Kefalonia is a beautiful island and we spent two lovely weeks there, the only thing that spoiled our holiday was the hotel. I cannot say it was horrible but some things were unbelievable. Mostly it's about hygiene. Wouldn't reccomend tauching a shower curtain - filthy!!! Also there were dump marks all over the bathroom and the smell wasn't great either. Our room was never properly cleaned, even before our arrival. Dust was everywhere, all mirrors were grimey, towels (changed only twice a week), even though fresh, had some irremovable stains. There were some wires sticking out from behind the wardrobe. Breakfast was the same every single day with a very limited choice so you end up having the same for as long as you stay unless you choose to eat out. And it wasn't traditional greek breakfast either. If you want eggs any other than hard boiled you have to pay extra! But you have no choice if you reaaly fancy eggs and discover that the boiled ones are actually not fresh (it happened more than often). Fruit was also not always fresh. The dining area was not pleasant, you could eat outside but wasps were everywhere. Last day there was no staff at breakfast at all, the food quickly run out and we ended up just having tea!!! Or perhaps it's good as after the owner's mother left, there was just one person serving breakfast and it was the same person who cleaned rooms which is fine but the disgusting bit is that she would do these two things without even changing her clothes and wore them throughout the full 2 weeks. Maybe I am a little sensitive but surely you don't clean and serve food to guests wearing the same sweaty t-shirt and tracksuits especially when it's that hot??? We communicated our concerns to the rep but nothing has been done. This hotel has a marque of excellence award - don't believe a word of your Thomas Cook adviser; this is simply not true. Apart from a great location and fantastic pool, everything else was below average. And one more thing that we personally found very sad - they have this old dog on a chain behind their house desparately seeking attention and company but getting none. It just sits there all alone all day looking out for people. And at night it cries of desperation and lonliness. Kefalonia and Skala are beautiful but if you choose to go to Zephyros, you are overpaying, this hotel should not have 3 stars.
