the grounds where well kept and flowers watered. The hotel is beautifully laid out, apartment blocks, with lovely arches and draping flower walkways. There are two pools, one at the back of the hotel is very quiet and the larger one is more popular. The hotel was very peaceful and quiet and suitable for all ages. The Avra restaurant provided a hearty breakfast daily, including croissant, muffins, fresh fruit, cooked breakfast, cereals etc. We sampled some of the other restaurants in Skala for our evening meal, however returned on several occasions to the Avra restaurant as the food was so good and staff friendly and welcoming. Amanda who works in the Bar, was just the best!!!! She made the best cocktails i have ever tasted, she was a lovely warm and friendly lady, had some lovely chats with her and was a pleasure to return to her bar nightly for a strawberry daiquiri fix. I would not hesitate to return to this hotel or recommend to others.

We have just returned from the 9 Muses having previously stayed there 4 years ago. Nothing has changed apart from the addition of a new bar and restaurant and we had the most wonderful time. What we did experience this time though was that there were more "upper class" people staying aswell who think it is beneath them to acknowledge you as they walk past or even sit next to you. What these "uppity people" fail to remember is that we "working class" people have paid the same money to stay at the 9 Muses (which isn't cheap) as they have and to be honest we have probably worked harder to be able to afford it in the first place. I'm sure these people know who they are....................

We took two friends with us and we had a a great time down on the beach aswell as being round the Vesta Bar run by Manolis in the evenings. We never stoppled laughing and Manos loved to join in aswell.

The hotel breakfast is simple and lovely. It is buffet style and consists of yoghurt, fruit, toast, cake, ham, cheeses, tomatoes, bacon, sausage, mushrooms and poached eggs. Tea and coffee is served at your table by two waitresses one being the beautiful Athina, who must be the politest lady we have ever met.

We did eat in the restaurant during our stay and the food was equally as good as the local tavernas. Our favourites though were the Makelitos Family Restaurant and Gourgoris. It is advisable to book the latter though because it is so small. We nicknamed this the Tiny Taverna and has the most fabulous Kefalonia Meat Pie which is only served on a Tuesday.

Our favourite bar was the Akri Bar offering fabulous sea views at the top of the hill. This bar is probably missed by a lot of people as it is not in the centre of Skala. They played chill out music and the staff were great. The young waitress came to speak to us all the time and it was sad saying our goodbyes on the last evening as we felt we were leaving a friend behind.

Thank you 9 Muses for yet another memorable holiday on your beautiful island. We shall return.
