“nice hotel”

Apostolata Island Resort & Spa

Jul 10, 2008

we have just returned from our holiday at the apostolate and on the whole we had an ok time.
we stayed in a superior seaview room which was lovely very modern and most comfortaable. The public areas of the hotel were very trendy and well kept.
We stayed all inclusive which was a let down. It is only local drinks which were'nt to my taste, and although the pool bar had an extensive snack menu all inclusive guests could only have sandwhiches pizza and chips. The food in the buffet was ok, it would have been nice to see more Greek dishes though. What bugged me was people feeding cats in the restaurant which is totally disgusting and did put me off my food. Especially when guests where feeding the cats and then heading back to the buffet without washing their hands. To be fair the waiters tried to shoo the cats away.
The courtesy bus to skala finshes at 5,30 pm so if you do go into skala inthe evening you have to get a taxi which is 6 euro one way. by the way there are only 8 taxis for the whole of the south so if you want to book one for the airport do it well in advance. ( airport 45 euro one way)
There is very little entertainment going on in the hotel during the evening, so be prepared for a very quiet holiday.
As for the steps there are too many and in that heat they are evil. i have asthma and i found them a struggle. my boyfriend is very fit and even he found them a strain in the heat.
on the whole a great hotel, food nothing bad but nothing to write home about, service could be better.

Me and my husband went for a week on the 29th June to celebrate my 40th Birthday. So many hotels look marvellous in the brochures but when you get there you are disappointed. This was absolutely spot on. The hotel was the best we had ever stayed in and was spotless. ALL staff were excellent and very friendly. The rooms were cleaned every day with clean towels put in the bathrooms every day. The food was excellent, there wasn't a meal we did not enjoy.

The only bad points I could find were the steps to the pool especially with the weather in the mid to late 30's. Sometimes it was tough going but you could get a ride back up to the reception area if you struggled with the steps. The other bad point was lack of entertainment but that seemed to be improving towards the end of the week when a singer came in one evening. Not everyone's cup of tea though.

We went all inclusive and it was explained to us from day one what to do with regards to obtaining food and drink so not sure why previous reviews say there was confusion. I would suggest all inclusive because the drinks at the bar were quite expensive.

The bus to Skala and Poros was really good and you could get a timetable from reception not problem.

We had a brilliant time and met some really nice people and I can't think of a better way of spending my 40th Birthday. It will be something I will always remember.

“The good and the bad”

Apostolata Island Resort & Spa

Jul 3, 2008

I booked direct through Olympic Holidays, half-board. I went alone and the hotel had upgraded me to a larger, sea-facing twin room for sole use. The hotel decor is modern and luxurious. The room was huge.

The brochure only mentioned steps down to the pool but not how many - actually 125 from my room (no. 506). The lifts only go as far as the dining terrace. The pool area is fantastic and enough room for everyone even though the hotel was full. This is because a lot of people hire cars and go out for the day. I relied on the courtesy bus into Scala 4 times a day.

The food is all self-service and very good quality and choice.

That's the good. Now the bad...

Half-way through my week's holiday my room flooded with foul-smelling water coming up through the floor drains in the bathroom (along with other rooms along my corridor). I rang reception and about 20 mins later 2 men came up to investigate (no apology from them). I insisted that someone came and cleaned up thoroughly. Luckily I was in the room and had nothing on the floor. I went to dinner. When I returned the room had been cleaned up. However when I finally managed to speak to a manager, he was reluctant to apologise and blamed people for putting paper down the toilets. As a frequent visitor to Greece, I don't do this as there are usually signs on bathrooms telling you to put paper in the bins. However, there were no such signs in this hotel and no mention in the hotel's information brochure, nor had the rep mentioned it.

This incident plus the attitude of the staff rather spoiled an otherwise nice holiday. I certainly would not go back!

Have just returned from the Apostolata after a one week break with a friend, on a last minute all inclusive holiday travelling with Olympic Holidays. Had a great time.
The hotel is going through a refurbishment programme this season and next year will operate as a 5 star property as opposed to this years 4 star, no doubt with prices to match!
This means that this year the accomodation varies tremendously and they are operating all inclusive and half board alongside each other which some of the all inclusive guests felt meant they were treated less well by staff. We didn't find this an issue.
Some problems with communication which meant all inclusives weren't sure where they could eat and drink. For example where snacks could be obtained. The thing to do here is to ask at the bar in the evening and you can have what you want but it's not very clear.
Lovely main areas with stylish funishings. Fantastic pool with no problems getting a sunbed. Beautiful views from the restaurant and terrace. Wide choice of food in the main restaurant and generally good staff. The spa is now open but very expensive. The Manager was very helpful and managed to sort out some minor problems we had and also arranged for us to view some of the new accomodation coming on stream which was amazing.
Finally we met some lovely fellow guests who made all the difference to the holiday. Thanks guys!

Myself and my boyfriend have just returned from a week at the Apostolata and we were really happy with it. I urge you not to listen to the negative reviews, I am a notoriously fussy traveller as I travel a lot through my work, but the Apostolata really exceeded my expectations. For a Greek destination, the rooms were really spacious and modern, with lovely bathrooms and the hotel overall was finished to a high standard - the pool area is especially gorgeous and the views from everywhere are just breathtaking. For the cynics out there, of course there are a few improvements that could be made as you can't compare a resort here with a 5 star in London, but the only things of note are that the food in the evenings can be a bit repetitive and average, and there's not much on offer in the way of entertainment. The only other thing really is that you're not in Scala town centre, but I quite liked being in a more secluded location - plus the hotel puts on a free shuttle bus to town anyway. Really good value if you choose all inclusive, they definitely aren't stingy on their alcohol measures and cocktails are pretty good too! I would definitely recommend the Apostolata to all and think once the spa is complete it will be even better. Try it!
